  1. Was that Fred Wilpon behind the cage during the 'bunting practice' clip?
  2. A tap out by Wilmer. Oh yea, happy birthday rook. In the very least you are now part of Met trivia.
  3. Hey, that was a good piece of hitting by Ike. Don't deny it. Laggy drives in 2 with a TriBOOM!
  4. The C was lost in the wash and I have to credit DGW somehow (without detracting from the composition), so his initials can be seen on the side of first base if you look really, really hard.
  5. Ha! Fowler sucks. Nice play by Buck but if he didn't get that guy as far off as he was he should pull himself from the game, and the position.
  6. From that article: There are recordings called - The Popeye Demos. These are of Harry singing (I assume) the songs he wrote for the Popeye flick in 1980. I always thought these were good Harry type songs and to hear him sing them should either back that up or shoot it down. I am trying to track these tracks down because they are not included in the box set. No luck so far. I did run into a nice copy of the Popeye movie. I'm going to burn that and re-watch it. Havent seen it since I did in the theater in '80. I remember I thought this movie was totally dismal in every way. I also remember thinking that Robin Williams and Ray Walston really had Popeye and Pappy down pat and I thought their performances were wasted. Duval was born to play Olive Oil, lol. Harrys musical soundtrack was very good, but all the songs seemed as dismal as the movie. I have very few memories regarding Popeye The Movie. I'm curious to find out what I think of it in retrospect after viewing it now, over 30 years later.
  7. This is a test. I'd like to share these as "cut outs", in this case transparent .png's. Now to me this border is clear or white in the center area. But when I load it to my pic library the center becomes black. Both white and black center can be used but cut outs are so much faster and easier to work with. I know I can get it transparent going with a .gif file but we'd lose too much quality. I'll eventually figure out the best way to do this. .png______________________________.gif Ha. When I post them here they appear to be transparent. Kool beans.

He didn't sign his Topps contract until 1987. I have a thing like that for Tommie Agee. As a kid I idolized him and I do get a kick out of making custom cards for him, more so than any other player. I only have 60's and 1984-85 Topps & Fleer borders prepared now but I will have to do that for other years for certain players and I will post the templates here asap. I'll get the 80s one up tonight during the game.
  9. So on this card Grote was on deck and it must have been two outs cause hes half geared up. I've seen this card many times and never noticed that. Amazin'.

  11. I'm so sick of this A-Rod business. Todays Daily News has around 12 pages of Skank/A-Roid coverage. 1/2 a page of Mets. Its usually around 6 pages of Skank, 1/3 page Mets.
  12. Wilmer Flores will wear #4 & if he plays tonight will join RHP John Pacella as only players in Mets history to make MLB debut on birthday. Then he must play tonight! Lets start an internet campaign and make some Met history!

I've been wanting to DIY baseball cards for years, but I have no idea how to use Photoshop. I don't even own a version. I've been making "cut outs" of baseball card borders to do this stuff. Basically different year Topps cards without a picture or player name. All are for Mets cards. I'll be glad to make these available if you want to experiment in a photo or art program. IIRC even MS paint can be used for cut and pastes and even applying fonts. The time consuming part is preparing the borders for use. Once I do all that I have what could be called a baseball card kit where you just swap parts in and out. I'll share this base stuff with anyone who wants to have some fun with card making. And it is fun.
  14. Correct. I thought this would be a difficult question. :/
  15. DOH! But this is why I run it past you guys. Helps get it right. I shall recreate my missing post: Ha! Peter Lorre is kool. I would think someone noticed the font business on the Davis card before, but who knows. For now I'm gonna say it's our discovery. Working on a mock Met rookie card and came across this. Name this Met:
  16. batmagadanleadoff wrote: Keith in a Met uniform looks great in any setting. But double-check your space-time continuum on that mock '85 Fleer. Cause of the "C"? I just made a post and hit send and everything looked like it worked right but the post is not here. Hmm.
  17. So if what we were seeing is Valde on steroids he must really suck w/o em.
  18. batmagadanleadoff wrote: Zvon wrote: That's some card! Amazin'! Agee's last Met card as an active player! I predict that your mock '72 IA will make the cyber rounds, and in time, some blogger will pick it up and then complain that Topps doctored up a Agee's '72 Mets IA card and then recycled it as his '73 Astro card. Thank you and that would be pretty kool although not a goal of mine. Its already pretty confusing at times with all the remade hobby cards out there from fans as well as Topps (actually I'm a bit surprised Topps allows fans to do this). Like I can't say for sure that the Tommy Davis is a real card, all because of those "M"s. The font used there is very similar to the font used for the 1972 Topps Boyhood Pictures Of The Stars which I do believe was different than the In Action cards. Here's a Harvey version of one of those cards. The font his name is in is the closest I could come to that actual font. I must ask DGW for permission to use his photos in my adventures in fantasy Met baseball cards. One of my fav all times sets is the 85 Fleer and look how super kool his Hernandez photo is in that border.
  19. There ya go, with the Murcer M's. I like how this came out. And thnx batmags for the suggestion, because I was always a huge fan of the 72IA cards and was disappointed that Agee didn't get one that year. I have to say I had one of those "oh wow cool!" moments you'd get as a kid when opening a pack and seeing a hot card after I laid this one out. This card was meant to be and thnx to batmags, it now is. Talk about an "oh wow! cool!" moment- when I saw this card at Cards That Never Were it was the closest I've come to the wow factor I'd get as a kid. Seeing this card is what got me all fired up and into the remaking of the 70 world series cards. That guy has a lot of amazin cards but this one blew me away. I've done something like this before, with that Met Set I made in 2002. Actually doing baseball cards is what got me started with adventures in graphics (well, that and a strong desire to see Gillian Anderson naked). Much of the B&W/colorization work was done back then. I made them '71 Topps like because I loved that set. I think remaking them into "updated" 70 WS cards is going to look a lot kooler.
  20. batmagadanleadoff wrote: Zvon wrote: Oh yea, the Agee card. I need to find a sideways '72 in action border. It's even got the first four letters of Agee's first name. kool, ty. I found a higher rez Bobby Murcer to work from. I have learned the bigger the better with these things. Almost done the Agee. The proper font is presenting a challenge. Also a discrepancy. All the letter "M"s I see on the action cards look like the one below. Tommy Davis has different "M"s. Looking at other cards they look like upside down "W"s. I've already started the work based on the Murcer "M", which is like the one below. I'm looking and as far as I can see those "M"s were only used on Tommy Davis's card. I'm like 90% sure that the Davis card is an actual Topps card and not a mock-up. I could be wrong.
  21. Wow. Excellent work . I see those cards and I get all: Oh yea, the Agee card. I need to find a sideways '72 in action border.
  22. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: As always, amazing cards! I love the Andrew Brown one best. My sentiments exactly. You got the fading pink letttering perfect. Me three. More cards for my Grimm set.
  23. Wow. Great article. I'll have that boxed set soon and I'll be back with a review.
