  1. Big Papi's clutch run is truly incredible. Almost seems like he does it once a week, and indication of how when he does do it it reverberates for quite some time.
  2. I just saw the highlights- and ESPN has to "FLASHBACK" to Looper giving up a walkoff to the Fish. UGH. Cripes--Wagner couldnt have thrown a fatter fastball.
  3. Elster88 wrote: That's a great one Z! Thanks Elster *sob* All for naught- (lol) I got all new KaBOOMs coming up in the second half - esp for players I had been overlooking, like Nady. But this was my best and favorite and I just couldnt wait to use it. Well, I have a Chavez & Milledge up my sleeve. But dont tell anyone................
  4. Excellent pics Edgy. I just made this this past week, and Ill never get to use it. Bummer...........
  5. Elster88 wrote: I don't understand why people say it like that. I say it like that because he is our pitching coach.
  6. Elster88 wrote: Yeah Oswalt on the team would've been pretty damn cool. the guys a freakin bulldog. Cripes, what a day. I expected a move or two but not car crashes and disposable kabooms.

Perez at one time certainly had the stuff to make him a top flight starter. If Peterson can help him find his old form he would be a pleasant stocking stuffer.

  9. Edgy DC wrote: Zvon wrote: Come on---you gotta know if Milledge went in this deal in Nadys place there would have been riots--all hell woulda broke loose. I certainly didn't mean to suggest in any way that Milledge should have or could have been traded for Hernandez or any other replacement for Sanchez. The question we're speaking to is how much, if any, the Mets expect to lose in the outfield in trading Nady. I was actually addressing metirish--tho I couldnt find the original post to see in what context that ("they must think Milledge will be better") was said. I hear what your saying--thats exactly what this is- a calculated risk.
  10. Edgy DC wrote: metirish wrote: they must think Milledge will be better It strikes me more like a calculated risk. He might be better, might not, and Robo in the pen is worth that risk. To them. Come on---you gotta know if Milledge went in this deal in Nadys place there would have been riots--all hell woulda broke loose. Milledge in a deal for Oswalt or Willis, or some other top notch starting arm that could help now and for the next few years, okay. But not in this deal. I think Nadys average numbers and sometimes awkward looking right field work made him the odd man out in Omars eyes. And because he hasnt been here all that long. But we all know Nady popped some very big and important homers this season. Im sure my memory is biased, but as far as I recall every homer he hit was a needed shot at the time.
  11. RealityChuck wrote: It's giving up too much for too little. Hernandez may be OK for another year, but Nady could have been set for awhile. Also, the team now has to resign Cliff Floyd for next year. Augggh- I hear ya. Couldnt we have sent Woody and some minor leaguer (s)? Or even Woody straight up for Hernandez........ Another lopsided deal that favors the Pirates, IMO, but less effect on the MLB squad.
  12. No matter the Nady deal - if a 100% Sanchez can return before seasons end, Ill be happy about that.
  13. Johnny Dickshot wrote: Nady wasn't a great defender. One stahead suggested Chavez so far has added as much value playing the postion defensively to make up for Nady's considerable offensive advantage, tho that assumes those levels, particularly Chavez' O, stay constant. I dont mind seeing what Chavez can do on an everyday basis. And I personally absolutely think he should get that starting role for now, and Milledge should take Chavez's bench role, and see how that goes.
  14. metirish wrote: ] And if it wasnt for this accident, the Nady trade doesnt happen-- Omar indicated that's not true,he was looking at Bert anyway..that's probably BS though. He may have been looking at Berto, but you can bet this tipped the scales as far as making a move goes.
  15. I think this deal could have been done with less impact on the starting lineup---that is to say it could have been done for less than Nady. The Sanchez accident effects our bullpen and this trade effects our bench. Both have been great for us. Both are now changed. I dont totally hate this trade- We all know that Hernandez can be a very effective guy out of the pen. I know that Perez has the arm to be an excellent pitcher. He can bring it. But I think Omar could have pulled it off with less of a ripple effect on the team at the MLB level.
  16. To me- this is devistating news. A major bump in our road. And if it wasnt for this accident, the Nady trade doesnt happen-- It was shocking enough to hear of the accident, but then to hear Nady goes to Pittsburg for the quick fix- ugh. If Hernandez can give us what he did in 2005 - that would be a good thing. Maybe he can........ And Perez was one of the best new young arms to come up afew seasons ago, but he has gone down hill from there, for reasons no one can seem to figure out. Maybe Peterson figures it out.

  18. Edgy DC wrote: Maybe if the Phils had hung onto Schilling and made a franchise player out of him, the two championships he's since been a part of might have been Philly championships. I doubt it, but they've sure seem to have had less pitching than they thought they did. I dont doubt it. And dont bring that up to a Philly fan unless you want to hear a person cry.
  19. ....ask me again 4:01 tomorrow afternoon. And like FK says- at playoff time.
  20. soupcan wrote: ="Edgy DC"]Basically, anybody who has booed Beltran should really be wearing an apologetic tee-shirt by now... Oh please. It's you guys (and Beltran) who should be thanking us boo-birds for shaming him into having the knd of year he's having! lol--now thats comedy.
  21. Woodys got wood---as in a good bat. Good 'nuff. For a guy who can fill in at any position, he's fine.
  22. metirish wrote: John Kruk thinks Sheffield should move to first base. I saw this-but like they said on BB2Nite I think they are gonna have a problem with Sheffield over this. Unless he is true to his word and really only wants to be a Yankee no matter what. This is gonna be interesting.
  23. So the Skanks get Abreu. This is big news round here. Id have rather seen Burrell go to the A.L. And I think he's a weaker link for the Phils--but Abreus the one everyone wanted. The Phillies get left-hander Matt Smith and Class A shortstop C.J. Henry -- a first-round draft pick in 2005. They also landed rookie league catcher Jesus Sanchez and right-hander Carlos Monasterios. This may end up being an excellent move by the Phils, sometime down the line. I imagine Charlie Manuel will get the axe soon.

  25. And this: Beltran, Mets tie records for grand slams in month ATLANTA (AP) -Mets center fielder Carlos Beltran tied a major league record Sunday with his third grand slam this month. Beltran's second-inning slam was his 31st homer and New York's record-tying sixth slam this month. The drive gave the Mets a 7-0 lead and broke the club record for most homers by a center fielder in a season. Beltran came up in the third with the bases loaded again and struck out. Beltran added his 32nd homer in the fifth inning for his fourth multihomer game of the season. Beltran became the ninth player in major league history to hit three grand slams in a calendar month, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. Devon White was the last major leaguer to accomplish the feat, doing it for Milwaukee in May 2001. The Mets' six slams this month matches the major league record set by the Montreal Expos in April 1996 and matched by Cleveland in May 1999. Mike Cameron's 30 homers in 2004 was the Mets' previous single-season record for a center fielder.
