Look, I understand that neither Bastardo nor De Aza are going to be fan favorites around here, but we're starting to turn those two into all-purpose punching bags anytime they're not chained to the bench whether they were the problem that day or not. I'm not opposed to chaining De Aza to the bench.

  3. TC threw in the towel when he put Bastardo on the mound. And Collins should have had that play at the plate reviewed, not that it would have mattered much if we don't plate some runs.
  4. 84? Wow, I forgot about that Gagne dude. That'll be a tough one to reach. But watch out Gordon & Valverde! Fammy's coming to get you. Does Sandy not want to admit a mistake so he keeps de Aza on the team? Oh, de Aza, how you de Sucka at hitting de baseballa. De Aza is starting to effect my health and well being. RENE FUCKING RIVERA! Of course the day I support him he shits behind the plate. I was pissed. But baseball is wonderful! He made up for it. Did u see the backhand on the 1st wild pitch? Is he learning that from lil'd? The one where he threw it away, he played that perfectly and it still bounced up and hit high on his chest. And of course, why did he throw it? The guys hands were already on 3rd. But it all worked out. I enjoy it when a player fucks up and then redeems himself. Oh, Jose, let that shit roll foul. I went a little ballistic when he gloved that ball. I like the aggressiveness. He'll learn. He redeemed himself with the DP. Reyes whipped that ball to Walker and have you ever seen any of our second baseman pull such a blazing fast pivot & throw. Loney made the short hop look easy (it kinda was tho), but how many plays tonight did Loney pull off that Doo Doo wouldn't even have had a chance? John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: im farting with fearThat was so awesome that I never ever want to see it again!! lol x2. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Humdinger of a game tonight It really was.
  6. Well, I guess we shall see. Grandy(LF), Lagares/Conforto (CF) & Cespedes (RF) would be my fantasy outfield. And if those two gel in center (regardless of who plays right), we are going places.
  7. My local paper, which rarely runs articles dealing with the Mets, has an piece with the headline: CONFORTO READY TO TRY CENTERFIELD. I haven't made the rounds to read any online sports yet. Anyone see anything similar?
  8. Edgy MD wrote: It's the only way to keep the four productive outfielders in action. If you can't physically move Cspedes to right, this is the best alternative. Conforto has four games of professional experience in right, but his mom was a swimmer, so don't expect him to sink, or something. Conforto did play some center, although not since he went pro. What's this game doing on ESPN? SNY isn't blocked so I guess I really don't care.
  9. We took a crack at this in January: Write Mike Piazza's HOF plaque I miss all the fun stuff
  10. Ceetar wrote: Zvon wrote: Who did the wording? "Perhaps.." At first I was like WHA? "perhaps?".. , but then on double thought that's very much something they would do on a plaque. I like it. I wrote and photoshopped that after his first rejection, 2013. I wouldn't expect it to be on his real plaque. That's a great piece of work you did there.
  11. I just bought it and I am very disappointed with myself. Seriously. I have to stick to my guns with this. It's my own personal protest. If everyone did the same thing and stopped buying them at $9.99, that price would go down, or at least I'd like to think it would. All I can do is my part. The Bart: Got it because it was such a great Mets moment, also Metropolitan historical & MLB history. The Wright: I didn't want to say this then, but we may as well face the possibility, this could be one of Wright last baseball cards and it will be (super?) rare by design. The deGrom: I got back into baseball cards (always bought a few packs but started buying blisters and such) around 2012. Like with Gooden in the 1984, Matt Harvey's rook card drew me back in. So I was able to collect all these new Mets rook pitchers cards. deGrom, Thor, Matz, Wheeler, & Harvey. I have started a nice collection for each. I won't get obsessive. Can't afford to. If I get the Topps parallel or the real rare/expensive black border version in a pack, great. But I won't go crazy. I'm interested in the players base set rookie, anything else is gravy. So I got the deGrom because it was a HUGE personal milestone for him to pitch a complete game and it will be the gem of my deGrom collection. At least until he pitches his no-no. OE: ^apparently I'm trying to justify these purchases to myself. Next time I talk about a ToppsNOW card yell at me and tell me to stick to my guns!
  12. Frayed Knot wrote: I'd like to know what's behind this RF-aphobia he seems to have. He pulled the same thing in Boston so it's not like this is either new or some sort of age deference thing towards Granderson. The idea that there's such a vast gulf between the two to the point where it makes one not only preferable but the other a complete non-starter as a topic completely baffles me, particularly since he obviously has no problem switching back and forth between left and center. It would be nice if any off-season discussions about extensions would start with the provision that they'd want him in RF going forward, but that would be a tough thing to go to the mat over if it means forgoing the bat. And, no, I don't think any amount of training is going to turn Conforto into anything more than an occasional fill-in in CF Arm porn, lol. Occasional? So you don't even peg Conforto as a starter? Or do you mean he starts most in left and sometimes spells relief in center?
