Hey! It's not just "some other" forum, it's my other baseball home, and it's not from some random thread, it's a thread I lovingly started 15 years ago and have been curating (on-and-off) ever since. I was originally just going to post the questions and poems that I made on that other thread, but I decided to include everyone else's, as well. Some of the rhymes are weak, I admit. Call it artistic license. We're 15 years removed from one of them I'll be posting eventually, but I still remember it and how bad it was, but I'll still post it just to be a completionist. Anyway, it's actually not George Stone, it's the other fella involved in that trade, the one involved in an unfortunate dune buggy accident. He played just 4 games with the Mets in '69, that's why I edited the poem to say "might have received" a ring ... because I'm not convinced a guy with 4 games in would have received one. Hopefully I didn't give it away too quickly, but I think I did.

Roach and Ellis are correct! 1. Who am I? https://i.imgur.com/mWyzSDH.png> Hint: Was an answer to a previous question in this thread. Hint: Struck out once in Mets career 2. For the Mets, I pitched five seasons And why I didn't pitch much I don't know the reasons In total I appeared in 48 games for the team I was unimpressive, or so it would seem Following the Mets, I played for LA And in five games with them, I did okay Who am I? Ten Mets on the Ballot (Hall of Fame 2024)
Cowtipper replied to G-Fafif's topic in New York Mets Talk
I'm a "big Hall" kind of guy, so of the candidates with Mets experience I could actively support or could see Hall of Fame cases for the bolded names: David Wright, Jose Reyes, Bartolo Colon, Jose Bautista and Adrian Gonzalez — and five Met holdovers — Carlos Beltran, Bobby Abreu, Billy Wagner, Gary Sheffield and Francisco Rodriguez. I actively support Abreu, Beltran, Wagner, Sheffield and Rodriguez. I don't actively support Wright, yet, but could in the future; that doesn't mean I think he'd hurt the Hall too much if he was elected, I just don't actively push his induction yet. Bautista could feasibly have a peak case, but I don't actively support him and would be hard-pressed to support him. Colon was good, but he was good like Dennis Martinez or Jamie Moyer were good, in that they pitched forever and put together good compiler stats because of it. Adrian Gonzalez and Jose Reyes I'd say had Hall of Fame potential, but faltered too early to make it. -
With Jeff McKnight being answered correctly, here's an updated list of questions. 1. I was originally drafted by the A's But for them I would never play Once I threw nine wild pitches in 76 frames But the next year I threw none in 27 games My career as a Met was not that great The games I played for them totaled eight As a batter I had 10 career hits And my Mets ERA was 7.36. Hint: Debuted with the Mets in 1973. Hint: Died in 2019. Hint: He wore both Nolan Ryan's number at one point...and also Gary Gentry's. Hint: His only other big league club was the Expos. Hint: Pitched from 1970 to 1974. Hint: https://i.imgur.com/wUF2G1h.jpg> Hint: Player initials are J. S. Hint: His first name was John Who am I? 2. Edgy MD wrote: The most recent number five certainly looks like Jeff McKnight, but McKnight also played for the Mets in 1989, and the poem about number five seems to refer to a pitcher. I think I'm not following when a number is being reused for a new guy. It is Jeff McKnight, I totally glanced over the fact he played for the club in 1989, as well. Well done. Every time a guy is guessed correctly, I just replace him with a new question/poem/picture. Sometimes I start a new post with the updated questions, but if multiple questions are answered in the same day, I just update the previous post, so as not to clutter this thread too much. So ignore the earlier posts in the thread, the most recent one is the one to look at for the most up-to-date questions—the numbers 1-through-5 are constantly evolving. (For Internet archivists who stumble on this thread 1,000 years from now an wonder what is going on, here are a few questions that were answered and then replaced, being edited out of earlier posts and lost to the ether forever (though technically they still exist in post form earlier in this thread, for the most part): I spent two seasons in orange and blue. but also played for 5 other teams too. Hints provided.

Eric Cammack is correct! I've updated the above post with a new entry.

