  1. Carrasco sucks. It's going to be interesting to see if the Mets win the Lindor deal in the long run. Carrasco has been a dud—though last year's 15 wins are sexy—and Lindor is good, but I'm not convinced he's quite convinced he's actually the superstar that signed a superstar contract a couple years ago. The slip in BA I'm worried might be an indication of unsavory things to come. He went from a .300s hitter in 2016 to a .270s hitter in 2018 to a .230s hitter two of the past three years. Meanwhile, Rosario is still chugging along, Gimenez isn't even 25, was an All-Star last year and has yet to fully hit his stride and ... oh yeah ... there's still two former well-regarded prospects, Isaiah Greene and Josh Wolf, still in development.
  2. What a bottom of the lineup last night. Arauz, Stewart, Ortega, Mendick all in a row. That's a Triple-A set of names right there.
  3. The International League's collective ERA is 5.27. The following are the Syracuse Mets' starters (defined as having 2+ starts with Syracuse) who are currently pitching better than league average: Joey Lucchesi, who is hurt, and that's it. So whoever they promote from there is probably going to underwhelm. However, if they're so daring to dip into what they have in Binghamton, then Mike Vasil (51.0 IP, 1-2 W-L, 3.88 ERA), Christian Scott (46.1, 3-3, 2.72), Tyler Stuart (18.0, 1-0, 3.00) and Alex Valverde (20.1, 1-0, 2.21) are have ERAs better than (Eastern) league average. Stuart has dominated High-A, Scott's been slightly less dominant but still great across the board, Valverde has struggled at Triple-A and Vasil's not quite been lights out anywhere, but of those guys I'd probably try him first as he has the most Triple-A experience. I'm intrigued by Scott and would like to see him in the majors just to see what he can do. Stuart I think they'd be rushing. Valverde's not been great ever.
  4. Oh yeah, Megill was another one I was hoping they'd trade.
  5. I was really hoping he'd pitch in the majors at 50. The last time we got close was Jamie Moyer in 2012, when he was 49. Colon pitched in the Mexican League as recently as 2021, when he was 48.
  6. Butto's 24 years old, he has a 3.00 ERA in his brief time with New York this year, he's been ranked among the club's top-30 prospects since 2020 at least. I'd say time to give him a try.
  7. Chris Bassitt, who pitched for the Mets in 2022 and who I wish they'd found a way to keep, is having a very Bassitt-esque season in Toronto. He is currently 10-6 with a 4.00 ERA and is leading the league in starts and batters faced. Gerson Bautista, who the Mets acquired with Stephen Nogosek and Jamie Callahan for Addison Reed in 2017 and who later shipped him away to the Mariners in the Diaz/Cano deal, is 1-1 with a 3.32 ERA in 23 relief appearances in the Mexican League this year. He is averaging more than a K per inning. Travis Blankenhorn, who kind of just showed up in New York and played briefly for them in 2021 and 2022, is slashing .252/.355/.471 with 15 home runs and 57 RBI in 88 games for Triple-A Rochester of the Washington Nationals system this season.
  8. Quite a poetic ending, honestly.
  9. Quadruple-A player Rafael Ortega striking out is very symbolic of how the rest of the Mets season is very likely to go.
  10. =MFS62 post_id=133663 time=1690933109 user_id=60] Greinke is 1-11 this year, but has the second most wins of active pitchers - 224. Later
  11. Somehow, Ortega's been in the majors on-and-off since 2012, yet I just became aware of his existence last year.
  12. I remember having him on my fantasy team to start the season, then ditching him because he was underperforming, then regretting ditching him when he finally started to heat up. He was a solid Met, glad to have had him, but not weeping over his departure.
  13. Hey, Adam Kolarek. He was a Mets prospect once, then they released him in 2015 and someone else scooped him up. Cool to have him back. Not hopeful about Bickford, though.
