Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 19, 2018 Posted August 19, 2018 Oh sure, and the only black guy in the whole commercial is the one who gets thrown out of the game. Why they gotta do that to a brother?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 19, 2018 Author Posted August 19, 2018 I just love the great form everybody shows. US commercials featuring baseball always seem to feature actors who've never touched a bat before directed by somebody who's never seen a game. There's a Nathan's ad out there that I weep over that plays during the Mets' MLB.TV broadcasts.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted August 19, 2018 Posted August 19, 2018 One of the commentators notes that there is a sign that says "DOUBLEDAY" at 1:50 and another points out that the "black guy" is Warren Cromartie (1:21).https://www.adweek.com/creativity/toyota-japan-goes-deep-one-most-delightful-baseball-ads-long-time-164003/
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 19, 2018 Posted August 19, 2018 (edited) That makes sense then seeing as how Cromartie played in Japan for a long time and was very popular there.A Miami native, the USA is probably third in line for Cro's popularity behind (in one order or another) Japan and Canada given his nine seasons* with the Expos.* plus two more with 'Quebec' when they were a AA affiliate of the Expos Edited August 19, 2018 by Guest
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 20, 2018 Author Posted August 20, 2018 Cro managed an all-Japanese, all-traveling team in the indy, US-based Golden Baseball League.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2018 Posted August 20, 2018 I'm still not 100% sure if it's for a specific model (The Toyota G's?) or a feature, but it's awesome.A Japan trip that includes baseball is absolutely on my bucket list. "You Gotta Have Wa" is one of the best baseball/culture books I've ever read.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 20, 2018 Author Posted August 20, 2018 Shortly after You've Gotta Have Wa, Robert Whiting ended up co-writing Warren Cromartie's memoir.

Maybe some day.
