Not cool. writings been on the wall, Citi field was just a wise waypoint on their expansion. I think they have one in Philly now (not the park) and Florida. (checking, Miami, don't see one in Philly, though I remember hearing about it) In a way, Shake Shack is what 5guys was 10 years ago? Only I think it tastes much better. and they serve beer. and are/were wind powered. Also, SNY cameras always linger over food.

If it were our stadium, I'd love it so hard it hurt. We're considering road trips to SF or SD. I dunno, I never really cared for the place. There were some nice features, but I was underwhelmed from the getgo.
  3. on that note, Washington apparently got Shake Shack, Taqueria, Blue Smoke and Box Frites in the ballpark. ditched 5 guys. I hope they didn't take our beer too :-( but probably.
  4. I'm debating a game in Philly this year. I don't love the ballpark, and hate the team, but hey.. it's different! And i'll pass it off as blog/beer research. The wife has the same disdain for Phillies fans, so I may have to go alone, which leaves me pondering how reasonable it is to leave north jersey at 4:30, floor it down to Philly for a weekday game, and then race home afterwards. Not next week, too early for that I think.
  5. They tried that out at Citizen's Bank Park last year in September. integrated with the MLB At Bat app. They'res an update coming tomorrow or tonight I imagine, but I think we would've heard if they were doing it locally.

Plan is to hit the Read The Apple tailgate, circle Citi Field on the outside once, then on the inside once before settling near the back of the PRomenade, just off to the first base side of home. Definitely be checking out hometown beverages. I've decided I want to catalog beer selection this season, I've tossed around the idea of Citi Field having the best beer in the majors (maybe not, but it's definitely up there) and thought I should do some research and talk to some other beer snob fans of other teams and catalog the local selections available. CitiField's beer selection impressed me a lot more before I realized that Beer Island was pretty much all Anheuser-Busch-made/-distributed beers. The true locals are the Brooklyn (and its centerfield food-match varieties) and Bluepoint at Catch of the Day. More and more, I come around to Bluepoint as my default first-beer option (or the Brooklyn Shackmeister). I'd put those up there against, say, Natty Boh or Old Style any day. That said... of the ones I've had in the last decade, a cold Anchor Steam/Liberty Ale on a warm SF day is tough to top. (Especially when it's chasing a Cha-Cha Bowl or garlic fries.) I'd imagine the Stone stuff at Petco would be up there, too. Also: TAILGAAAAAAATE! WOO! I'm mixed on the AB selection, for one it's not just them, since those breweries (Kona, Goose Island until MOnday) were still operated and run separately. It's actually the craft brewery alliance which is affiliated with Ahheuser or whatever. But I support that idea, because those b eers are pretty good in some cases, and the ability to get that distribution mainstream means more bars with real drinkable options instead of the just Bud and Bud Light crap. I will love them forever if they get Kona Kola Nut Brown (toasted coconut, it's amazing) mass distributed. I love the brooklyn stuff. I sometimes wait on those lines just for the beer. (well, not shake shack) It's been a while since i've been to CBP, but Pennsylvania, and specifically Philly, has an amazin brewery collection and they're really good about getting them out places. This will be the last nice thing you see me say about that city or stadium thsi year.

I just entered 3 times myself, not that I read that rag, but my grandmother shoved them at me and told me to mail them in, so i did. rather selfishly, I'm looking for a place that gives Mets tickets as a prize for giving blood. I have a feeling if I give in NJ they'll give me Devils, or *gasp* Nets tickets. Free tickets seems a way to mitigate the $20 tolls to get there and back.

  9. Gracing Opening Day for the first time ever (!): your LeiterWagners. (Gracing our apartment shortly thereafter: two baby-decapitated Mr. Met bobbleheads.) Anyone else? [We five-packed and then some, too, because I got overexcited one night, and also because I'm an idiot who doesn't understand supply and demand.] Gracing CitiField for the first time this year: Something called Hometown Beverages. (Never had it, myself. But the "local" concept gives it, like, a McFadden's-of-beers kinda waft.) Don't we have a thread already? or was that for Spring. anyway, I'll be there too. Plan is to hit the Read The Apple tailgate, circle Citi Field on the outside once, then on the inside once before settling near the back of the PRomenade, just off to the first base side of home. 10. It's not hard to read a depth chart, Duda is a likely candidate. But is it so necessary to fill up space by guessing at it? why not just wait for the real report?

