These are two nearly flawless covers. Both focus on the eyes and expressions. Went with Doc, even though it's a spring training photo in a batting practice jersey, because I like the idea you are getting the perspective of a batter -- putting you in the action.

Their qualities are very similar. Eerily so.



If they weren't wearing the same insignia on their hats, the two shots could be two different perspectives of the same moment.

My takeaway from the TIME cover is that the United States is deploying Gooden against Gaddafi. And Gaddafi is fucked.

I voted Darryl, it's such a good photo, but I love the Doc cover, too. The red border bugs me on the TIME cover, but it also makes it seem like TIME wasn't bending to appeal to the sports world. Doc and the orange and blue just forced their way onto it.
