It seems like a good problem to have though with Tak and Dickey. I heard that Wayne (I think it was Wayne) was talking about this. It's not wrong, but it's certainly not helpful. This is the logic that's been floating around since they acquired him really, about whether he's better in the bullpen, whether he can go deep into games, etc. Sometimes he's efficient and cruises, sometimes he's not. It seems like if teams that see him again, like the Yankees, are going to get more patient, he might not be able to fool them as easily for Ks. Still, if he's not going to give up any runs.. Manuel's had a short leash all season. We were only a couple starts in when he started proclaiming "we'll think about a rotation switch" after every Perez or Maine start. Even if they'd had a good start recently. It's really irrelevant right now. They're pitching well, you keep them. Maine gets another minor league start (Although I'd take an under 1 WHIP and a nearly 9 K/9 from John Maine for sure, even if that projects to him throwing 110 pitches in 6innings. I'm not exactly worrying right now about him throwing too many pitches and ruining his development after all..) and maybe even another after that. If the opportunity in the rotation doesn't open up, put him in the bullpen. If the opportunity doesn't open up I suspect we'll be in first place and padding it by then. I know guys like Lee are awesome and all, but if the starting pitching continues like this, there really isn't room in the rotation for another pitcher, from inside or outside the organization. And you don't overpay in prospects/money for a guy like Lee if you have 5 pitchers pitching well do you?
  3. I've never cared if things were a little "minor league" personally. This seems cool to me, even if I don't really know what I'm going to do with a foam finger..besides of course wear it to Citizen's Bank Park. It's still better than waving (white!) towels during game 7. I'm pretty sure mine is still in whatever corner I threw it when I arrived home.

  6. Doesn't look like there are any. Benitez pitched against Seattle as Met. Against the Yankees as a Met. and then against the Yankees as a Mariner.

  8. Chan Ho pitched last night when Joba and Marte couldn't get outs in the ninth. So the odds are better that he won't pitch, but he seems to be the mop up guy, so i'm hoping we see him.

Don't be too eager to give up on 21 year olds. Just because we Met fans started hearing of him when he was 16 doesn't mean his 21 is the equivalent of someone else's 26. The injuries are frustrating although a good sign is that it's not one recurring problem that portends a chronic condition. Some guys tend to get hurt a lot right up until that point where they don't. what he said. You guys is crazy. The rushed too early and didn't look ready up here soured a lot of people on him. (I know he was a 30 year old career minor leaguer, but wasn't it worth giving Feliciano a look last year rather than rush a prospect that it was very likely wasn't ready?) Growing pains probably play a part, getting used to the wear and tear on baseball on his changing body, building muscle, etc. all those things. I'm not yet worried that Martinez will be an injury prone guy. Hopefully he got the injury out of the way for the year and can play the rest of the season so we can really evaluate his major league readiness. Of course, way too many factors involved there to worry about now. Carter's cool and all, and definitely helping out our AL lineup version, but I imagine he's a guy the Mets would look t o "sell high" on to an AL team after he helps us win a title. Although by then he'll be such a fan favorite (and media favorite)
  11. Jeter's only 46 hits away from the Babe. (Obviously not all as a Yankee) wonder if they make a big deal out of that milestone as well? I just loaded up the hit list. It's odd to see all the annotations+ to indicate Hall of Famer on the list, except the first one.
  12. Don't forget the A-Rod quest towards 800. *vomit*

  14. Totally exploitable team. We can take them, especially as we're hot and they just dropped 2-3 to one of the most inept offenses in the game lately. (What, I cant' be cruel to the Phillies too?) A-Rod has hip tendinitis, which definitely is not related to the surgery that he had early last year that was supposedly going to need a second surgery in the offseason but magically recovered really well (I'm sure he only took it once, he just wanted to get back on the field after all) We're due to hit Vazquez. Our young 9-1 pitcher is better, and it's getting real close to the second half for Johan. Oddly enough, the name of the game may be don't let Cano beat you. Oh, and the stadium has only one year of history, no truly great Hall of Fame players played there (Babe Ruth may have walked by that area once), they aren't too classy for a mascot (they just sucked at it) and their park has little league dimensions. I can see the Mets hitting a ton of home runs this weekend. Also, aggressive play and running on Posada should work. The outfield, although it's played well, is not really that good defensively, especially Swisher. Push the envelope, take the extra base, steal bases (don't bunt when pop flies are home runs), and make them make good plays, because they probably won't.

  16. Knuckleballers are weird: R.A. Dickey holds opponents to a .236 average if his throws ball one, .296 if it's strike one.

  18. I think Paul Lukas is where I got my icon from.

Nice to see Livan Hernandez turning back into a pumpkin. I think we all saw the Livan thing happening. this is the result i wanted. Split series so far. Now tomorrow, while I'd prefer the Phillies win, ideal would be for Rivera to blow it with a 40 pitch ninth inning and then the game goes 22.
