Edgy DC wrote: This isn't the first time Clemens has, after a weak beginning to a post-season start, exited early, pleading a minor injury, rather than toughing it out -- digging the team's bullpen in, but keeping his reputation as a gamer intact. how would this keep such a reputation intact? I would think it would do just the opposite. Yea,...i was pretty surprised that Clemens came up lame, and concerned from a Houston point of view. If he is out for the count just his mound presence will be missed. Good game last night.....good game goin on here. 4-2, Astros have the lead in the 7th and both teams are lookin aggressive. Damn, that Crede guy is playin a hell of a third base for the ChiSox
  2. ="Edgy DC"]]I dont buy this cuz thats exactly the type of manager Ozzie Guillen is. Depending on the angle people are shooting for, that could be exactly the type of manager Willie Randoph is. lol...lets give Willie his 2 more seasons and see if he learns and he grows. If theres no indication of this in 2007 then drop him anytime during that season.
  3. I definately think that Backman should be given the chance, and by the Mets. He knows the game and should be able to at least manage on a minor leaue level and keep his nose clean, and maybe manage an MLB team someday. ]With a bunch of Ivy-League, never-played-the-game, 30-something suits running things behind the scenes with increasing regularity, there's no appreciation for a rough-and-tumble guy who manages as much with his gut as with his brain. I dont buy this cuz thats exactly the type of manager Ozzie Guillen is.
  4. ......dont you think that Bagwell has to be DH? Ill be surprised if he isnt, but it sounded there like its not written in stone.
  5. So its the Astros vs the White Sox in he World Series. Kool. Someones gonna have to win it. Ill enjoy this series. Guess Ill be rootin for the NLstros but I wouldnt mind if the Sox finally did it.
  6. Uh Oh......... 2 out single.... lol....It cant happen.
  7. ...for all i know they may still be adding another tier there,...i dunno. but yea, all the parks are gettin cozy small as opposed to the giant bowls. I like it. Tho Im sure some day people will look back with affection on some of those humongous monstosities. Wow,..Im really surprised Garners goin with Wheeler instead of Lidge. I guess he's pitched alot, but I figured Lidge would be on the mound for the clinch.
  8. So this could be the last game ever at Busch. Look at the diference in sizes between 'ol Busch and their new stadium on the left.
  9. I knew the guy threw heat, but this is rediculous
  10. CARACAS, Venezuela -- Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Ugueth Urbina was questioned and released by police after being accused of assaulting several men after a party at his family's home. Police said the incident occurred early Sunday after a welcome-home party for the Major League Baseball player when a dispute broke out between Urbina and two of his workers over a missing firearm. "Under confusing circumstances, five workers were injured ... one of them suffering back burns and on the right arm," a statement from local investigators said. The incident occurred in the house of Urbina's mother, Maura Villareal, in the town of Ocumare del Tuy, about 40 kilometers (25 miles) south of Caracas. "He hit us, threatened us with machetes, poured gasoline on us and, it was only by chance that he didn't burn us all," said Argenis Farias, one of the five laborers who was hurt in the incident. Though Urbina was released after questioning, the investigation continues. The player was unavailable for immediate comment. It was the second violent incident in a year for the Urbina family. Urbina's mother was kidnapped by drug traffickers in September 2004 and held for $6 million ransom. She was rescued five months later in a mountainous zone in southern Venezuela. Urbina has a 44-49 record with 237 saves and a 3.45 ERA in 11 seasons. He was 4-3 with one save and a 4.13 ERA in his first season with the Phillies, who acquired him in June. 11. so far,....good game from a Houston perspective. Asstros up 3-0 in the 5th. Oswalt is pitchin great so far.
  12. What sucks is if it wasnt for that the Mets wouldnt even be in the news.
  13. Willets Point wrote: Holy fucking shit, you can't script shit like that!!!! 3-run kaboom by Pujols. No you cant WP. That was unfreakinbelievable. Shock and awe. It always occurs to you,'what if', but I still could not believe he did it. Someone said it was like the 88 Scoscia homer, and it MUST have been for Asstros fans. Cuz it sucked the air right out of the room for me. I didnt have that sick feeling in the pit of my stomach tho, like in '88. But Asstros fans did,....you can be sure of that. Unfreakin believeable. I still say Houston takes it and makes it to the big show. You cant dodge two bullets like Oswalt and Clemens. *Z commences crossing his fingers..............

