In case you couldn't tell, I'm pissed at the world right now. Riveras gonna throw a WP there?? Wishful thinking. He could plunk Craig Counsell.

Beltran steals 3rd, scores on wild pitch. Mets 2, AL 1.
  3. Stat check: LoDuca has given up fewer homers than Lima so far this year.

  5. Welcome to the big leagues, kid -- where rooks don't get no respect, even in their own thread titles.
  6. Willie calls for Lima to bunt with 1 out. A Reyes hit scores two (hopefully). Scratch that -- IBB Reyes. Even the fish know Woody can't hit this year.
  7. With newfound understanding, here's a (tangentially) Met-related one: Carlos Delgado, 2000 — .344 / .470 / .644 // 1.134 (OPS+ of 182) 41 home runs, 57 doubles, 1 triple for 378 total bases; 137 RBIs, 115 runs scored, 123 walks 162 games played at first; made 13 errors Did I mention he hit .344 with 41 homers?
  8. Billy Wagner coming through, he's throwing heat, no doubt.

  10. Davey's in the HR derby.
  11. MFS62 wrote: My current concern is that the team still seems reliant on the home run to score. I don't see good situational hitting skills throughout the lineup, or the ability to "build runs". In absence of the long ball, it seems like most of the big scoring innings have been the result of walks and errors rather than stringing together a series of hits. Just my impression, though. I really thought a good portion of our offense in Streak Part Deux was fraught with errors (and walks) by the opposing team that led directly to runs. Maybe I should try to back that up, but it was my impression as well. Edgefest wrote: Don't think I didn't also notice your controversial usage of an in "an historic." RBIs.
  12. Oliver on; cue approximately 1 hojillion scoreless innings
  13. ESPN's graphic: "Josh Becket"
  14. ="Willets Point"]Can't argue with this part: ]David Wright if Wright doesnt win the MVP this year, it will be OK because he will snag it in the future. One of the players in the game, Wright has been on fire this June to the tune of .371/.429/.775 (1.204 OPS), 10 HR, 29 RBI, 20 R and 3 SB (in 22 games). As much as I hope he doesnt torch the Red Sox, Im excited to see him play live (other than Pujols, hes probably my favorite non-Sox (or former Sox) player in baseball). David is undoubtedly one of the players in the game. And if he isn't, Willie'll have to answer for it.
  15. Wacko thought: If we care enough about the Yankees missing the postseason to root for a Philly/Atlanta/whoever over Yank sweep, then maybe we should root for a Red Sox sweep this week. Weird.

  17. I hitched a ride with my soul by the side of the road Just as the sky turned black I took a walk with my fame down memory lane I never did find my way back You know that I gotta say time's slipping away And what will it hold for me What am I gonna do while I'm looking at you You're standing ignoring me I thought that I heard someone say now There's no time for running away now Hey now! Hey now! Feel no shame 'cause time's no chain Feel no shame The first thing I saw as I walked through the door Was a sign on the wall that read It said you might never know that I want you to know What is written inside of your head And time as it stands won't be held in my hands Or living inside of my skin And as it fell from the sky, I asked myself why Can I never let anyone in? I thought that I heard someone say now There's no time for running away now Hey now! Hey now! Feel no shame 'cause time's no chain Feel no shame I hitched a ride with my soul by the side of the road Just as the sky turned black I took a walk with my fame down memory lane I never did find my way back You know that I gotta say time's slipping away And what will it hold for me What am I gonna do while I'm looking at you You're standing ignoring me I thought that I heard someone say now There's no time for running away now Hey now! Johnny Dickshot wrote: I'm not into Wagner and haven't been from the start, at least as contract $$ and draft picks surrendered went, and although this prolly puts my FEEEEEEELINGS out there a little bit, he doesn't appear to actually be a member of the team, in that they've set it up so that there's 24 guys essentially working together FOR him, and he's the one guy who offers nothing up until the point he's asked to the job. Truly, this Met team is a, forgive my Metmetism, a TEAM and he's not. I don't really get this. Isn't this true of all closers?
  19. TransMonk wrote: In '86 they had Carter, Hernandez, Straw and Doc. I'm assuming that's the most. OE: It is the most. '86 is also the high mark for total Mets selections at 5, since El Sid made the team.

Since the official May 21 low-water mark of 11-31 (following 7 straight losses to the craptastic Braves and surging D-Rays), they're a blazing 18-6, posting sweeps of the Braves and Blue Jays (aggregate score: 28-12) at home last week to extend an 8-game winning streak. A road sweep in the Rockies, series win in San Diego, and a home sweep of the hapless Cubs all have contributed to the streak. They've only dropped two series, in Flushing and at Alexander Graham Park, over the span where they pulled nearly even in RS/RA. We'll root for Bawlmer to filet the Fish like they did us, and for the Mystique and Aura to overwhelm 'em later this week. Sundries * NYM Pythagorean record: 40-28. * Officially #1 in the NL in RS-RA difference, #2 in runs scored to the somewhat-surprising Dodgers, and #3 in runs allowed to the Pads and the Cards. * The NL East is the run-scoringest division, on average, in the league. We trail all 3 AL divisions in this respect. Series starting today Cincinnati (Arroyo, Ramirez, Mays, Milton) at N.Y. Mets (Duque, Trax, Alay, Pedro) (4 games) Washington (Armas, Hernandez, Hill) at Boston (Snyder, Wakefield, Lester) MFY (Eunuch, Mussina, Wright) at Philadelphia (Myers, Lidle, Hamels) Starting tomorrow Florida (Willis, Nolasco, Olsen) at Baltimore (Cabrera, Bedard, Benson) Toronto (Towers, Lilly, Burnett) at Atlanta (Sosa, Hudson, Ramirez) Friday's Washington (Patterson, Ortiz, Armas) at Baltimore (Lopez, Loewen, Cabrera) Philadelphia (Madson, Myers, Lidle) at Boston (Beckett, Schilling, Wakefield) Florida (Moehler, Johnson, Willis) at MFY (Chacon, Wang, Unit) Mets (Glavine, Duque, Traxel) at Toronto (Halladay, Taubenheim, Towers) Atlanta (Smoltz, Thomson, Sosa) at Tampa Bay (Kazmir, McClung, Hendrickson)
  22. I was Don Florence awhile back, and his UMDB comments page claimed he held the Met career record for the most wins without a loss at 3-0. I was able to verify that through the MLB.com stats. However, Don's no more, thanks to the 2006 Mets bullpen: PitcherWLDuaner Sanchez40Darren Oliver30Billy Wagner30 Let's hope it ain't temporary.
