Alex Cobb v Jason Vargas, 7:10 first pitch.

My daughter has adopted the Orioles as her 2nd favorite team, mostly due to the cuteness of the O's mascot. As a toddler Fgirl thought that it was a duck, not an oriole, so she still calls them the Ducks and I bought her a garish pink Orioles hat for her birthday last year. So, source of inner turmoil for her this week.

The Orioles are a pretty good choice for an American League mistress. Great ballpark, great area with the inner harbor, rivals of the MFYs.

It’s just that they’re not very good right now.

Yeah, I was on board with her picking them up as an AL team to like. They also wear orange, for what it's worth.

We dig the Orioles in this house too.

If your daughter likes the bird you ought to see the twitter account:

Swarzek and Frazier return today. Who goes away? Bautista and Evans? Zager and Evans?

I'd vote Reyes and Gerson, but Sandy never asks my opinion any more.

That's the Bautista I meant. It's hard to keep track of the roster on a daily basis.
#NOTBREAKING: I have just been informed that Phillip Evans is not presently on the team. This negates my hilarious "Zager and Evans" reference. We regret the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

It was reported last week that two pitchers would go in deference to the off day Thursday and, probably, the sense they won't need an enormous bullpen versus the O's. Somebody will have to be deleted from the 40-man for Swarzak, who was chillin' on the 60-day DL.

I've a friend in Baltimore, transplanted there from LI since 1994, whose kids are nominally the opposite of Fman's daughter: the Mets are their favorite National League team, to the extent that they're old enough to know from any of this or care. Mostly it was a promise their father made to me after they were born and I'd sent them proper clothing. I'm pretty sure he was humoring me, but I was touched.

I did meet a slightly famous media type several years ago who was dead serious about this sort of thing. His son, a Mets fan, married a girl from Maryland. As an impending grandfather, he got it in blood if not writing: the kid could be a Ravens fan (seemed important to the mother), but the child had to be...HAD TO BE raised a Mets fan. The deal was struck and, as far as I know, hewed to.

The same guy also lightly but sincerely scolded me for not having kids and thus not bringing another Mets fan into the world. I don't say this of many, but he's a better fan than I am, Gunga Din.

I have/had a black and orange Mets shirt i got from BJs somewhere. Wore it to an On The Border in Paramus once and had a guy briefly talk up a prospect that I didn't recognize. I just nodded and went about my business but he saw me again later and realized it was the wrong team.

Anyway, The Orioles suck, please pluck them.

Six-year-old me, specifically during that October.

Trivia-wise, we're looking for the member of the 3K-hit club with the lowest BA.

I've got a guess.

Was thinking of someone with a little more... longevity.

That was my guess too, not sure if they revealed it yet.

If they can't score more than one against the Orioles and a pitcher with a 7.00 ERA, I don't want to hear about no bullpen. Come on, Mets.

Indeed, it's Cal, at .276. (Frankly, I'm surprised it's THAT high.)

Following a neatly-turned Rosario-Cabby-Gonzalez DP, some nice glovery by Lugo to end the O's 8th.

Would be nice if we could get, like, 2 or 3 hits strung together similarly at some point.

In lieu of two hits, I'll take a walk and an E-5.

Come now, Cabby. Shine time.

Oh snap! Maybe we can see why this O's team has the worst record in baseball.

Or, we can see why the Mets are horrible.
