  1. ]Kevin McReynolds? A much better player than Mets fans give him credit for, but he is the poster boy for guys not able to handle NYC Possibly the dumbest accusation, ever, of someone who is unable to handle NYC.
  2. TORVO Throwing Out Runners is Vastly Overrated Membership is currently 3, IIRC
  3. The All-Purpose "Are They Really Pretending That Stat is a Big Deal?" Thread. Here's one that I've seen a couple of times since Soler's callup was announced...but nymets.com is now actually calling it "historic". In no other season of their last 20 have the Mets used a ninth starting pitcher before their 65th game.
  4. Johnny Dickshot wrote: The "Arod isn't clutch" bashing is probably the most ridiculous, unfair criticism I can recall in the last 10 years of my MFY-hating I agree. And there has been a LOT of dumbass bashing by Yankee-fans and Yankee-haters in that time.
  5. I have very little desire to read this thread. I get that feeling a lot these days.
  6. Willets Point wrote: Can the film possibly fully capture all the nuance of Dan Brown's craptastic writing style? I'd say yes. The movie was almost completely exposition. The book was exactly the same thing, with Langdon explaining every little detail along the way.
  7. seawolf17 wrote: This is something I will never, ever, ever, ever understand, and I blame Tony LaRussa and Dennis Eckersley for the downfall of baseball as we know it. So Willie brings Wagner in the game in a "non-save" situation. Willie made a bad call because he brought in Wagner right after he had pitched about 17 hours ago, when he should have just left a strong-looking Sanchez alone to finish the game. If Sanchez had also pitched the night before, I wouldn't have a problem with Willie's move. Personally, I'm not saying he made a bad call just because he brought Wagner in for a non-save situation.
  8. Bad call Willie.
  9. I think it may be in the Humor thread already.
  10. Post the whole list. It's a good one.

  12. Confirmed: Shawn Chacon will not start Sunday due to injury. Aaron Small will replace him.
  13. Frayed Knot wrote: Really in all three of Lima's starts he's probably deserved somewhat better than the result -- Today: horrible call at 1st (out by a half-stride) plus his own error and about the dinkiest bloop on the planet ... all of which would count for something only if the results were within throwing distance of good. Instead, he would have needed all the luck he didn't get just to get to semi-mediocre and that's not going to cut it. Also the second run in the first inning doesn't score if Beltran had thrown to the cutoff man for once in his Met career. On Rolen's single, that is.
  14. Gwreck wrote: I think the grades are rock-solid. I'd flip Delgado and Beltran's grades though. Just can't give the A until the average comes up a little more. Delgado has been playing at an A- level, but perhaps gets a little favorable consideration for having some particularly big hits. I disagree. As long as his OBP and SLG are that high, actual batting average is fine at .257.
  15. I'd give Valentin a D+. You're a little hard on Young David. I'd give Kaz a C- since his fielding has improved. Very nice overall, Monk. I like the grading gimmick.
  16. Has the Pythagorean record ever matched the actual record?

I wonder what that would show, as long as you're so interested in short-term performance levels. True enough...it is a short term fielding performance that I am speaking of. But I don't think W-L with Andy and W-L with Kaz is the way to judge things, even in the short term. I'd still go with things like fielding percentage and OBP in those cases. In which case Kaz is probably still outperforming Andy. I'm just shocked that you like certain short-term performances while dismissing others. Which others am I dismissing again? W-L record? Do you really think that is a good indicator of Kaz's playing ability over Andy's? There are no other factors which could skew the results? Did Andy ever have to play in a game that Jose Lima pitched in? Don't forget to respond to this one, Bret. Turn both of Lima's losses into wins. Now do the math. Forget Lima's starts for a second then. My point is that a team's W-L record is not a good indicator of individual performace. Don't you agree? 2nd question---which measurement was I willifully ignoring?
  18. ="Gwreck"]="Elster88"]="Frayed Knot"]Right. When a team takes a lead in an otherwise-official game during the middle of an inning but rain prevents the inning from being complete, the result has to revert back to the last whole inning - as if the 7th (in this case) had never happened. I don't think this is true. If the game gets called off all together they just start a new game from scratch. No, Frayed Knot has it right. You start a new game from scratch if it isn't an official game. If it is an official game, then you can end it if one team is ahead. If no team is ahead, you have to keep going. No team was "ahead" because the Cardinals hadn't had the chance to bat in the 7th. If the Cardinals were ahead (instead of the Mets) when the tarp went on the field, they could've called the game and the Cardinals would have won. Well that just doesn't seem fair.

Frayed Knot wrote: ]Cohen however said that since the visiting team took a lead in the top of an inning that was not completed after the 5th that if the game had to be called it would not be an official game but rather a 'suspended' game. I was confused but after thinking about it, it makes sense. The home team would have to have the same amount of opportunities to score I guess. So since the Mets went ahead in the top of the 7th, the Cards would have to be given a chance to bat in their half of that inning. Right. 22. Pelfrey has not been overly impressive in AA yet, either. Calm down cleon. Read some of the responses to your posts.

  24. I disagree. Cliff was hitting the ball hard before he got sat. I'd wager it's just coincidence that two of them happened to drop in today.
