Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 Jays out-pitchering the Mets, six pitchers to one.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 Swarzak simply not impressing.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 It's as if every player on the roster and every aspect of the game conspires to fuck up NYM leads in the late innings. In this case it was a leadoff hit, an error, walking the #9 hitter, and two bad relief appearances back to back - all in the same inning.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 That homer was like a Granderson special. A butt-flying golf shot of a pitch at the shins.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 (edited) But at least we answer back with a 3-pitch K ... and then follow it up with a 5-pitch K ... and then follow that up with a weak grounder Edited July 4, 2018 by Guest
Guest 41Forever Guests Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 Sickening. Gsellman must be fried form overuse.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 How does the Green Day song go again? Wake me up when September ends?

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 (edited) A few newspaper and WEB reports recently have backed off on the DeGrom trade WATPs and said maybe the Mets could get some decent players in return for Wheeler. When told about it, he said he likes New York and wouldn't want to be traded.I wonder if games like this would change his mind.OE: Here's a link:https://nypost.com/2018/07/02/mets-are-listening-to-trades-for-zack-wheeler-who-is-resistant/?src=rssLater Edited July 4, 2018 by Guest

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 Oh, bunt anyway, Nimms. Two strikes or whatever. That shift stinks. But called strike three.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 Into the shift to end it.Five LOBs for Conforto.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 Unbelievable. I don’t even know what to say.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 Remember when we thought Swarzak was hurting us by being on the DL. Turns out April was his best month.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 Well, one thing we could say, is start hitting (bunting) against the shift. I don't mean in this instance, but it's like there's collusion againstfighting back against it since everyone is using it.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 Yet another guy who was not ready to help us when he came off the DL.

Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 I told myself I wasn't going to watch. But flipping around the channels I saw they had a 5-0 lead. So I watched. Big mistake. I've never seen so many gigantic bullpen collapses by one team in a season.

Maybe Swarzak could use some time in AAA.Swarzak (and then Gsellman on the home run) kept getting ahead of guys and then not finishing the job. The more frustrating at bat for me was the walk to Hernandez. Swarzak couldn't keep him from fouling off pitch after pitch after getting ahead one and two. Ten-pitch walks are brutal.Regarding the signing -- Swarzak had a 2.33 ERA in 77 innings of work last year (with 91 strikeouts). I'd have signed up for that in a heartbeat. It's entirely Alderson's fault that the back of the pen has been occupied by a rotating cast of minor leaguers, but it's not his fault that Swarzak got hurt. It might be somebody's fault that he was activated when he still isn't right, but that's been a recurring theme here. (We should keep that in mind while waiting for Thor and Cespedes.) Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2018 Posted July 4, 2018 But as Ronnie said last night, being 'rushed' back is not an excuse - plus we have no idea if that evens applies to Swarzak anyway or if we're merely retro-fitting a reason to explain away bad pitching.Relievers are notoriously tough to predict and Gsellman's best month was April too and he suddenly can't get anyone out without a DL stint in between. But it's usually best to follow the old expression for sports in general: if you're injured you're not playing, and if you're playing you're not injured
