Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 Anibal Sanchez vs Jacob deGrom. I mean, I care, but, fuck, this post All Star break dip is hurting my feelings now.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 Braves RH Anibal Sanchez (5-3, 3.00) Mets RH Jacob deGrom (5-6, 1.82)DeGrom sat at 4-0 on May 18, but is 1-6 in his past 12 outings despite a 1.86 ERA and a .204/.254/.313 opponents slash line in that span. The 30-year-old owns a 0.98 WHIP with only 32 walks and 164 strikeouts across 138 1/3 innings. DeGrom is 5-4 with a 1.80 ERA in 15 career starts against the Braves, but is 0-1 in four starts this season despite allowing two earned runs in 25 innings. -- gracenote
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 I saw something somewhere that mentioned deGrom as a "leading Cy Young" candidate. I don't imagine we've ever had a Cy Young winner (except perhaps for a reliever?) who had a losing won-lost record, but I suppose that now that wins and losses are no longer regarded as accurate measures, such a thing may be possible. But it still seems like an unlikely thing to happen.

Boy, I've seen pitchers with bad luck, but this is bordering on a criminal lack of support. I'm betting this game will be 0-0 in the sixth and they'll find a way to blow it.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 Sounds like a reasonable bet to me.

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 We actually did win 2, but they gave us 4! on face value is like a $500 gift!
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 That's pretty cool, maybe your 'bucket luck will rub off on the bats.

Maybe they'll send Justine Ward over to talk to you.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 Who is this Justine? Has she replaced Steve Gelbs?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 She's an SNY studio reporter, but has gotten occasional fill-in work as sideline reporter.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 She's all over the 'In-Trade' thread if you care to back-track what you may have missed.
Guest cooby Guests Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 Are you guys familiar with the song Sally Simpson from ‘Tommy’? The theme for the summer was Come unto Me...etc’The Mets theme for this summer could be ‘Who fucking cares’I love this thread title !

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2018 Posted August 4, 2018 Phrases that have become all too familiar this year:- two hits for the Mets through six- [opposing pitcher] has established his season high for strikeouts- can't get that hit with runners on- deGrom once again on the short end- Mets will have to come back against the [opposing team's] closer
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2018 Posted August 4, 2018 And then there's shit like that which defies explanation
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 4, 2018 Posted August 4, 2018 Nice to see deGrom enjoying himself. Once you accept and embrace that the universe is absurd, you're halfway home.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2018 Posted August 4, 2018 Six runs allowed in two games and you feel like we've never been in either game. That it's a one-run lead and we have 2-3-4 coming up in bottom 9 doesn't evoke even a hint of a chance.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2018 Posted August 4, 2018 Not even a sniff of a hint of a suggestion of a rally!
