  2. So far this World Series has been about as exciting as viewing hieroglyphical porn.

Mays would be in the top 10 probably. lol--I was so excited about Star Wars I drove up to north Jersey to see it because it was still a week until it was to premiere down where I lived. Man, in those days south Jersey was really the stix. Man, has it grown.
  4. Edgy DC wrote: D'ye' think Hahn would've had it? The downside of World Series day games is the most legendary centefielder of the century has to fight the sun like a mortal. Hahn might have, but your point is well made. If I remember right Willie got a bad jump on the ball-either froze or went back a step. Took not the most direct route and lunged feutally at it. I just remember the sinking feeling I had when the ball got by him. Still, no one else I would have rather had out there. It was Willie Mays.
  5. Elster88 wrote: You guys saw Willie Mays play? You're old. lol (@Dempsy) Yes, i saw Willie play, and if that makes me old then Im one happy old coot. I even walked/jumped along side him on his way from the Diamond Club entrance to his pink car. He always parked it right out there. Tags read SAYHEY.
  6. I ran into it first time in 2002, I guess. Bookmarked it 1st thing. Maybe even prior to that by a bit, but used it alot while researching for that 25th anniversary Met card set in 2002. Probly already had it bookmarked by then. Thats when I ran into all these sites-UMDB, Cranpool Forum(must hv been the old one-looked different), Mr Whithams great photos, and Mets By The Numbers ( I think I made an entry at the UMDB under Tommie Agees Met memories. Never could find it afterwards tho.
  7. I loved Willie. I was so thrilled he came back to play in NY with the Mets. It really cemented my love for the Mets because now here was Willie in blue and orange-a living legend( to me the best player to ever play the game, bar none). And I wanted him out there in '73, to play for the Mets in the '73 World Series his last year, the final games of his awsum career. But.......in game 7 of the October Classic vs. the A's, if Mays makes this catch (pictured below)- things may have turned out quite differently. When he missed that, I wasnt pissed. I was sad. That was a Willie catch to make on the big stage. Afew short years earlier, he makes that grab. Pictures from CORBIS- edited into one picture by me, Zvon, afew years ago. I have a great Mays/Met collection of photos. If anyones interested Ill post some, but Id need to see interest because Ill have to support them myself. I know I must be nearing the end of my space at Photobucket. Both accounts, lol. Id really like to share em tho--twist my arm and Ill post em.
  8. They just showed Delgado accepting the award before the game. His hand, post surgery, all wrapped up like a mummy.

  10. This is an amazing fact. We held Pujols to 1 HR and 1 RBI the whole series. Ugh.
  11. seawolf17 wrote: A world without the UMDB is a world that I don't want to live in. I second that emotion.
  12. Yea- it wont load. I wouldnt draw Mets in blue hats. Id photoshop em. Yance made it clear he's not interested in that a long time ago. Yance, you should give Val a medal or something, at least for his efforts. Rogers too.
  13. Is that Fox field announcer a gnome or something? Is there anyone he doesnt look up to? Give the guy a shoebox or something.
  14. This "clump of dirt " crap looks like its gonna be a bigger story than expected. Now LaRussa has had to defend his lack of investigatory tactics. Possible desention in the Cards locker room over this? Who really knows, but the press would like to write it up that way. This is the same manager who halted the NLCS for much lesser reasons. And Rogers, the way he's been pitching,......I wouldnt be surprised at all if he sprayed his hands with Fixatif (a spray artists use to spray and fix pencil drawings so they are preserved) before his every outing. Hey.... at least its getting interesting.............
  15. Frayed Knot wrote: ........ so that Cliff being mostly unavailable for the playoffs was pretty much a good thing for the Mets. Not so. No matter how you slice it. (Im not responding to u, FK, just talkin out loud in re: that BP statement) He took up a valuable NLCS roster spot that we could have put to better use. I was all for Cliff being on the NLCS roster, when it was established he could play, but, being that he disabled himself again in such a way that proved he was far from being okay or healed, I was wrong in letting my sentiments get in the way. I think Mets managment and medical are guilty of the same thing. They gambled that Floyd would hold up--he not only didnt but went down 1st game of the series, 2nd inning, on a routine flyout. Whats that tell ya? Tells me: bad gamble. Sure, if Cliff comes up in game 7 and hits a limpoff series winning homer, it plays out great, but he didnt and it didnt. Cliff hurt us in the playoffs---unintentionally, Im sure, just by limping along with the team. As far as next season. Endy off the bench no matter who plays left. Chavez is a great filler. Too light a bat to be a regular. Floyd? So much is stacked against him now.... Do we take a chance like we did in the NLCS by having him tag along for 2007? Even if he comes to camp healthy and hits... Sadly, no. Bad gamble. Floyd has shown me alot and gained my utmost respect as a ballplayer, as a Met. But we need more out of that spot than he can give us, Im afraid. If there was some way to assure me he'd do what he did in 2005, Id go with him. But there isnt, and I say it was a pleasure to see you play, Cliff. Good luck wherever you go.
  16. What alien race kidnapped Kenny Rogers and replaced him with this animated clone/guy who no one can figure out?
  17. lmao-- those are great coob and JD.
  18. SteveJRogers wrote: BTW Timmy, Ivan's HOF-ness diminished with his "power" ..and his steroidness. Well, that was boring and sucked. Cards tame the Tiggers in game one, 7-2.
  19. Willets Point wrote: Apparently, it wasn't that the Mets offense that was failing but that the Cardinals pitching made a deal with the devil. I hope they did. Cause next season there WILL be hell to pay. Lets see-.....!!!--7-1? 7th? Cards? Whats all this then?
  20. Tim Mac on Leyland: "You can disagree with pitching to Pujols but you cant disagree with his honesty." HA! Paaaaaleese Timmy. Spare me. And make sense, will ya?

  22. The Ugly Duncan drives in run #2 for St Lou. And Pujols goes yard. Wow. They coulda walked him.Yow. 4-1 Cards