Alomar (Sandy, Sandy, Roberto) is correct! Franco used to work (Matt, John, Julio), as well, until a few years ago. I've replaced the Alomar question with a new one. Question #1 has been hanging around for a long time, so I gave a (hopefully) gimme hint that should make it a lot easier.

It was in fact Roberto Petagine. I know Tom O'Malley also pretty closely fit the description, but he wasn't a first baseman/outfielder. 1. I thought that's who you were going after, but I've not been around long enough to know the inside jokes and stuff of this place yet. Correct! I've edited the post above, removing the Gary Carter question and adding a new one.

After going silent for a week (it's busy season at work), I return. Ryan Church is correct! I'm 99% sure steverogers got the other one, but I need him to spell it out a bit more... While we wait: 1. I was drafted by Boston in '92 And as a minor leaguer I did fine Time went by and before I knew I was a rookie at 29 Hint: Debuted with the Mets in 2003. Hint: Was a catcher. Rogers Hornsby is correct, though Red Kress would also work. I'll assume DocTee meant Rich Becker for #5, because that is correct as well. I've added hints to the two from the original post that haven't been updated yet. 1. I won the World Series with 2 different teams, and that was every bit exciting as it seems. Post a poem, post a picture, post a description, post a trivia question—but the goal is to give a hint—in some form—then have your fellow Mets fans Guess that Met! Here's a few to get us started (I originally wrote these when I was a teenager so bear with me): 1. I was drafted by Boston in '92 And as a minor leaguer I did fine Time went by and before I knew I was a rookie at 29 Who am I? 2. I was originally drafted by the A's But for them I would never play Once I threw nine wild pitches in 76 frames But the next year I threw none in 27 games My career as a Met was not that great The games I played for them totaled eight As a batter I had 10 career hits And my Mets ERA was 7.36. 3. Who am I? -originally posted by "whoisonit" 5. I came with another player in a deal from an out of division team. We both played big roles in that 1st great season we spent in orange & blue. More recent releases: Dylan Hall - in system since 2021, peaked at Triple-A, released despite 3.10 ERA and 10 K/9 IP marks in '23; career marks of 3.61 and 9.9, respectively Gregory Leal - in system since 2021, peaked at Double-A Luis Montas - in system since 2021, peaked at High-A, released despite 3.38 ERA in '23 Jonaiker Palacios - in system since 2021, peaked at rookie ball Yordis Perera - in system since 2023, peaked at rookie ball Joe Joe Rodriguez - in system since 2022, peaked at High-A; averages nearly 11 K/9 IP for career Luis Rodriguez - in system since 2021, peaked at High-A, released despite 3.69 mark and averaging nearly one K/IP in '23 and a 2.53 career mark Eric Santana - in system since 2021, peaked at rookie ball Sammy Tavarez - in system since 2021, peaked at Double-A, where he had 3.00 ERA in 2023; averages 13 K/9 IP for career Christopher Vasquez - in system since 2021, peaked at Single-A

The Mets recently released Adrian Hernandez, who'd been in their system since 2018, though he peaked at High-A and had a career .216 average. They also released Manuel Guance, who'd been in their system since 2021, but hit for a low average and never played above rookie ball. Luis Castillo, a different one, was shown the door recently; he'd been in their organization since 2019, but hit just .196 ... he also had a .358 OBP, which is impressive considering the low BA. Dyron Campos was shown the door after playing in their system since 2019. He showed promise early on, but ended up peaking at High-A. Fernando Villalobos was given the boot ... he hit just .146 in four seasons in their system, including .110 in 118 ABs this year.
-
More releases: Herlyn Pena and Gerald Mejia—in their system since 2021, but never advanced beyond rookie ball. Roger Cortez—joined their system in 2023 and was released after a year in rookie ball. Elliot Johnstone—New Zealand-born pitcher played in the Australian league for a few years before joining the Mets system this year. He played for their Single-A team. Pedro Mercedes—pitcher had a 1.86 ERA in 8 relief appearances at rookie ball this year, his first pro campaign, but was let go anyway. Ramon Henriquez—2023 was his first pro campaign and he was already 24, so despite his success (2.96 ERA at Single-A), he was let go.
