  3. Is the middle Sox -- No. 24 -- Ken Henderson? I believe it is. With Bob Shaw and Arty Howe. Bob Shaw now: http://www.snipview.com/q/Bob_Shaw_%28baseball%29

Who am I"? "I shagged fly balls alongside Nelson Briles and Skip Lockwood". I once appeared in an All-Star Game. I pitched an entire inning without giving up a run and struck out the only future Hall of Famer I faced. Wayne Twitchell

They're awfully close and only on the first base side. Neither one of those are on-deck circles. They were, in effect, on-deck mounds. They're not raised obviously, but hurlers would use those back in the day to throw to a plate that was near the backstop as a pre-game warmup. I guess they were considered preferable to the bullpen for whatever reason. There's one on the 3rd base side also. Not quite sure why there are two on the 1st base side (in addition to the batter's circles). I never heard this before. I do have a pic of Warren Spahn warming up on one, or more than likely posing on one (at Shea). It was my belief that 2 of the circles were used for a pre-game workout. Coaches hitting fungos to left and right field would stand in the circles up the baselines. And sometimes one would be used to hit fungos to outfielders, and the other one hitting groundballs to infielders (the one circle that is closest to home might only be for infield fungos-other two outfield). I don't know this for a fact but I figure coaches wore the grass out in the spots they would fungo from over the years, and eventually they decided to just create a small area w/no grass for him to hit from.

  12. Pretty sure there is no color footage of Jackie stealing home in 55. That certainly could be the Polo Grounds though. This is weird because the pitcher looks like the films running backwards.
  13. If he manually hand wrote individual letters to every fan of baseball, numbered & signed, I might forgive him.
  14. batmagadanleadoff wrote: batmagadanleadoff wrote: Some mad posing action on the diamond at Butterball Field. Roger Craig practices his pitching poses for the photographer behind him. Could that be The Man From Topps himself about to shoot an unidentified Met on the dirt infield? I forgot. Who am I? Me. The guy on the infield dirt with a bat in his hands just behind Roger. That's a tough one. Such a blurry image. I'd really have to take a shot in the dark.
  15. In 1980, Lee Mazzilli led the Mets in games played both at first base and in center field. Nine other Mets also played those positions that season. (Two of them, like Maz, played both first and center. Name the nine. One guess per post. Elliot Maddox!
  16. I assume you just read about Pettite.

  19. And watch. He'll end up doing something big to fuck us during the season. Probably run over Harveys arm. I liked EY. I thought he was misused. But the guy didn't seem to have any "baseball sense".
  20. I'm all over e-bay looking to complete this set: Freakin' awesome. Cept' I wanna play t'ird! defgav from Baseball Card Breakdown gif'd it up: [fimg=200]http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FzA58TGQpMo/VNLqvqZrAdI/AAAAAAAAHP4/TYKNUrZQW6k/s1600/50c1stpitch3.gif[/fimg]

  22. I tried to get a box of 2015 Topps today. I was on the way out to dinner so I only had time to check Target & Walmart. No hobby shops close by anymore. Neither store had em. I grabbed another box of 2014 Topps update that came with 2 packs of Chrome UD. First chrome pack: DING! DING! deGrom chrome rook debut. Second chrome pack: DING! DING! Montero chrome rook. First regular pack: DING! DING! deGrom rook debut. Third reg pack: DING! DING! Quintanilla: The throwing variation. Still have a few packs to open, but I'm very happy with my haul already. Got a chrome Tanaka rook, if anybody cares. Mets Guy in Michigan wrote: I can't figure out what Topps is trying to do with the new designs. What's in the border? Is that supposed to be rocks? Infield dirt? And what's with the white lines around the team logo and in the background under the name? Is that some kind of electronics motif? It was a pain in the ass to reproduce that design for the custom Mets cards. I like the design & I expect to like it better when I see one with my own eyes.
  23. CONTENTION! I wanna hear that performed.

If we are going anywhere in the long or short run, Harvey is key from now until the Wilpons can't afford him. I think we should chip in and get Ed a Mets key ring
  25. Wow. Look at that deGrom. FUTURE STARS. Kool!
