  3. What a great game. I had company. And I found out the main TV is getting a free preview of SNY. It's at least 3 pitches faster, sometimes minutes ahead of MLBtv. I don't think it's always that way. DUDA puts his power where Collins mouth is! Those were blasts. Lannan: UGH, guy, u suck. Surprisingly pleased with what I saw from Farnsworth. Mejia FTW! V FTS! I knew they'd win eventually. Good game. Duda is the man. Couldn't have been scripted better from that angle.
  4. Whew, that looked like it had to hurt but he's okay. Mejia has confidence in that slider. Ugh, ball 4 was in there. Maybe. No shift can contain Bruce. 1-0 Reds
  5. Nice play 'd! Shit. Ground ball hit Mejia in the ankle.
  6. 5 Ks in 2 innings. Nice. I'm still not a fan of the orange bill.
  7. Gah. Lags rips one to right but Bruce tracks it down.
  8. ^lol. Nice at bat Duds. Draws a walk to load em. Lagares.
  9. He even stumbled a bit there. What a grab. Endylike.
  10. WHOA! Wow! So much for Mejias movement. Phillips smacks one out but EYjr says NOOOOO and brings it back in. Freakin nice catch.
  11. OOO, Mejia with a wicked slider tonight. Oh.. PLAYBALL! andallAdat

The Daily News would traditionally run a Mets (and Yankees) Spring Preview/Early Season photo spread in their Sunday News Magazine up until the very early '70's. Those magazines were sometime called "colorotos", which, I think, described the coloring process used back then. I have most of those DN Sunday mags that featured the Mets. Well get scanning man! These rare Met innerweb images don't scan themselves. Colorotos. I've never heard of that but it does sound like it would be the name an early color process. Most interesting. Edgy MD wrote: The league felt so bad about how bad the expansion pool was for the Colts and Mets, they arranged a second mini-expansion draft following the 1963 season. Each of the other teams were to put four players into a pool, from which New York and Houston could select up to eight, paying the other team 30,000. It was, of course, another disastrous pool of talent, and if served anybody, it served the established teams by offering them a way to get 30,000 for their worst players. The future Astros made only one selection and the Mets two --- starting pitcher Fat Jack Fisher and west coast slugger Haas. Haas was hampered by the reality of batting outside of the desert and an inability to field. For a team in between Marv Throneberry and Dick Stuart, the latter issue was somehow a concern, so they farmed him out and found out quickly that his numbers in northeastern locations didn't reflect in any way those he put up in the southwest, and he never made the big squad. I think they really hoped he'd be the steal of the draft. Amazin' info. thank you Ed.
  13. I'm almost as pumped as Ceets. MEJIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. Bill Haas, whoever he is. From the New York Sunday News, 4/26/64.
  15. I don't buy this "its the managers fault they aren't fired up" bullshit. I'll make a judgment after June 2.
  16. Murphy .4 Wright .2 Granderson 3 Lagares 1 Wheeler 2 Germen .3
  17. I can't believe this is an issue for some folks. It's one of the most important moments in the young mans life. Of course he should be with his wife at this (that) time. So it was inconvenient for the team. That's the way the ball bounces. Tough shit. I doubt Collins was annoyed with Danny. More so the circumstances, or fate. People can be such assholes.

(He's not saying who yet; probably wants to talk to the players before he says anything to the press.) So who will it be? Who do you hope it is? I find myself thinking it will be Duda. I don't think I'm rooting for one or the other, but I am curious. Right or wrong, I dunno, but it'll be Duda.
  19. Ceetar wrote: Benjamin Grimm wrote: True. But they do look awful. I don't think it will be this bad throughout the season, but it's definitely a very bad start. David Wright is still awesome. Juan Lagares is looking like he might actually hit. Zack Wheeler got through an inning against a strong lineup beyond his tiring point. Good to see. Colon and Gee both pitched reasonably well. Tejada so far looks like he's at least shaken some of the yips he had last year and is hitting the ball. Granderson is a talented player and two+ doubles today bode well. The bullpen has been pretty bad, but there are some talented arms in there and some of the other guys will be replaced by other talented arms (like Walters, deGrom) down the line. There legitimately IS potential there. I mean, I'm pissed and frustrated and all but I'm certainly not down on Mets baseball. There's still going to be a lot of fun to be had. As the life long Mets fan that I plan to be, this season might be a ride I'm not gonna enjoy but I'm belted in. Hoping for the best, prepared for the worst. I'm always that way at the start. Last season had a lot of worsts. This start is one of those things I'm prepared for. SWEPT! Agree with all except Mr.T. He's hitting a bit, yes, but still playing with his head up his ass. It's getting old.
  20. That almost makes up for it. Nice diving play by Duds. The short hop grounder was excusable, but the short hop on the blown DP was Doodable. Well, so much for the pen keeping us close.
  21. Gah, tough hop but come on Duda. 7-2 them.
  22. That should be it for Zack. Decent outing. He kept us in the game. Can the pen continue that this time? Please? Stay tuned.
  23. burp. OE:OE: Stale Doodoo
