G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 (edited) The thread for quick transaction-type updates.Gavin Cecchini DFA'd, off the 40-man roster to make room for Justin Wilson. Edited January 28, 2019 by Guest
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 This is crushing for the Cecchini Fan Club.Surprised he got the axe instead of like Tim Peterson or someone like that.I still think he can hit someday. Would have been good if he didn't completely disappear after that foot injury last year.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2019 Author Posted January 28, 2019 Nobody in the BVW administration, save perhaps for Ricco, had anything to do with drafting or developing him, so I imagine the sense of attachment the previous regime may have had to a first-round draft pick wasn't there. I don't know how much of a factor something like that is, but I would guess that every little bit helps a player on the bubble.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 The glut of infielders probably made this inevitable. It would take an unpleasant number of injuries to create an opening for Cecchini at this point, and I don't see it or even want to see it happening. I'd feel bad, but I think a waiver claim is in his best interests.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 They saved Eric Hanhold? I know some turnover is inevitable but it's almost as though Brodie Von Whathaveyoudoneformelately is making a show of whacking Sandy's guys.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2019 Author Posted January 28, 2019 It has been suggested by a Twitterite who has thought about it that Mets likely have a trade lined up for Cecchini.

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2019 Posted January 28, 2019 Read some of the middle relievers we held onto. Cutting Cecchini is an unforced error.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 6, 2019 Posted February 6, 2019 Wow. Burnett's appeared in 380 MLB games, but only 26 since 2012.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 Burnett, Avilan or Zamora as 2nd lefty in the pen? or somebody else?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 Hector Santiago joins that field as well, with Ryan O'Rourke and David Roseboom on the periphery.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 Danny Espinosa, former National, to a minor league deal with a major league invite (do they use Evite?) https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/e/espinda01.shtmlhttps://www.baseball-reference.com/players/e/espinda01.shtml
