1. I'm not a huge Shawn Green fan. Or Geoff Jenkins. But that is not an appetizing lineup I see.
2. I was tempted. From reading the articles and IGT it sounds like he was really solid through the first few innings. But I'm trying my best to stick to basing my beer distribution on the game as a whole.
3. Edgy DC wrote: An' zat's it. Wagner, according to the Nats radio crew, hit 100. While I understand the flaws in radar guns, I am pleased to have Billy Wagner as the Met closer going into the 2006 playoffs.
4. NY Times wrote: Johnson came up with two outs in the fourth and drove a 3-2 fastball into the loge level at R.F.K. Stadium, ending the longest scoreless streak by a Mets rookie starter and marking the teams longest since Al Leiters in 1998. Maine turned and watched Johnsons home run sail out, but he did not seem perturbed that three weeks worth of hard work had vanished so abruptly. Absolutely atrocious wording. In no way did the three weeks' work vanish.
5. I do not believe Maine deserves any Schaefer for last night's game, and I am taking into account the run scored.
6. Beltran 3 Tucker 1.5 Feliciano 1 Reyes 1 Wright 1 Heilman 0.75 Wagner 0.75
7. Edgy DC wrote: I don't know if this is satisfying to you, but go to a season in the IMDB in which a guy got 100 RBI --- there weren't that many before Davey Johnson's era. Click on a September boxscore, and at the top of the box, it'll have a link for "Mets Stats Through This Game." Go forward and backward through time until you find the date. That's what I figured.
8. A couple of my Met friend buddies are optimistic about Perez. So seem to be some radio call in folks. So seem to be some people here. I do not share any such optimism.
9. How do I go about figuring out what Met was the fastest to 100 RBI in one season?
10. Geoff Jenkins?
11. Another question: What do you think of the idea of trading Mike Cameron for Roberto Hernandez and Oliver Perez? 'Cuz that's what we did, IIRC.
12. That's okay in my book. I don't see how you can be a comeback player if you never got there before. I think, though I could be wrong, that Jose's best years before this year were along the lines of .220, 20 HR and 20 errors.
13. Franco 1b Valentin 2b Tucker lf Milledge rf That's pretty ugly. Whenever Valentin is surrounded by questionable hitters I unfairly start to question him again.
14. Glavine 3.5 LoDuca 1.5 Reyes 1 Oliver 0.75 RHernandez 0.75
15. seawolf17 wrote:Credit to Reyes for knowing Eddie K. Who says players don't know their baseball history?I was going to say that.
16. Johnny Dickshot wrote: Joe went on to say that although he likes Pujols and he likes Wright and Reyes is really what makes the Mets go, he likes Wright because driving in runs is harder than scoring runs, in his opinion. Oy. LOL. Not sure how I missed this the first time through. Some of you had me convinced for a time there that Morgan had some intelligence. That's over again.
17. Jose Reyes' OBP: .351 Jose Reyes' BB: 38 (projected 54.48)
18. So what the hell is the deal that a player like Valentin or Chavez is seeing such success this year? How on earth is Tucker slapping RBI doubles and throwing bbs to nail guys at second?
19. I do think this is an amusing article, I just put it here because I don't know where else to put it and it's not worth a thread unto itself.http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=caple/060810&lpos=spotlight&lid=tab5pos1
20. ]Point No. 1: 17-year-old players are not supposed to be ready for full-season leagues. Point No. 2: 17-year-old players are certainly not supposed to be good enough to earn a promotion to High Class A by getting a hit in every three at-bats. Martinez is a ridiculous offensive talent with ability well beyond his years Are we sure he's 17?
21. They didn't really come from anywhere, IMO. More like Cincinnati came back to them and no one else moved forward. The National League is a whole bunch of .500 teams. Even St. Louis is basically a .500 team right now.
22. The question is, at what age is it okay to treat it like a real game, and at what age is it still about everyone getting a chance to play and everyone being treated equally? Putting aside that issue for a minute, I think saying that the players won't care after 2 Dove bars is completely unrealistic----and Reilly makes silly statements like that all the time. The kids want to win too. (At least I did when I was 9. And I did when I was 6.)
23. Detroit is on pace to win 108 games this year.
