  1. I want to puke.
  2. You posting from the field? Blackberry?
  3. The average CPFer intelligence level is higher than that of the average citizen.
  4. I think I kind of see where cj is going with this. I always thought the news was more likely to lead with a story of a murder before a feel good story.
  5. Centerfield wrote: I'm ok with the once a week bit...but let him sit the whole game so he can let the dialogue come to him. I agree, but I'm wondering if at this point in his recovery that that would be too long a session for him.

  7. I'll buy that.
  8. Hillbilly wrote: Soler throws a soft pitch out. Willie needs to ball him out and the press needs to write about this rookie mistake for about a week. I think it's a character flaw. Back to the PBP: Soler leaves two on by inducing the ground out. What is a "soft pitch out"?

  10. Where can a young lad find information on league average stats? I'd like to see what the average hitter's OBP is. I'd also like to see what the average leadoff hitter's OBP is.

  12. I think I'm remembering a nod similar to the one from KKI. I could be wrong. The egregious error is in the second line I quoted.
  13. ]Steve Phillips on ESPN Radio this morning said that, when Omar was his assistant, he'd say all the time "Steve, prospects will get you fired." Meaning if you waited for them to reach their potential you'd lose so much in the meantime that you wouldn't be around as GM to see it. Phillips thought Omar would definitely go for the deal, but thought Beane would look to involve other teams to drive the price even higher than Milledge - specifically, the teams that don't get Clemens.
  14. ="Centerfield"]This may cause me to get struck by lightning here, but I think Alex Rodriguez actually is a stand up guy. I think he's a bit of a wuss...and sure that slap play on Arroyo was bush-league. But he has had to apologize for his contract ever since 2001. And that is not fair. At any point, he could have lashed out and said, "Hey, that wasn't my decision to offer me that much money." But he hasn't. He's accepted that such criticism will follow the money. He could also really get upset about the booing on the heals of an American League MVP. Or the way the press features a photo of A-Rod every time the Yanks are struggling. Or get upset about the bullshit "clutch" argument used to canonize Jeter and demonize A-Rod. I agree with all of that. I've read in a few places that, besides the money/jealousy issue, the reason a lot of other ballplayers hate him is because he has a lot of Gary Carter in him. Not the "I'm going to pose in front of as many cameras as I can" part of The Kid. But the "I'm going to give you advice all the time and talk like I know everything about the game and like I'm a coach" part. One thing in particular that sticks in my mind is some player saying that he was on second and ARod was shouting from the dugout "Get a secondary lead, get a secondary lead." I really think ARod thinks that kind of talk is helpful and appreciated, and doesn't realize that it can be annoying and make you seem like a know-it-all weenie. (We had a guy like that on my high school team.) ----------------- At the end of the day, the guy hasn't been caught with steroids, doesn't throw firecrackers, doesn't treat reporters and/or fans like shit, and busts his ass on every play. The quote above is really telling too: "I'm not gonna sit here and whine and complain about any situation that I'm in.". He recognizes that being booed sucks but also realizes that 99.99999999% of the population would trade jobs with him in a split-second. (In that respect, he's a lot like Natalie Portman, who says it was difficult growing up as an actress, but was quick to say she feels really blessed and lucky and didn't mean to knock it.) All threads lead to Natalie Portman.
  15. Me neither. What's the problem with those quotes, Irish?
  16. If there is ever a CPF field trip to their park, I'll be there.
  17. ]Can we go ahead and declare the Zambrano-Kazmir trade the worst baseball trade of the new century? Why would any franchise want a young left-hander who was major league ready and threw 95 mph? Those guys are like, a dime a dozen. Not like 30 year old righties with control problems. Not entirely accurate, but the gist is there. Everytime I forget the Franco/Leiter/music controversy I see it somewhere new.
  18. ]"Buck didn't know anything about this," Guillen said. "Padilla is a great kid, a tremendous pitcher, but he doesn't communicate with anyone. I don't think Buck plays that game. He's not one of my favorite people but he's a pro Guillen doesn't mince words huh. At least no one can accuse him of not speaking his mind.
  19. ScarletKnight41 wrote: ]Maybe this is something we should consider for next year? Each person grabs a team or two and then gives periodic updates on that team's season, trades, call-ups, etc. You would also do that team as a KTE if/when we played them since you'd be up to speed and wouldn't need additional research. The key word is that each person chooses to be a part of this project. I'd opt out - as it is, I'd prefer not to be in the KTE pool (I'll do the Pirates this year, as assigned, but frankly it's a project where the angst outweighs any enjoyment that I get out of it). I agree with SK, I'd probably be into it for like the first month and then get bored with it. I'd only be into it all season if there was another team I really liked, which I think is the case with this guy and the Mets.
  20. I really like seeing what other fans in other cities say about the Mets. It's nice to get that perspective.
  21. Miyagi knows this and made a "No!" face when Danny Boy struck the stance. He made a "yes" face. Wisking Ally out of the picture is a cheap device too many sequels have Wow. You are officially no longer allowed to post about The Karate Kid. (j/k)
  22. JC Penny 3.98
  23. That first shot was taken in my apartment. Not that you should recognize my apartment.
  24. I love how everyone recognizes what a douchebag Phillips is on the air. To me it's jealousy. ]It was fantastic to be able to actually watch the Mets and Pedro here in Central CT. During BBTN after the Mets game they had a stat that this was the earliest point that any team ever had a 5 game lead in the history of baseball. Thats pretty amazing considering the 98 Yankees, the 162-0 Mariners, and the 35-5 Tigers of 84. Of course Steve Philips was there to crap all over it for all the Mets fans in the audience by revealing that the Mets will be in trouble if Pedro goes down with an injury. Thats insightful analysis Mets fans have probably not heard before.
