If it's any consolation, McNeil seems hopeful that this is not season ending.

McNeil was hurt while trying to beat out a grounder in a 5-3 loss to the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday.

McNeil said he felt "a little snag" in his left hamstring as he approached first base. He slammed down his helmet after crossing the bag in obvious frustration and after a brief delay walked gingerly back to the Mets dugout, accompanied by a trainer.

"It didn't feel great, but I don't think it's terrible," McNeil said. "We'll see what it feels like in the morning."

An MRI was scheduled for Wednesday in Atlanta to determine the extent of the injury.

McNeil said he hopes it's not serious enough to send him to the injured list.

"I didn't feel it pop," he said. "Just a little snag. Nothing crazy."

One of the National League's top hitters, McNeil is batting .332, and he made the All-Star Game for the first time. He has 15 homers and 55 RBIs out of the leadoff spot, helping spark the Mets on a run of 15 wins in 18 games.

"The team is playing well," he said. "I just want to contribute. Hopefully, this is something real short and I can get right back on the field."

A few things to unfold. Not "popping" is big deal I guess. Once it pops it's 6 weeks minimum. So maybe there's some hope there. Also, this is the first time I can remember that a player wasn't flown back to NY for the MRI. I wonder if the idea is that they keep him in Atlanta so maybe he can play the finale? This seems like a bad idea if that's the case.

This really sucks. Jeff was having a magnificent year.

Hopefully good new coming soon.

He's basically an irreplaceable cog in SHaMy2019-land.

According to some, IL is likely. It's not official yet but probably a good idea.

This hurts the team in the infield and the outfield.

Neither Nimmo nor Lowrie have begun rehab games. I'm having sympathy pains in my hamstring.

Anthony DiComo @AnthonyDiComo

Source: Jeff McNeil's MRI revealed only a mild left hamstring strain. The expectation is he will be able to return the Mets in 10 days.

Mostly good news, I think.

Cano to start a rehab stint soon. Not sure how many more games the minor leaguers even have at this point. Maybe the Mets will still be in the hunt when Cano gets back.

Regular season minor league ball ends on Monday.

Yikes that's a short rehab stint. At least I assumed "rehab stint" meant time on the farm. I'm assuming a lot.
