I am fifth all-time in fielding percentage as a centerfielder, and fourth all-time in fielding percentage as an outfielder.

I hold (or held for a time, anyhow — researchers are double-checking) the American League records for consecutive errorless chances (541) and errorless games (229).

My record as a Met is flawless, having played 122 games in the outfield without committing an error.

Who am I?

Is the answer going to be someone Jeter
like (ie they never made an error because they didn't have the range to get to the ball)?

This guy was on the downside of his career by the time he first pulled on a Met uniform, but he had some range in his heyday.

The late Darryl Hamilton is our answer. Got into 150 games over parts of three seasons as a Met, 122 as an outfielder, and presumably the rest as a pinch-hitter or pinch-runner. He and Bubba Trammell were the two reserve outfielders that were shocked to find themselves leapfrogged by a virtually unknown Timo Perez, coming on to pick up most of the playing time made available by the injury to Derek Bell right as the post-season was getting under way.
