Ramos is 3 years older, but still only 30 years old. I hear that both are good defensively, but I don't really know that firsthand.

Offensively, Realmuto is better, but is he way better? .753 career OPS (Realmuto) to .739 (Ramos). I guess Ramos's numbers are inflated by that insane walk year he had. But then again, it's his walk year again...

Anyway, if the price difference is Nimmo/Smith/Gimenez/Peterson for Realmuto, or "Just pay his salary" for Ramos, I'd rather Ramos.

I wouldn't overpay for Realmuto, but basically either would help as long as you avoid '15 Ramos.

The reason why the price would be MUCH higher on Realmuto compared to Ramos is that he's 3-1/2 years younger (just turned 27 vs 31 in August), is far more athletic (faster than many non-catchers),
doesn't have Ramos's severe/recent injury history (WR missed Sept + playoffs in '16 plus much of '17 with a knee), and, mainly, is under team control thru 2020 vs just the finish of this year for Ramos.
You also tend to worry about Ramos's big body going forward - listed at 6' 1" / 245 and carries the nickname of 'Buffalo'. Don't think I want a rehabbing / aging one of those.

The Marlins are going to ask for a significant return for Realmuto, as they should.

I think Ramos is a free agent at the end of this year. So you don't worry about the age thing, and it fits our needs better. TdA will be back next year.

Joel Sherman actually wrote a good article explaining the line of thinking that would make a Realmuto-for-Zimmo trade a good one. Even tho its eye opening I wouldn't do it because Zimmo.

It's funny; I looked at the first two items on this page without checking the date and was about to reply "Are you nuts? Nimmo's 2018 was better than Sanchez's 2017!"

It's also funny that we're talking about most of the same players. All the same criticisms for Ramos still hold for example, but he can still hit when healthy.

Alderson deserves some credit for hanging on to Nimmo when, this time a year ago, a lot of teams called about him.

I do think Sanchez highlights the risk with catchers. A few dings and dents, and suddenly they aren't all that. Some absurdly bad luck (a .197 BABIP can't all be attributed to the shift) didn't help his cause, to be fair. But it justifies some degree of caution if a team is trying to extort us for a guy coming off a career-best .825 OPS.
