he's also been linked to various trainers with PED ties over the years. This is aside from the obvious arbitrary line about what's an acceptable drug/steroid and what's not. Cortisone, toradol, others. Never mind amphetamines. And he's getting so much credit for championships, for counting stats, all of which are enormously inflated by confirmed steroid use.

practically every single person he played with used, openly, in the same clubhouse no? but Mr. "whatever it takes" never even tried pre-banned Andro? sure. It a safer bet that anyone that played pre..i dunno, 2004? is more likely to have used than not. Certainly if keeping a 'clean' (ha) Hall is important, you have to keep guys like this out.

more than Piazza, yes.

Hell the ball was adding dozens of feet to every fly ball last year. Fact. We have no idea the baseball result of what Bonds took, especially if you don't know the result of the stuff the pitchers took. And hell, Jeter nearly got in unanimously, and the evidence for him was more damning than Piazza.

well, there are credible domestic violence claims in Bonds history, but it's not like the media cares about that either. based on random choice or personal whim, rather than any reason or system. It's literally what the Hall of Fame is. Maybe it's not _completely_ meaningless, but the BBWAA now accounts for a tiny percentage of what passes for 'baseball entertainment' whereas 80 years ago they were probably much everything that wasn't the game itself. For me, it's meaningless. Sort of like anything that comes from Joel Sherman. It contributes zero value to my baseball experience, and sometimes negative value. I have no problem referring to Barry Bonds as 'inner circle' or 'all time great' or 'hall of famer' if I was writing about him. It's a superlative, and it's accurate.

Benjamin Grimm wrote: Frankly, I'd rather see Rose in the Hall than Bonds (not that I'm saying Rose should be in) because Bonds did more harm to the game. Rose's all-time base hit record is legitimate. Bonds' home run record is a travesty. False. Bonds was GREAT for the game, was fun to watch. DOMINATED. What a great player. oh im' sorry, is the hall not about baseball? I'm confused. but i reterate, fuck the hall and the BBWAA. Meaningless and arbitrary. Bonds is an all time great and we can just use 'all time great' instead of 'Hall of FAme' the first is more meaningful.

if there's any reason to keep Bonds out, you HAVE to keep Schilling out for being a racist asshole. He doesn't deserve a stage or any honor in anyway. If you're going to throw out the character clause (as you should) then there's no reason to keep probably the second best (hi Trout) baseball player any of us have ever seen out. flat out, the hall is meaningless and just an arbitrary set of writers bloviating if it doesn't include him.

neither of which has anything to do with how good they were.

Edgy MD wrote: Still, the integrity of the National And American Leagues as distinct entities, as diminished as it has been, has stood for most of baseball history, and I'd hate to dismiss it as arbitrary, even if it is, you know, kind of arbitrary. Personally i'd like to completely abolish it. it's possible we've seen the last pitcher AB.

Edgy MD wrote: I'm sorry. I've been without baseball too long and I'm confusing them with the WOR interregnum, with commercials for Glenn Beck in between innings. Mark Simone promos and shit. has, WOR had that unfortunate side affect of leaving the Mets game on and getting into the car in the morning and hearing evil. I haven't noticed CBS doing that as much, it seems more tame, but I have been just streaming the audio from the app via bluetooth since that's what's connected by default anyway. fwiw, it's only $20 for all audio for all baseball games for the entire year. what service? Later You can get the MLB At Bat app on any smartphone, which includes the audio (be warned it will auto renew yearly) or you can get strictly MLB Audio via..i think mlb.tv website but right now I think they've hidden the pricing. They ARE allowing free streaming of 2018 and 2019 though, at this current time. Apparently it's all Alexa enabled now, (and chromecast for me) so "Alexa put on the Mets" should presumably work if you have an account.

=bmfc1 post_id=35930 time=1587821401 user_id=73] I always liked hearing Pete McCarthy's show which included a guest. A 7-Line Production would be a good extension of his brand.

"what's wrong with CBS? it's fine." No it ain't. The Mets are shoe-horned into the news format. Even on Limbaugh Radio there was time for the very excellent pre-pre-game show and post-post-game show with Pete McCarthy. On CBS, there is a pre-pre that is awful-awful (sponsored by the Barnaby Jones Medical Center, or something like that) and after the post-game show they are out of there as fast as possible. We need--no we DESERVE--a radio affiliate which gives us a forum to call-in and complain about double-switches and pitching changes. If the Mets worked it out so that there was a call-in/talk-show on the internet that would be fine but that seems to be too much trouble for Jeffy. Do people really want that? We have Twitter, and facebook and here and .. WFAN. but what you're described is like, ridiculously simple. Do you want to create one? It's just live streaming a video chat. and then you can save it to a podcast for the morning. Would be even easier if it was quarantine empty stands games where we know we'd all be home to record after even Sunday afternoon games, but you could rotate hosts. Amazin' Avenue rotates 'recap person' to write the immediate post-game post and the longer post-post-game recap you could do the same thing. Just have the callers skype in. Or set up a line, I could ask Darren how he does Orange and Blue thing, which is done in that format, live with calls to a podcast stream afterwards.

