I saw him tell Steve Gelbs that there are eleven areas that he wants to concentrate on. I was curious to hear a list of all eleven, but Steve didn't even ask him to name one of them.

Apparently really good in the scouting and development departments, but as GM, got pretty fleeced trading off the players he developed.

I'm not sure how much of it was him taking the fall for a good team seemingly slumping all at once, but the players appeared to have issues with him.

And they apparently didn't end a whole lot better with the Red Sox either:

Now a huge part of that was the one-year void the Red Sox had at DH. But that's two straight seasons where a team with a lineup full of big names couldn't move on from him fast enough.
