bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2018 Posted September 10, 2018 Happy Jacob deGrom Day (again)! The Marlins send assassin Jose Urena (5-12, 4.41, 1.205) to the mound. Urena has had two very good outings in his last 3 appearances: 1 ER, 7 IP v PHI and a complete game at WSH, 9 IP, 1 ER, 2 H. He pitched against the Mets on 8/10 (5 1/3 ER, 4 H) and 4/9 (5 IP, 3 ER). Facing Urena, Jay Bruce is 5 for 15 with 2 HR, Conforto is 5 for 13, Wilmer and Nimmo have 1 HR each.Jacob pitched against MIA on 6/30, giving up an unfathomable 3 ER in 6 IP (a 6-3 loss), on 5/23, giving up a fathomable 0 ER in 7 IP (a 2-1 loss), and 4/10, giving up an unfathomable 4 ER in 6 IP (a 8-6 win). Against Jake, Brian Anderson has 1 HR (3 for 7), Starlin Castro is 7 for 18 and Derek Dietrick has struck out 12 times in 23 ABs. (I wrote this on Sunday and it's still applicable on Tuesday.)538 gives the Mets a 68% chance of winning this game: https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2018-mlb-predictions/games/While I'm here, if you want to make a fantasy trade, don't say "I'm just trying to help you out." No you're not, you're trying to help yourself and possibly me. The best deals are when both sides are happy but don't act like you're only being altruistic. I'm in the hunt and a team that is way out of it offered me many things for deGrom. I considered it (although it would be painful) but couldn't find enough coming to me to make up for losing the best pitcher in baseball. The other guy said to me yesterday "I just wanted to help you win." Thanks but that's not why you're making the trade.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2018 Posted September 11, 2018 Maybe somebody will take the field in a first responder hat. And instantly become my favorite Met.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 11, 2018 Posted September 11, 2018 Smitty at first. Let's go, Mets.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2018 Posted September 11, 2018 Maybe I’m naive. But I find it hard to believe that a ML veteran can put on the first responder hats during the pregame then take it off for the game. I feel like if I were a Met, there is no way I would let that go.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 11, 2018 Posted September 11, 2018 Biting the hand that feeds you is a game that you imagine any competitor should be willing to do, but the money is hewj enough that the conservative choice is the way folks go almost every time. It makes Colin Kaepernick's choice even more remarkable.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 12, 2018 Posted September 12, 2018 Who was on base for the Piazza post-9/11 homerun?I'll go off book and guess Matt Lawton.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2018 Posted September 12, 2018 So deGrom gives up three hits in seven innings ... all in a row.

ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2018 Posted September 12, 2018 This is pathetic effort tonight. An active David Wright would likely tear into this bunch tonight.Failing that, the spread is closed

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2018 Posted September 12, 2018 Just embarrassing. I want to be careful about making this seem like a “It’s weird how the Mets don’t score for deGrom” thing. Yes. They don’t score for him at historic levels. But they suck offensively overall. Even with this recent surge they are 24th OPS. They suck plenty for other pitchers too.
