  2. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I'd doubt with the long plane ride, etc that Josejose would play today. seems a reasonable assumption. quote on Metsblog about Reyes. seems like mostly precautionary. Reyes says it's more the side than the back.
  3. Edgy DC wrote: What's the skinny on Reyes? The bit I gleened from various reports last night seems to be that merely a stiff back, he wanted to play, Manuel didn't want him to play, probably be reevaluated today. Suspect he'll take some swings and go from there. Same with Pagan, as per Manuel, except supposedly Pagan will have no chance at playing today. If he feels good in BP, he'll play tomorrow.
  4. Phillies are 9-5 over the last 14 and weren't able to catch up. But I agree, they need to take advantage of Utley and Polanco being out and put some distance between them.
  5. Well, maybe not. Supposedly Pagan can swing righty but not lefty. and hence sits tonight since he'd have to swing lefty. Might have been better to keep him out entirely last night then though.
  6. well, they're already regressing. .667 on the last homestand. Come September and the playoffs, I imagine that crazy theory will be turned on it's head, and people will be proclaiming that the ballpark is an _asset_ and intimidating the other teams.
  7. I guess 3 (I have no ambition to look up if the Phillies are one that get 4) days off wasn't enough for polanco. Wright will likely get to beat being Jetlagged for the Giants series by going to west coast time early.
  8. G-Fafif wrote: "So come on you pessimistic morons and vote for David Wright 25 times!" Now that's a slogan we can all get behind. Maybe it just needs the right twist.."Vote for Polanco to get a much needed nap and spend three days on the couch!"
  9. metirish wrote: I really can't be bothered voting 25 times......did I hear correctly that at one point in the late 50's early 60's they held two All-Star Games in the same season? I feel taht way in April and May. I figure Mets fans are pessimistic morons who want to hate their own team and don't want to vote for the players to be, as baised as it is, the best of the best. Then June comes around, I realize I just spent 20 minutes planting imaginary crops and harvesting imaginary eggs of a high school 'friend' I haven't talked to in years, and I go vote.
  10. I'll cast another 25 or 50 for Wright (and Pagan and Reyes) when I get home from work. Not that it _really_ matters because Wright will make the team anyway, but he should start. Did you know that you can vote for the home run derby too? And that Wright's on the list. (I don't buy into the ruined swing thing) Are they obligated to do so if they win the vote? Did they okay it before hand?
  11. Since the callup: GuyWLERAIPSOBBStrasburg222.2731.67487Oswalt224.1728.00248 So what you're saying is we should trade for Strasburg? I'm in.
  12. Hey, the scoreboard messages DO work!
  13. Frayed Knot wrote: As always, once you do something purely for pr reasons things wind up looking even more forced than had they not been done at all. Meanwhile up above the field, someone (Mushnick in the Post I think) pointed out that it took Michael Kay more than half and hour into Friday's game before he even spoke the words Joe Torre. I think one of these days Joe is going to find himself disappearing from MFY photographs like some disgraced Politburo member from the Stalin era. Kay despises Joe Torre. He was ranting yesterday about how A-Rod shouldn't have gone over there and he should've kept the hate going, complete with advice to kids "Kids, hate is healthy. People don't hate enough."
  14. He's playing 9 innings tonight. He's hitting. He really should be on a plane to Buffalo tomorrow for some rehab above A level. Not any more strenous in terms of easing him in, and the pitching quality is closer to the real thing.
  15. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: Quick 25 on the LWBetterHalfer's private addy. That's 100 our family has kicked in. Reyes got a vote, too-- I expect his numbers to be world-beating within two weeks. As did write-in Anhell. I've voted over 100 times. easy enough tocreate new gmail accounts. I'm officially Daniel Murphys campaign manager too. (figured Pujols didn't need any more votes) Reyes, Wright, and wrote in Pagan. Then voted for all the AL players in position to keep any Yankees out.
  16. Mets are 2-5 in Puerto Rico. thole still around, and I doubt they'd ship him all the way back to Buffalo from down there, so probably here for three? Maybe they'll even use him?
  17. yeah. "but as he stretched before batting practice Sunday night, Dodgers third base coach Larry Bowa walked over to A-Rod and whispered something in his ear. Rodriguez walked over to Yankees media relations director Jason Zillo to have a few words, then jogged toward the batting cage, heading directly for Torre." Good job by the Daily News noting this I suppose. Jon Sterling was going on about this (not the fake part) in a disturbingly gushing way.
  18. I struggle with how to look up this stuff sometimes. (Wish I had a personal MLB stats database) When was the last time a team had three players reach 1000 hits in the same season? This can't be very common.
  19. G-Fafif wrote: G-Fafif wrote: Though the Mets will continue to play all their baseball on United States of America soil/artificial turf for the rest of the season, it occurs to me their next two series are, strictly speaking, taking place outside the 50 states. Can any team that isn't or wasn't Canadian say or ever been able to say that? The Mets played the Blue Jays in Toronto 7/15-7/17/2000 and then played the Expos on 7/18 and 7/19 in Montreal. That's pretty good. Obviously this is the franchise the world wants to see. Think it's a safe bet there will be more Mets fans for this series than Marlins. I imagine there are other teams that played the Nats and then the Blue Jays. particularly in the AL East.

It's especially rough in NL only, because try as I may, there just aren't very many 'diamonds' to find that haven't been snatched up.
