kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2019 Posted September 13, 2019 Frazier yucking it up with Belinger at first down 7-1.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2019 Author Posted September 13, 2019 So three tack-on runs after two were out and nobody on.That's what that 5th inning was like in Chicago today, except more than twice as long and producing seven runs with hit after hit (and some bad defense mixed in) to the point where you weren't sure if it was ever going to end.
LWFS Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2019 Posted September 13, 2019 People make a lot of the Dodgers' talent, and they do have a lot of it.But they've just plain outplayed us tonight-- hitting against the shift, running hard, working deep into counts-- too.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 13, 2019 Posted September 13, 2019 I'm feeling good about Alonso pinch-hitting here.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 13, 2019 Posted September 13, 2019 Cool. A four-pitch walk. There isn't a new rule that says Lowrie has to bat here, right? They can still send up Nimmo, right?
LWFS Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2019 Posted September 13, 2019 Roberts looked like he was about to leave Kershaw in until Lowrie was announced. If I were Callaway, I might have left walky-walky Nimmo in to PH.
LWFS Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2019 Posted September 13, 2019 Rosario looks like he's playing defense up there.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2019 Posted September 13, 2019 If Diaz doesn't pitch in this game, we know he floating in the sewer deep beneath the Empire State Building.Later
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 13, 2019 Posted September 13, 2019 Maybe they should have run for Alonso. On the other hand, the throw was so good that maybe it's good they didn't. They might have sent Matz and seen him cut down.
LWFS Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2019 Posted September 13, 2019 Do you maneuver to keep Alonso in the game at this point?
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2019 Posted September 13, 2019 Might not have necessarily, but with Davis making the last out, sure.
LWFS Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2019 Posted September 13, 2019 I don't know if these bullpen dudes are afraid of not being able to escape in time ICOE, or whether they just don't want to climb too many flights en route to work, but outside of Familia, nobody wants off the ESB ground floor.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2019 Posted September 13, 2019 I understand we are unlikely to win, but still. If you are unable to take a free hit, Robinson Cano, then you need to take bunting practice every single day until you learn.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 13, 2019 Posted September 13, 2019 That, of course, goes to everybody on the team. And everybody in the minor league system. An everybody that wants to be on the team. And everybody that wants to be in the minor league system.
LWFS Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2019 Posted September 13, 2019 AND Bellinger's sprinting in the ninth on a dribbler when they're up 9-2, because he's got a shot at a hit.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 13, 2019 Posted September 13, 2019 AND Todd swings 2-0 down seven in the bottom of the ninth. He should have to walk home after that.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2019 Author Posted September 13, 2019 If I were the replay umps I'd have turned down that challenge even if the evidence showed otherwise, just to reward Bellinger for the hustle and to punish Lockett for his laziness.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2019 Author Posted September 13, 2019 (edited) And yet another 3-1/2 hour game in a season full of them. Edited September 13, 2019 by Guest

Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 Mets did everything wrong from the start in this game, including having lines at the entrance so congested and slow that me and thousands of others missed the first 2.5 innings. More people were outside than in.I have little sympathy for those who show up too late to get in on time, and due to meeting up with a bunch of folks all arriving separately got a later start than I would have intended (Wifey Bucket + Lunchpail had separate tix and they went in ahead of us) but getting in line at 6:50 for a 7:10 game ought to be enough for a competent and adequately staffed organization to get us through even on amateur night. Instead it took an hour. An hour! They gave out "free shirts" at the entrance but not the ones advertised, they ran out of those. The game was the same, they were just unprepared for and overwhelmed by the visitors.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 That was my experience as well. And it is completely fixable: hire enough people and get enough security screening points set up to move people in faster. But the Mets can't be bothered.Nevermind the fact that the security theater is so offensively ineffective. And that having thousands of fans stuck outside in those lines creates an exponentially greater safety risk.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 there has to be a more effective way to let the Mets know how unacceptable this is than mad-tweeting them
cal sharpie Old-Timey Member Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 Got in on time entering in the right field entrance but lotta folks came in in the 3rd or 4th inning. It was kinda cold so happy for the crappy t-shirt. Game was terrible and too many Dodger fans. Mariska Hargetay came out to throw a first pitch and then some corporate guy came out to also throw a first pitch (second pitch?). Mariska's was much better thrown.
