  1. Am I wrong for getting Bobby Bonilla vibes? Tucker is the best player in this free agent market, and Met fans are demanding a star player. But he might be the best fit for what we actually need. On the bright side, Bonilla was hired to be the centerpiece, rather than a complement to Barry Bonds like he was in Pittsburgh, and didn't do well with those expectations. Tucker would have Soto and Lindor to share the bright lights. What do you think?
  2. Alex Cohen, who has been very active on Instagram, announced she is closing her account. It was always a fun read. She said she'd doing it to spend more time away from screens. But I have to wonder if the negativity around the team now made her a target of sorts. I saw one post from a quasi-news site going after Steve, saying his Mets fandom is overblown and that he's more of a Knicks fan. A shame to see this kind of stuff happen.
  3. With more than 27 percent collected, Beltran is up to 88 percent and Jones to 82.9 percent. A little breathing room. I have to imagine the last thing the Hall of Fame wants is an induction weekend with just Jeff Kent on the podium.
  4. Had to go with Frank "Sweet Music" Viola! The pride of East Meadow was a three-time All-Star, World Series MVP, and Cy Young Award winner! Won 20 games for the Mets in 1990. We traded another 26, Kevin Tapani -- a member of the Central Michigan University Hall of Fame -- to get him, along with Rick Aguilera. Worked out better for the Twins.
  5. I don't think anyone's getting in. The percentages tend to lag behind what ballot tracker says due to the guys who don't share their ballots publicly. So if the tracker says someone has 77 percent, they tend to be at least five percent lower and will fall short. Beltran and Jones are both up to 81.9 percent, so I'm keeping fingers crossed. Here's what I don't understand. Two writers told the tracker they submitted blank ballots. I don't get that. If you don't want to vote for anyone, then don't vote. Toss your ballot in the trash. Whatever. But turning in a blank ballot just makes it harder percentagewise for the players.
  6. Well, the Brewers weren't dropping $755 million on Juan Soto.
  7. Robert Suarez to the Braves. I thought he might have been one of the Plan B options for Diaz, but I guess not.
  8. Disaster. Five years, $155 million. It's like we're going into rebuilding mode without the benefit of getting prospects back in a fire sale. I know the only thing that matters is what the roster looks like on Opening Day and not Dec. 10. But I'd sure like to see something. They almost have to go all in on Tucker or Bellinger.
  9. Diaz' brother has been a real pain in the butt. First he jumps on his back and causes the celebration injury -- irresponsible and unnecessary -- and now he prompts him to head to LA.
  10. I’m stunned Kent got more votes than Murphy and Mattingly. I also don’t see a path for Clemens or Bonds anytime soon. This was probably their best shot and they weren’t even close.
  11. Not quite yet, but we have a plan anyway. This makes me so happy, early Christmas present Absolutely!
  12. Let me know if there is anything I can do to assist. I very much appreciate this forum and community it has created over the decades. I'm happy to take on some responsibilities or be part of a group covering costs. Thank you all for all the work you do and have done.
  13. If they get them both, and Minter is reasonably healthy, that's a bad assed end of the bullpen!
  14. Wow! I didn’t see this one coming!
  15. Seeing reports that the Mets are likely to sign the Astros pitcher for six years, $200 million. Not sure I like this one.
  16. No slam dunks among the newcomers. Might be a good year for Carlos Beltran and Andruw Jones - or none at all. (I had to leave out two names because they would not fit in our 25-option limit. If you were planning to vote for Howie Kendrick or Gio Gonzalez, accept my apologies.)
  17. Lou Whitaker denied again. Would rather see him on there than the PED users.
  18. I'm on Team The Loose Bodies Were Causing More Problems Than Were Being Told and hope it is being addressed this off season.
  19. Doug Henning Theodore Roosevelt
  20. I don’t have a problem with Mendoza. Wasn’t his fault. I think Shildt is leaving before his contract is up. You don’t see guys doing that too often. That probably means he won’t resurface elsewhere, depending on what his contract says. All the best to him.
  21. Mike Schildt out in San Diego.
