Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 Not sure why they would be interested in giving away top prospects for a rental when they have tons of offense anyway. You'd think they'd want to hold on to their pitching prospects.Anyway, I kinda hope it happens. The Yanks are a lock for the playoffs anyway. So I'm hoping they give away their farm to Baltimore, they get knocked out in the WC game after winning 100 games, then Machado signs elsewhere (not the NL East).
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 Well, there's one NL East team I'd like him to go to...
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2018 Author Posted July 12, 2018 You know, I didn't even consider that a possibility.I guess the Wilpons have been successful in lowering my expectations.Actually, it might be more appropriate to say they've destroyed hopes and dreams.

Even if the Mets go all in on him (which I don't expect) I think he'll have more appealing options. But who knows? Maybe Omar and Fred can turn on the charm and schmooze Manny to Flushing.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 It's shocking that Machado hasn't been dealt yet. I can't imagine the Orioles couldn't have gotten more for him in May than they can now, and it was already clear by then that they were the worst team in the league. What if he gets hurt?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2018 Posted July 12, 2018 Maybe they were waiting for more teams to commit to being "buyers" but yeah, I think an earlier deal probably would have been better for them.

I doubt it would be a rental once Manny puts on the pinstripes and realizeshe's always been a true Yankee at heart and he'll be all like where do I sign.

Whether or not he's there for the 1-game exit.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 17, 2018 Posted July 17, 2018 Buster Olney reporting that the Orioles are working on the final details of a trade. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/24119742/baltimore-orioles-deal-place-manny-machado-working-specifics-tradePhillies? Dodgers? Diamondbacks? Brewers?I certainly don't want him to be a Phillie over the long-term, but if they deal their best prospects for Manny and then lose him over the winter, that would be okay.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 17, 2018 Posted July 17, 2018 The latest unconfirmed reports say he'll be traded to the Dodgers right after the All-Star game.Imagine if he breaks his leg during tonight's game.

After Kemp strolled into second base, American League shortstop Manny Machado pulled a phone from his pocket and snapped a selfie of himself and Kemp. They were technically opponents, and Machado wore a Baltimore Orioles cap, but both men knew they were virtually teammates.Do players typically play in the field with their cell phones in their pockets? Or just in casual exhibition games like this one was?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 18, 2018 Posted July 18, 2018 I would guess the latter. It would be fun if (a) Kemp got traded too and they never became teammates, and ( Kemp is actually part of the package going to Baltimore.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 Machado to the Dodgers is a done deal - for five prospects highlighted by Cuban born OF Yusniel Diaz, a 21 y/o back of the top-100 prospect prior over this past winter but one who had stepped up his game in AA this season (.314/.428/.477)
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 19, 2018 Posted July 19, 2018 Orioles got 5 prospects for a guy about to walk, that sounds good. They even got a pitcher named ZACH POP, who if I was the Dodgers I'd never trade and I was the O's I'd consider straight-up for Manny, and maybe throw in a reliever.

Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted July 24, 2018 Posted July 24, 2018 Frazier to first. The Yankees will pick up Reyes.

I get significantly less enjoyment from season like this, but hell, there's always next year.
