Between the reports that Dansby Swanson (still sounds like he should be in a polo lineup rather than a baseball one) isn't progressing in his rehab very quickly combined with the less than stellar

defensive efforts they've been getting (and we've been seeing) at the 6-spot from Charlie Culberson and Johan Camargo, I suppose this isn't a surprise. Hech can't hit like those two but he also

doesn't treat grounders as if he's a human pin-ball bumper either.

Adeiny Hechavarria made a highlight reel play to end Atlanta's win over the Marlins tonight, the bastard.

Blue Jays have DFA'd Neil Ramirez. Don't everybody rush to text his agent at once.

The 2019 European Baseball Cup tourney is currently underway in Germany.

My German friend the Mets fan tells me that one-time Mets uber-prospect Fernando Martinez is the DH for the Spanish team.

The Padres have fired 2009 Met Andy Green and replaced him on an interim basis with 2010 Met Rod Barajas.

Look for 2011 Met Miguel Batista to get the permanent job.

Howie Rose mentioned (former NYM) Moises Alou as part of the conversation.

Said he's also been talked about as a future GM somewhere.

I don't recall hearing his name in the recent past when jobs have come up.

Mike Puma reports Mets management that came along last fall isn't bringing Edgardo Alfonzo back as Cyclones manager, opting for “their own people,” whatever the fuck that means after Fonzie, as Metsie a Met as has ever been, certainly in the past quarter-century, managed Brooklyn to its first outright NY-Penn title.

(No coda like, “instead you're coming to the big club!” attached.)

It should. He's a good dude, has been loyal as hell, and seems to be damn good at the gig. Firing employees like that for the sake of clearing-the-decks/flexing is the red-flaggiest of bad-manager red flags..

Fonzie staying as a club ambassador, which is what he was doing before managing.

Brian Schneider to catch first pitch of World Series Game Three in honor of his several appearances catching Mets pitchers at Nationals Park.

At least I've decided that's why.

Break out the Schneider Schardonnay.

This guy was such a disappointment as a Met. Convinced he signed here only because he believed he could get rich making commercials.

Spotted on field prior to Game Four of 2019 WS: former Mets manager and coach Frank Howard, in a Nats jersey, sharing a word with one of the Mets he coached, Tim Bogar.

I was just thinking of Hondo in the last few days.

- in part because I wondered whether or not he was still around (I had yet to look it up)

- also because, if still around, whether the Nats would acknowledge him during this WS (nice job by them for doing so)

- and finally because he's mentioned in Ron Darling's latest book which I've just about finished up (let's just say that big Frank doesn't come off all that well in it)