  12. I like the lineup, but no Bay hurts. It's gonna take some work on Terry's part to not have the buttom be Harris Hairston Emaus Nickeas on certain days.
  13. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I think Terry Collins should be able to nip this "distraction" thing in the bud. Just tell the players to respond to financial questions with something like, "I really don't have much information about what's going on with the financial situation. I'm just focused on what's happening on the field." Enough responses like that, and the questions will stop. And even if they don't stop, they won't be a "distraction" because the questions will be asked and answered very quickly. I think they should all respond "I'm doing just fine!" and hand the reporter a quarter.

Nothing scientific; just ordering the players based on how good they are relative to each other right now. Of course past performance and future expectations are factors in the evaluation but right now, Carlos Beltran is not a better player than Werth or Heyward. Maybe you could put him at 3 ahead of Stanton. personally I disagree. But that's fine. It's almost time to prove it anyway. MLB The Show 2011 has Stanton batting cleanup and the announcers talk about him like he's Albert Pujols.
  15. Waiver stuff is always confusing. I've read it enoug htimes that I think i'm almost getting it though. I was going off the 1pm yesterday and what i was reading on Twitter assuming that they were put on at the same time, and that that must've been three days ago. But I guess Misch was on earlier. doesn't look there is really any change in how waivers work. Once the 'season' starts (What's the official start date? is it March 21st or something? ) through the deadline, waivers operate one way, after the added 'to be traded' addition.
  16. The Second Spitter wrote: Yeah, they do, but since we are not privy to that sort of info, we wait for announcements. The only guy the Mets have announced has cleared is Misch. If Evans and Hernandez were put on at the same time, chances are they've both been claimed. I thought they went on the same time. Is it possible everyone replied "No" to Misch where they just haven't responded to Evans and Hernandez? No one seems to be acting like this means he's been claimed, but it could certainly mean the Mets are in the process of working out a trade or deciding whether to pull him back? You can only put guys on waivers M-F before the afternoon? seems odd.
  17. The Second Spitter wrote: Ceetar wrote: Edgy DC wrote: Certainly, but I think --- if Bay goes on the DL --- the first instinct would be to rescue Evans from the wire. His profile even resembles Bay's more. Well, according to the reports I saw, 1pm was the deadline so he's no longer on waivers. Anthony DiComo just tweeted that he hasn't cleared waivers yet. Yeah, i guess whoever tweeted 1pm was wrong. Do waivers not have a set deadline and depend on how fast teams pass on a guy?
  18. metirish wrote: Sent to NY for tests, or perhaps testis ? Not that I'm expecting him to start the season now, but beat writers are acting like he can't just get back on a plane and fly back to Florida tonight of the test were clear and he was painfree on Friday. He's going to anyway, it just depends if he's going to Miami or Port St. Lucie. I'm going to guess he joins the team Friday the 15th in Atlanta, after filing his taxes.
  19. The Second Spitter wrote: Ceetar wrote: I think Thole will move up two spaces this year, [...] Nah, but 4th is ok, when you have 3 AS catchers in front of you. Buck could regress into a Barajas-scratch lottery-type hitter*, but Ruiz isn't gonna drop 30 OPS+ points to Thole. *Hey Albilly, if you trademarked that phrase, you probably could have retired by now. I've never been a big fan of Ruiz. How about "closes the gap to make it less clear who's 2nd and who's 4th?" Honestly, given his rookieness, i'm not even sure Thole should be 4th.
  20. The only one I have a real quibble with is RF. Are your assumptions cumulative? games played? As of right now I'd be Beltran at the top of that list, or second. Actually, I might swap Ibanez and Prado too, but nitpicking perhaps. I think Thole will move up two spaces this year, as will Bay. I think Wright, Reyes and Ike all have (in that order) chances to take back #1.
  21. The Second Spitter wrote: As for Rubin's OBP argument, seriously.... Making an argument for OBP is wise, Alderson has specifically mentioned it, but the one he chooses to make..

I like your argument better. I'm going to mentally assign you the "Pro" part of the Pro vs. Con. I even figured out the trick poll, but not reading the secondary text there.
  25. First you have to get through the hot button ad, featuring this trick question: The Mets' sparkplug is entering his walk year. Will he stay, or will he go? Yes No Had Rubin mentioned that your work was in the article instead of a snarky comment about Reyes leaving, maybe I would've clicked on it sooner.