  14. Here's one trade I can get behind.
  15. I remember hating whenever he came in.
  16. I never thought the season was lost. I don't know why they're dismantling. With two months left, they're just 6 games out of the Wild Card. Have they forgotten 2015? They were a sub-.500 team in late June and were barely above .500 at the start of August, yet they made a few key acquisitions and went to the World Series. Sometimes all it takes is a Kelly Johnson or a Juan Uribe or an Addison Reed (or a Cespedes). Yet here we are, losing all our pieces. I don't get it.
  17. I liked watching him pitch. I enjoyed having two future Hall of Famers who were still viable in the rotation, with him and Scherzer. When he was on, he was electric. It's a shame he is going; I came into this season with such high hopes of success. Verlander and Scherzer, Diaz and Robertson, Quintana and Senga, Lindor and McNeil, Marte and Nimmo. On paper, it was a star-studded team. They underperformed and now they're being dismantled, unfortunately.
  18. We also traded Taylor to the Astros, with another solid prospect named Kenedy Corona, for Jake Marisnick. That deal has the potential to blow up in our faces big time.
  19. I'd really like them to clean up some of the lesser-name gobbledygook they tried earlier this year. Ditch the guys like Yacabonis, Santana, Reyes and Brigham. I think Nido could go. Maybe find a suitor for Carlos Carrasco. Get rid of Vogelbach. More controversially, I think it wouldn't hurt to get rid of Peterson and, in the long run, McNeil. McNeil is too inconsistent and has always, to me, seemed like an empty hitter. He's not quite the Jeff we had in the 2010s anymore. But I think of baseball trades from a Baseball Mogul-type mindset. That is, more from a point of fantasy. It's why I'm not a GM.
  20. Javier Baez, who was brought on board to help lead the club to the playoffs in 2021, but who instead caused headaches, is back with Detroit this year, hitting .225 in 391 ABs. He cost us first round pick Peter Crow-Armstrong, who is cranking at Double-A right now. Baez really wasn't bad with New York, statistically, as he hit .361 over his final 97 ABs with the team. Anthony Banda, who was one of a million no-names the Mets used on their pitching staff in 2021, is currently in the Nationals minor league system. He's made 10 appearances for them at the big league level this year, posting a 6.43 ERA in 7 innings. His mark is 7.91 at Triple-A. Jacob Barnes, who was also a member of that 2021 Mets team, has pitched in the Rangers, Phillies and, most recently, Cardinals systems this year. The Cards just signed him a couple weeks ago. While ERAs are elevated across Triple-A this year, his is a tidy 3.10 in 40 2/3 innings so far.

  22. 2019 Met Aaron Altherr has been with the Tri-City Valley Cats of the Frontier League this year. He's hitting .278 with 9 home runs in 54 games so far. 2017 Mets Nori Aoki is, at 43, astonishingly still active in Japan, hitting .272 with a .383 OBP in 180 ABs for the Yakult Swallows.
  23. Rolen looked like a future Hall of Famer early on, then he kept getting hurt. After about 2004, his career basically dragged ... when he played, he was solid, but for almost a decade he was somewhat elusive and his offense was seriously down over the first half of his career and that puts a damper on his case overall. The great early Rolen was overshadowed by the constantly hurt later Rolen. McGriff was the consummate compiler and is one of those sorts you look back on and think to yourself, "did he REALLY finish with nearly 500 home runs? Did he REALLY have over 1,500 RBI?" For what it's worth, he was one of the best RBI guys of his era, averaging 98 per year from 1989 to 2002. I don't mind either of them being in. I was more on Team McGriff than Team Rolen, but I don't think either hurt the Hall.
  24. I always felt comfortable when he came in. Had an All-Star worthy 2023. Outside of Raley recently, I had no real faith in anyone else. But when Robertson came in, I didn't fret. Another great name we had for too-short a time.
  25. I really liked having him just because I'm a fan of Max Scherzer. What a pitcher. I was a bit disappointed in 2022, because he missed so much of the season, and this year because he was too inconsistent, but in the aggregate he was actually quite solid. 20-9, 3.02 with nearly 300 Ks in about 250 innings with the Mets. Who am I to complain? For a year-and-a-half, we had the legend Max Scherzer. Pretty cool.
