  1. I dunno about this crap. Our bullpen is solid without Sanchez. I just don't like this trade right now. Let's put something in the prediction archives.
  2. Damon Jeter Rodriguez Giambi (1B) Abreu (RF) Sheffield (DH) Matsui Posada Cano Un-fricken-believable. At least their pitching sucks, so they won't win a playoff series. Assuming they play one.
  3. Rotblatt wrote: Given Sanchez going down, that's a pretty darn good deal. Perez has been godawful this year, but he's a 25-year old who throws in the mid-90's and has a nice slider. And he's a lefty. Meanwhile, Robo's a solid reliever, although his peripherals have been terrible this year (1.63 WHIP, 33-24 K-BB). I wonder if there's a minor leaguer involved we haven't heard about yet. If not, Littlefield just got pwned. Nady's a'ight and all, but it looks to me like his ceiling is capped at average. Nady still has yet to play a complete season. I'd have liked to see what he could do. Poor bastid. Pittsburgh sucks.
  4. Geez, you leave the office for an hour and look what happens. Couldn't we have gotten Bert for something less than Nady? I think Milledge has potential, but his OPS is slightly below .700 as a major leaguer. And Floyd gets hurt every day.
  5. Yo. Now you're getting personal.

  8. Only two National League teams are on pace to win 90 or more games, the Mets and the Cards. And the Cards just barely. 90 wins is a .556 winning percentage, the Cards are at .558.
  9. metirish wrote: I heard Gary say yesterday that a player with a no-trade clause can't be put on waivers.....strange..I think it was Gary although it could have been Steve Phillips. That kind of makes sense, because if someone can veto any trade, how is it fair to allow any team to pick him up on waivers.
  10. Edgy DC wrote: Robocop would only be needed if Heilman is dealt. Agreed. He'd be fourth on the depth chart of righties, IMHO, if we added him to what we have now.
  11. Me too. But I'm trying to ignore that rumor as best I can. Keeping the hopes down as much as possible.

  14. Edgy DC wrote: Well, sure but these aren't 1988 dollars. Yeah. Not 100% sure that I'm understanding your metaphor, but of course I agree that offense is a lot easier to come by today. But, to me at least, the similarity is startling. 1988 Mac (552 AB): .288/.336/.496//.832 25 2B, 3 3B 82 R, 27 HR, 99 RBI 38 BB, 56 K 2006 Valentin (projected to 500 AB): .289 AVG, .337 OBP, .523 SLG, .860 OPS 35.6 2B, 6.3 3B 77.4 R, 23.0 HR, 90.0 RBI 39.7 BB, 85.8 K
  15. A full season of 2006 Valentin (projected to 500 at-bats) .289 AVG, .337 OBP, .523 SLG, .860 OPS 35.6 2B, 6.3 3B 77.4 R, 23.0 HR, 90.0 RBI 39.7 BB, 85.8 K That's approaching a 1988 McReynolds....who batted fifth on that team....and Valentin bats eighth for this team. Draw your own conclusions from there.

Iubitul wrote: ="Gwreck"]I forgot the other great moment from yesterday: Can't remember the context, but something came up about the idea of "women staying at home, cleaning, cooking" or stereotypes to that effect. Keith: "No comment." Gary: "Good job." They were showing the met fan wearing a veil, and her friend - presumably her husband - holding a broom... Keith made a comment about it being one heck of a honeymoon if she was still wearing her veil, and Gary made a comment about her already doling out the household chores, since he was holding a broom. Classic. I remember the girl with the veil, but I don't remember the No Comment-Good Job exchange. Must be getting senile.
  17. No, no, that's what he wants.
  18. Beltran already tied for the 28th best RBI season. Not bad kid. That's not a bad RBI count for Huskey back in '97. 20. I was on jury duty once, for a week-long criminal case of First Degree Assault (not sure if that was the charge, but it was whatever one is defined as "the person under attack could've died"). I was absolutely horrified by the experience. At one point, one of the jurors said during our deliberations (out loud and verbatim) "Oh Jesus, please don't let me send this poor boy to jail." I have no faith in the jury system since that case, which isn't really fair since it's such a small sample size. But it is how I feel these days. I was further horrified watching TV following the Jayson Williams acquittal. This one is not verbatim, but pretty darn close "I thought he did it, but I voted not guilty because he seemed like he was sorry for what he did."
