Tate and Sadecki are correct. Well done! 1. My career [was] just [20] games over 2 seasons, not the same. The roster was filled with others the same not position or talent, by that I mean name. Who am I? --originally posted by "whoisonit" Hint: Was a pitcher Hint: Debuted for the Mets in 2007 Hint: Shared first name with three other Mets Hint: Is from Torrance, California 2. It didn't take long for the bloom to leave the rose but oh that first year, to such heights I rose. It took a few years for the stories to filter out I faded so quickly cause I drank more than stout. Long before the whispers and stories I led the league in many categories never again were my numbers so hoary. I returned to New York but a Met not to be I ended my time as a Yankee. The Mets lost pitcher Tyler Thomas to the Braves in the Rule V Draft. They drafted pitcher Justin Slaten from the Rangers, but then traded him to the Red Sox for pitcher Ryan Ammons. In the minor league rounds, they drafted catcher Donovan Antonia from the Reds and pitcher Alan Perdomo from the Rockies.

I like this one. He was a big prospect back in the day and though he's never been a superstar, he's been a pretty solid hitter. Defensively he's skilled.

Singleton and Tommie Davis are correct, and the Hall of Fame the guy is in is Cooperstown. The other guy who shared a name with him played all of one game with New York. Let's talk about Yoshinobu Yamamoto
Cowtipper replied to Benjamin Grimm's topic in New York Mets Talk
The point I was trying to make is that the hype/money the Mets put into signing Japanese guys usually doesn't breed the results we expect, and it happens with Japanese guys a lot. For every Ichiro or Hideki Matsui, there is a Kosuke Fukudome, a Kaz Matsui, a Kei Igawa, a Hideki Irabu, etc. I remember the hype around Kaz, Igarashi and Shinjo. Perhaps they were so hyped because of their novelty at the time, but we have seen time and again that in the long run the hype they receive and the output they produce do not match. The list was made arbitrarily, but I think it's fairly accurate. Hideo Nomo and Daisuke Matsuzaka, for example, were expected to be out of this world; they finished with ERAs and ERA+'s of 4.24/97 and 4.45/99, respectively for their careers. I don't understand how it's culturally dumb considering all I did was list the players born in Japan who have played for the Mets. Since we're talking about a Japanese player potentially going to the Mets I dare say the list is ... germane. Don't get me wrong, pound for pound Japanese players produce greater MLB stats than most Dominican guys, I'd say. How many guys do the Mets churn through from Latin America that never advance beyond rookie ball? But it is to be expected as the Japanese guys are going from a major league to a major league. But just as Tuffy Rhodes can go to Japan and become a star, rarely do Japanese guys that come over here match the star power they had over there, because the NPB and MLB are not exactly on the same level. MLB's talent level is still a bit higher than Japan's. So we see a lot of steps down in terms of output when Japanese guys come over here, despite the fact that they seem like they get paid decent money to put up similar star numbers. All this to say, also, be cautious with signing him ESPECIALLY considering the luck the Mets seem to have with starting pitching. -

Successful Mets Japanese imports: Kodai Senga Hisanori Takahashi Semi-successful Mets Japanese imports: Nori Aoki Ken Takahashi Masato Yoshii Japanese players that have played for the Mets: Ryota Igarashi Kazuhisa Ishii Takashi Kashiwada Satoru Komiyama Kazuo Matsui Daisuke Matsuzaka Hideo Nomo Tsuyoshi Shinjo Shingo Takatsu Italicized means they were initially signed by the Mets. The Mets have not had a great deal of success with Japanese players, whether they initially signed them or not. Unless they can get him for a great price, I would hesitate in signing him as I don't think the Mets would catch lightning in a bottle two years in a row. -

MLB Expansion - Jim Bowden /The Athletic
Cowtipper replied to metirish's topic in New York Mets Talk
I had a hard time deciding for some of the teams. I wasn't sure if I wanted them to be grouped by purely geographical terms. I almost didn't want to put Atlanta in the Central because though it is farther west than some cities, it is also in an East Coast state. Tampa is barely farther east than Cleveland, as far as I can tell, but it's in an East Coast state and Cleveland is in (what some consider) a Midwest state, so Cleveland gets shoved into the Central. I've also considered maybe it is time to put a big league club in Puerto Rico. San Juan would be the obvious choice. -
MLB Expansion - Jim Bowden /The Athletic
Cowtipper replied to metirish's topic in New York Mets Talk
I've recently considered the audacious idea of splitting MLB into three leagues—the West, the Central and the East (or something more creatively named than that). Expand the big leagues to 33 teams with 11 teams per league, keep all the current teams as is in terms of names and locations, then go where the populations are to fill out the rest. And right now Texas seems to be the most underrepresented when it comes to populations/major league clubs. So it would look something like this: East: Baltimore Orioles Boston Red Sox Jacksonville Miami Marlins New York Mets New York Yankees Philadelphia Phillies Pittsburgh Pirates Tampa Bay Rays Toronto Blue Jays Washington Nationals Central: Atlanta Braves Chicago Cubs Chicago White Sox Cincinnati Reds Cleveland Indians Houston Astros Detroit Tigers Kansas City Royals Milwaukee Brewers Minnesota Twins St. Louis Cardinals West: Arizona Diamondbacks Austin Colorado Rockies Las Vegas/Oakland Athletics Los Angeles Angels Los Angeles Dodgers San Antonio San Diego Padres San Francisco Giants Seattle Mariners Texas Rangers Florida doesn't seem to have much luck with major league baseball, but it keeps hanging around, so it might be worth a shot with Jacksonville. Austin is kind of close to Houston, but it's about the same distance as LA to SD. Hard to believe the best San Antonio can muster right now is a Double-A club.