  15. another complete game win for a Sox pitcher,,,thats pretty awsum.

  18. Frayed Knot wrote: And speaking of umps' calls, Posednik just got away with what Cameron couldn't earlier this year. Y'know the one where he catches the ball yet drops it on the transfer even though no further throw/play was in order. No hint of a call from the men in blue nor a mention from those in the booth. That's probably one of those rules that dates back to the day when gloves snagged things only slightly better than kids winter mittens and just has never been taken off the books. I was shocked when that got called this year on Cammy. And now another bad call as I'm typing!!!! Pitcher Escobar tags the runner with his glove as the ball is clearly in his bare hand. He even threw it after the tag as an indication that HE knew it wasn't legit but the 1st base ump doesn't see it. They've now reversed the call after a conference. Scoscia's arguing about it but I think it's more from accumulated frustration more than anything else. yea,...good thing they got together and reversed that call. It was so apparent from a different view than the umps. If they didnt reverse that you would never hear the end of it (from me,lol). Scoscia wasnt nearly as livid as laRussa this afternoon. Id never seen Tony so wide eyed and P.O.'d b4.
  19. ="seawolf17"]Neat stat -- three consecutive CGs by White Sox pitchers in this series... the first time that has happened in the postseason since: October 6, 1973 - Seaver October 7, 1973 - Matlack October 8, 1973 - Koosman Three cards from my MetSet about that playoff series: Collect em all! 20. Frayed Knot wrote: Anyway, on to new games; Angels FINALLY get a call to go their way here in game 6. Adam Kennedy on 1st when Figgins (finally a hit!!) laces a hit-n-run double to RF. A fan (presumably a local LAA fan) reaches over the low wall to snag the bouncing ball which clearly would have stayed in play (I hope stadium security is currently in their 20th minute of beating him under the stands). The umps initially ruled Kennedy to stop at 3rd, until a brief protest from Scoscia and an ump confab led to them awarding him home (he was running on the pitch remember). He likely would have scored anyway as the Halos actually put a few hits together and took a 3-2 lead here as they attempt to stave off elimination. Ive missed alot of this game. Thanks for fillin me in on that^. Crede just tied it with a kaboom in the 7th. Good game here.

  22. ="seawolf17"]And Mabry hits a slow roller in the hole on the right side, but somehow Eric Bruntlett gets to it, and somehow gets it to Adam Everett for one, who somehow gets it over to first to get Mabry -- who apparently must have run into a construction detour or something on the way down the line -- at first for the ol' 4-6-3 game-ending DP. Astros up 3 games to 1 heading into tomorrow. Wow. I really didnt think they could turn that DP. I dont think anyone did. You see the way they jumped around afterward like they won the whole series, lol.
  23. seawolf17 wrote: Phil Cuzzi is slowly going crazy behind the plate. He threw out LaRussa in the bottom of the seventh for arguing balls and strikes, and now he just threw out Edmonds on a bad call on a 3-1 pitch (Cuzzi called it strike 2, Edmonds said something and got tossed). The last time a manager was thrown out of a postseason game was 1999... Jimy Williams, I think. once again an ump plays a bigger role than he should. LaRussa was tossed before he ever left the dugout and Edmunds was tossed without even any physical contact. i guess you cant talk like a man to umps these days..... It was a very interesting argument to watch with LaRussa, when he did come out after getting tossed, cuz the crew chief kept playin a pick on him, so he couldnt even get in the proper words with Cuzzi to make it all seem worthwhile. A good game that becomes soiled by B.S. I wont even get into how bad the strike calls were.......
  24. lmao. .........................but you may be on to something there.
  25. sharpie wrote: While I had announced here that I was for the Astros, last night I found myself pulling for the Cardinals. The Clemens factor, plus the fact that I have a knee-jerk anti-Texas team thing seems to be swaying me. I think I'm now netural. thats perfectly natural when your team is not in it. Emotional tides can turn easily when there is no vested interest. Clemens pitched a fine game today and Houston wins its second game of the NLCS. That was his 32nd post season career start. WOW. He's 12-8. Lidge wasnt perfect in closing but did get it done. It was a good game, 4-3 the final score. The Cards are banged up.....they lost Sanders the other day and lost Nunez today, who has been playing 3rd for the injured Scott Rolin. I would think Sanders will be back before the series is over, and I think the Cards need him in there.