  13. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: They need to play Cespedes in right field probably, the trick is to make them think it's his idea. Exactly! I would tell him that he really isn't showing us his potential until he shows us a throw from right field to 3rd. If he has the best arm in the game he should be making the hardest and farthest throws in the game. I'll show him clips of Clemente, Dave Parker, Puig(?) making those amazing throws from RF. Also, is it just me or does Cespedes kinda loaf on base hits and near gappers, seemingy trying to entice the player to try for the extra base, and then gun 'em down.
  14. Frayed Knot wrote: Not only is working out Conforto for two weeks in CF not going to turn him into a CF but I don't believe working him out there for two years would either. You might have a point. So you are convinced Conforto couldn't handle CF no matter how much preparation?
  15. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Grandyman in center. I'm OK with this if it supports the lineup that scores. Oh, and I might sat Walker for Flores, and sat Rivera for dArnaud. If Thor don't come up with a way to hold runners close TC will lean towards Rivera, I figure. I also would have liked to have seen Wilmer in the lineup tonight. So Lags is back to riding the pine? I don't see him platooning w/Conforto in right. So they will be playing musical OF'rs as opposed to a straight up position platoon?
  16. TransMonk wrote: Little Cubs fan switches baseballs before throwing back Mets HR ball I alluded to that earlier in the IGT. I think the ball-switching is weak. Either you make a statement by throwing the actual HR ball back, or save it and try to Ebay it or whatever. The kids a true Cub fan. He was gonna throw the real ball back.
  17. Who's the creepy face? I think that's old Roy McMillan. OE: His corresponding # & position are highlighted on the scoreboard. With glasses: This is an unreleased mfc card- I used this photo for his '66 card.Benjamin Grimm wrote: I always remember there being a Mets logo where that "creepy face" is. But I do recall hearing that it was originally intended to be an early version of Diamond Vision but it didn't work out. I wonder when they gave up on that experiment? I first started watching the Mets in 1971 and by then the Mets logo was definitely in place. They showed a still shot of the batter via a rear projection slide machine, & that was still up there in 1972. Inside the "logo box" it was a small room, walls and surface old and rusty, although the slide machine didn't look all that bad. I found a headset in there, an old TV type with a mic attached. It only covered one ear and the part that rested on your head stopped short of the other ear. The mic was movable and swiveled to a position in front of your mouth. Cripes, I should just google a pic. Almost exactly like this one^ I took that home with me. It didn't work. IIRC the plug/jack chord had been cut short. But I still treasured it for a short time.
  18. Oh maaan, those bastages! I have a deGrom card collection in the works and, ugh, I really want this. Don't wanna support this shit tho, these prices they charge. Gah! I was hoping the time already expired. 16 hours left. ugh, this is going to torture me for 15 hours and 55 minutes.
  19. Who did the wording? "Perhaps.." At first I was like WHA? "perhaps?".. , but then on double thought that's very much something they would do on a plaque. I like it.

  21. I had a conversation with bro #2 (I'll start to number them-#2 is closest in age at 4 years younger, the twins will be 3 & 4, 8 years younger) and I pointed out how Cespedes has been catered to. He is of the mind that the Mets should just tell him, you got center. That's what we got him for. Thirty or so years ago I would have agreed with him, and still kinda lean that way, but these days do you do that with your marque player? #2's response to that was fuck him, he'll be gone next season. I don't know that I agree with that either. Yoenis is kind of a wild card and he may decide to stay. I don't think the bucks are his major motivation. My bonus response is I'd love to see him playing right. That doesn't solve our "problem" unless Lags and Conforto can platoon in center. If Conforto didn't work out at all in center this last stint down I think it would be expecting a lot from him. And if the Mets didn't have him work out a bit in center while in Vegas, they are not thinking ahead.
  22. Oh, it's the 9th. GAH!
  23. BTW, we are definitely going to comeback. Come ooon, we pwn these guys.
  24. Frayed Knot wrote: Zvon wrote: Oh, you guys are talking about the outta town sections? I wasn't quite following , I didn't hear what Gary said. Gary & Ron were talking about Wrigley's scoreboard which still lists pitchers by numbers 1 through whatever based on an alphabetical list. And Gary mentioned they used to do that at Yanqui stadium back in the day but never did so at Shea. That shocked me because Gary remembers 10x more about that era Mets than I do yet I was sure that he was wrong. And I found another photo from as late as 1969 where the system was still in use but I can't get it to transfer here. Thanks. Interesting info. I hate to admit it but I don't think I ever noticed that they had a line for the pitcher like that. I know the useless stuff like THROWING OF OBJECTS IS PROHIBITED. I was aware of the little ump section. That was pretty kool.
