Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 yikes, what a bunch of stinkers to start things off.
Guest 41Forever Guests Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 I liked Bruce Glee, but I don't think anything from this group will survive until the next round.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 When nothing Mets positive is really good enough, I always go for insulting Larry. He'll have to do until I get a chance to vote for one insulting Jeter.Later

Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 I'll vote later, that Nellie-esque sports jacket with the money in pocket iskinda ametmusing...
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 These covers were laughable at the time, and even more so in hindsight. Struggling to even select one.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 5, 2018 Author Posted November 5, 2018 Only four of the covers picture a player in a Mets uniform. For what it's worth, Daphne and Erika like BRUCE GLEE. Me, I voted for BRUCE ENCORE and THUMB ON DOWN.

I have a hard time believing that the Post was serious with that cover. I wouldn't describe the reaction to Bruce as anything close to "Glee". But I guess it's harder to pun "Mild Dissatisfaction".Joy in Metville? Obviously the headline writer didn't consult the CPF reaction poll (that I searched for but couldn't find. But I think the reaction was tepid at best.)

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 From January 2018: Welcome Back Jay Bruce, The Trade Was Your Ticket OutHey, look at what you wrote way back then:"Joy in Metsville" is a bit of an overstatement. The Mets could have done more, but they also could have done less, so I'm pleased but not thrilled.Looking back over the thread, the reactions were a bit more positive then I thought. I guess I projected my "bleh" feelings on everyone else. But it was a mixed back. And certainly nothing close to "Glee".
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 WHO'S ON DECK? isn't much in the way of content (it must've been a slow news day), but it's easily the top out there in terms of composition.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 Went with BUT WAIT, GO TO HALL and THUMB ON DOWN...It's officially off-season.

Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 Alderson as Monty Hall is hilarious. Everything else was depressing. This is not going to be a fun Derby.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 Funny, I immediately thought of Lindsey Nelson but of course it's moreMonte. Monte Nelson, ladies and gentlemen...

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted November 5, 2018 Posted November 5, 2018 THUMB ON DOWN for best pun; I FEEL YOUR PAIN for best elbow to the ribs of the subject; GO TO HALL, LARRY! for best historical awareness.I didn't become the biggest Todd Frazier fan going in the course of the season, but I am happy to be reminded how quickly all that thumbs-down stuff faded, perhaps because the Salt 'n' Pepper thing briefly took off.
