  1. Was this really printed? Cubs-hating Sox fans? Grow up BY JAY MARIOTTI Sun-Times Columnist I'm asking White Sox fans to do the city a favor. I'd like you to stop picking fights with Cubs fans, stop rooting so bitterly against the Cubs, appreciate your World Series championship and please shut up. Honestly, I think Sox fans might be more passionate about the Cubs losing than when their own team wins. That is weird, bizarre and not cool. When the Sox won two years ago, I don't recall many Cubs fans holding grudges about it. They were mad at their own team and management, an approach that should be adopted by Sox fans who've watched their general manager and manager screw up a good thing. I used to add up the collective years without a World Series title on both sides of town, then use the big, ugly number in columns. If the Sox can break an 88-year drought and the Cubs can end a 99-year drought in a matter of two years, that will the local sports equivalent of coming back from the Great Chicago Fire. I'm not saying Sox fans should be belting out ``Go Cubs Go'' in South Side bars. But don't be vicious haters. There's a lot more to despise in the world than the concept of the Cubs as champions.
  2. The Teds stumbled into the Fridays in leftfield while in AZ a few springs ago. The restaurant is open to the public but you need to buy and reserve tables to eat there during the game (in a separate ticket gig from the D-Bags). Had a nice meal overlooking the field. Grounds crew was struggling to get the grass grown and/or green with a dozen fluorescent lamps scattered about the infield and shallow right field. Pool boys were doing their thing in right field. Friends tell me that since the team usually isn't that exciting for most of the season, Fridays is the way to go to see a game. The bartenders were very generous with the Captain Morgan.
  3. I must admit, David Aldridge, a basketball guy, looked totally lost doing sideline work.
  4. A agree with the graphics, the first base "9 feet" do-hickey can certainly go. The best part of the the TBS coverage is the 6 or 6:30 east coast starting time. TBS doesn't have to worry about network and local programming. They just take it over.
  5. You can't keep a good Kaz down. Sign that mofro up NOW!!
  6. Two of the hottest teams in the NL RIGHT NOW get to battle it out. Should be fun to watch. Go Rox.
  7. Guy Conti, more than a bullpen coach. This Guy can coach anything. "Guy Conti for his service as a faculty member and three-sport coach in the 1970s and 1980s. As head mens basketball coach, he compiled 140 victories with a 59 percent winning mark, third best in school history. Led the squad to nationals and a 24-5 record in 1975-76. Edinboro University's Coach of the Year in 1982. His teams earned five PSAC playoff berths."
  8. When did Joe Smith get tired and sent to NO?

  10. Your saddest moment or era as a Mets fan. Let it out. Talk it over. We need to heal.
  11. Which hurts more, this or Kenny Rogers walking in the winning run?
  12. Other potential questions: For every potential game the Mets lost down the stretch due to Reyes' lack of productivity, how many Mets losses could be attributed to Wright's anemic April? Are the Reyes woes just magnified by the timing in the season. Was Reyes worn down or hurt from trying to reach 85 steals, the number that Ricky put on him with a wager? Did the bugger simply need a few extra days rest after the All Star break? Did opposing pitchers expose a week spot in his swing? Was Reyes more productive with a player with pop in the #2 spot rather than a "prototypical" hitter behind him in the lineup?
  13. I think that sissy dribbler in front of home plate with the bases drunk sealed the walking papers for Paulie.
  14. I will never poke fun at the Cubs again, for obvious reasons. If the Padres win today, they're my pick for the NL witb Peavy, Young, and Maddux heading up the rotation.
  15. I'm glad Fred is optimistic. Key phrase..."SHOULD THE METS PARTICIPATE". The team's play of late is just downright rude. Dear Mets Fan: Thank you for participating in the online random drawing for the opportunity to purchase tickets for potential 2007 Mets postseason games scheduled to be played at Shea Stadium. While your entry was not selected to purchase tickets for potential National League Championship Series games, you do remain registered for random drawings for opportunities to purchase tickets for potential 2007 World Series games scheduled to be played at Shea, should the Mets participate, and for any additional Championship Series drawings. Thank you again for your participation.
  16. Just in from the wine tasting event to catch the final three outs. I'm calling a cab to take me BACK to the bars.
  17. I have to go to a wine tasting event until 8 pm. I hope I'm good and drunk for this game like I shoulda been last night.
  18. Hopefully Alou hasn't spent his COMESHOT load with this hitting streak. He's simply a mean bitch at the plate.
  19. Actually, a Honda Element. But it seemed the same.
  20. Belated as it is, I'm just back off the road. Things I learned from the game: *Edgy is the King of Box Truck driving. *Edgy's GPS system is better than On-Star. *When Edgy says you can get from the Mezz to the box seats in left, no usher is going to stop you, especially if he looks like one of the kids from New Edition. *We saw Darryl Strawberry AND Lenny Dykstra at the game (at least dead ringer throwback jerseys). *The young buck next to us in the Mezz looked like he was dating Meadow Soprano (God, to be 17 again). *Have Edgy tell you great stories about the RFK "Tarp of Fame". *RFK gave the out-of-town scoreboard operator the rest of the season off. *Not only does Edgy feed the homeless, he volunteers hauling Pepsi carts around RFK. *One usher asked the entire front row of the Mezz to pipe down because the players in the Mets bullpen were getting annoyed. Funny thing was, we (like the rest of the stadium) were dead quiet at that point. We presumed it was Sosa narc-ing on the fans, but he gets a pass for the blazing stuff he threw. *To reiterate, Guy Conti is God. In all a good night. Glad we were there to see the Mets stop the bleeding. Edge is the host with the most.
  21. The wife got bored and made me leave after the 7th in this one. I almost divorced her. Really. http://www.leaptoad.com/mets/gamedetail.php?gameno=6321
  22. Here I sit, My ass a'flexin, Giving birth, to another Texan "You tell that son of a bitch no Yankee is ever comin' to Houston. Not as long as you bastards are running things."

I propose an expansion to KeySpan and moving the AAA squad there.
  24. Looks more like a Times Square souvenir hoody. Of course, it looks more MFY than Mets...no orange.
