DET (19‑30) Spencer Turnbull (RHP, 2-3, 2.68)

NYM (25‑26) Zack Wheeler (RHP, 3-3, 4.74)

Wheeler looks great in the first, but then a jam job leads to an opposite-field homerun.

Gary instantly calls bullshit on the ball.

Interesting that they went to Ramos for a DGAaNG, even a DGAaNG in which he caught 11. It pretty much announces by implication that Nido-as-deGrom's personal catcher is a thing.

Maybe this should have been the game to debut J.D. Davis at catcher.

Smith a little out of practice at thinking through what to do with purposely dropped bunts.

Smith's charm wears off, as he rips the cover off the ball, pulling it to the right. Into the shift for two outs.

Left side was left wide open. LEARN YOUR OWN LESSON, METS.

You knew this was going to be the case because Mickey was so intent on denying it as recently as last week.

Once in a while human fallibility calling balls and strikes is a good thing.

Did anybody else think Kirk Gibson sounded medicated? It's hard to believe he's a broadcaster with those cadences.

I'm sorry to hear that. It makes sense, sadly. Gibson was a football player first and second. An All-American. He only played a single year of college baseball at the suggestion of his football coach, and he killed it.

And, as anybody who saw him recalls, he played baseball like a football player, treating it as a full-contact sport. Does this not look like a footballer accidentally dropped onto a baseball diamond?:

His comments on the 1984 Tigers were interesting. They won so often that they became scared of losing. 1986 Met Keith Hernandez could relate.
