  2. True. I was also making the point that Willie didn't seem upset with him or anything. Milledge had a huge smile on his face and was laughing.
  3. After the game yesterday Willie gave Milledge a huge hug and shoulder massage from behind as the team was shaking hands on the field.
  4. ]The road trip, to Los Angeles, Phoenix and Philadelphia, marked the second time a Mets team has won nine of 10 road games. The other instance was 20 years ago in a World Series championship season. The Mets also have won eight straight on the road, an achievement accomplished in their history by only the 1988 team, the last Mets division winner. They are in position to win nine straight and become the first Mets team since 2000 to do so. The 2000 team is the last Mets club to play in a postseason.

  6. The evenings following an afternoon game are so much more relaxing when a W was put on the board.
  7. Note to self: Get KTE assignment as early in the season as possible.
  8. Again, he's apparently in incredible shape. While a stolen base at that age is impressive, I don't think it's necessary for Fasano to go home and suck down the end of a Smith & Wesson.

  10. Centerfield wrote: It was ridiculous how badly Posada was crowding the plate. I have always thought, if it were possible, that there should be some imaginary line extending six inches or so off the plate, and if you were dumb enough to get hit by a pitch while in that zone, you shouldn't get a base. I think, technically, that the rule is if the player doesn't attempt to move that the umpire has discretionary powers to call it a simple ball. If he's in the strike zone it can be called a strike I don't think I've ever seen either rule enforced though. Probably the "did he try to get out of the way rule" is a little tough to judge. If the hitter thinks the ball is going to break, he may stay in there waiting for it to break, and appear to be trying to get hit on purpose.
  11. Centerfield wrote: For the record, I have no problem with local announcers being "homers" to the extent they are fans. Gary and Howie have no qualms about representing themselves as fans and you only need to listen for ten minutes to recognize their rooting interest. My problem with local announcers is when their narrow-minded view of their team affects their ability to view things in an unbiased manner. Yeah, that's what I meant, too. I have heard charges levelled against the Met broadcasters that they wouldn't dare speak ill of the Mets or any of the players. Howie, Keith and Ron spent an entire half-inning going over Milledge's baserunning blunder. In fact, I thought that they went a little overboard, I think they showed the play about ten times from different angles, and they didn't talk about anything else for the entire half inning following the play.
  12. ScarletKnight41 wrote: While I was killing time during last night's rain delay, I sent SNY an e-mail at sportsnetnewyork@sny.tv - ]In general, I really enjoy SNY and I watch it often. However, I am finding the anti-smoking public service announcements to make the station increasingly unwatchable. How many times per day do we have to see the Voice Box Guy? The ads are so gross as to be unwatchable and, thus, they hamper the anti-smoking cause more than they help it. I don't watch SNY to get grossed out - I watch it to see the Mets. To see these ads constantly throughout the day is spoiling my viewing experience. Public service ads are a great thing, but can you show some that aren't so disgusting? You'll influence more smokers and lose fewer sports fans if you run clever ads rather than those that you are currently showing. Thank you, I suggest that any of you who are tired of these ads write a quick e-mail of your own on the subject. If they hear from enough disgruntled viewers, perhaps they'll be less inclined to gross us out so frequently. In their defense there is a new one which is much easier to deal with. The same guy is simply walking by a pool saying how he used to love swimming, but he can't anymore because he would drown if water got in the hole in his throat. And that to me is a good commercial. It gets your attention with the guy using his amplifier to talk, and gets the message across that he can't even go swimming anymore. I haven't seen the one where he takes a shower since I saw this new one.
  13. That's too bad. He signed for me back in the day.
  14. Getting your homework done early. Very impressive, Steve. Nice one.
  15. TransMonk wrote: I feel dirty saying it, but if Milledge was on any other team, I would hate his guts. Ballplayers with attitudes (especially rookies with attitudes) rub me the wrong way. This is what I was going for.

That's very funny. Thanks for the help. Sarcasm aside, I hope you see where I'm coming from at least.
  17. I think it's evident that the Met broadcasters are willing to get on the Met players. Or at least Lastings Milledge. Not homers, I says.
  18. Elster88 wrote: The theory I heard was that if the Mets go 13-13 (or better) then they will win the division in a walk. 13-13 would put them at 46-35 at the exact halfway mark of the year. 9-1 is a good start.