what's wrong with CBS? it's fine. just spit-balling, but I might like to transform the game experience which might not be wise at the moment with the uncertainty. I have not yet been to a game in Japan, but as I gather it's a lot more of an inclusive type experience, with player chants and the like. You can't necessarily replicate that here, nor can you take something that should be fan-created and created it yourself, but you can maybe cultivate it. Tone down the volume of the speakers and create more of them so all people can still hear. Give in to the idea that when a game is really hopping and the crowd is screaming, it's okay if they can't here the Lets Go Mets prompt. There should be no (except maybe one 'quietier' section for fans that need that) place in the stadium where you can't hear the game. make sure the radio is playing, or the SNY feed is playing, somewhere, audibly, in the bathrooms, the concourses, the shops, everywhere. Citi Field is light years better at this than say, Shea where once you departed your seat you were basically on a crowded subway platform with 'food' vendors, but it could be better. Again, just spit-balling, this would all be researched and crowd-searched and tested. Maybe a jam-band section of sorts? let people sign up to borrow instruments and see if you get them to creatively make music. More free-standing bar areas, with real craft beer. Maybe with silly bar games and hell, other TVs. Emulate the reasons people stay away and go to the bar instead of the park and bring it there. (flatten out the promenade club, the entire section behind the plate there, extend it a bit, raise it up so you can see, and make it a bar. Allow groups to reserve a spot in there, for free, in advance, via lottery so that everyone has a chance to plan to go there. And then just have the two 'guards' that normally check tickets just act as crowd control. 4 out, 4 in. etc. You'd probably 'have' to sponsor this with some stupid corporate beer to pay for it, but maybe not. Hell, like Mikkeller stock it. But I want METS themed beers here. I want a polar bear wheat. A Flying Squirrel Red. I want a custom tap handle in the shape of a lightning bolt that serves Thor's Double IPA. Augmentative Reality is the future. The MLB Ballpark app has some rudimentary nods to this, but it doesn't work, or barely works, no one talks about it and it's dumb where it does work. but it won't be forever. invest. get a HoloLens2. Have a few kiosks with them, like the video game section for 'kids' (btw, video games are not exclusive to kids. Spots where you can play these games would be fun too. Especially games that you can compete against 'ghosts' of past performances. Get Alonso to play Mario Kart and then have people race against his ghost) So with the AR. I dunno, there's a lot you can do with it, and you'd have to be out front with the dev for it. But let me put on the helmet and see the statcast stuff. Hell, let me do it before the game and let me SEE famous plays. You'd need an additional Shea overlay for the old stuff, but let me watch the AB that led to Endy's catch live, though the lens. Let me STAND IN AGAINST A THOR FASTBALL. This is something that you can already do, at Citi Field, if you're say..Thor. The Mets ALREADY do this against opposition as part of advance scouting.

=Fman99 post_id=35829 time=1587752697 user_id=86] Wow, just two counties in the whole USA where Mets fans dominate. Sad. (Two more than the White Sox claim, though).

Looks like it's Chicago/Cincinnati territory which probably means some variety of those games were on TV. Cubs were always on WGN practically nationwide right? so might skew that way... ..if you're above 30 or so. Nowadays, you'd probably be LESS likely to root for those teams, as you're blacked out from streaming them.

Now is probably the valley for the Wilpons, and maybe peak time for it to "drop in A-Rod's lap" if that's a thing that can happen. It seems fairly unlikely that 2021 is going to be canceled, at worst it'd be empty stadium stuff (or really who knows, we all die, etc). Once the uncertainty is settled, franchises are probably back to increasing value faster than you can count it.

Best Mets Leadoff Hitter - All-time
Ceetar replied to batmagadanleadoff's topic in New York Mets Talk
I looked up this list cause it's pretty much random guessing. In fact, for the entire existence of the Mets, this split baseball wide results in no difference in OPS. (as one would expect) -
Best Mets Leadoff Hitter - All-time
Ceetar replied to batmagadanleadoff's topic in New York Mets Talk
what are we measuring by? minimums? Lerov Stanton. Matt Harvey was 10x as good when he led off an inning. -
they're accruing service time if they're on a 40 I believe, and contracts are moving (I saw a Betts will still be a free agent post). I saw something about the Braves being first to extend minor league payments through may or something, but as to the actual financials of it all I don't know. I think it's a safe bet to say teams will be fine, minor leaguers will suffer, and the fans will ultimately be the ones that have to pay for it.

like how he's pretending he's "new" when he's had a twitter account since June of 2013 or so.
-
Granted it's not "in uniform" but retire Keith based on his booth work. and Beltran for being a hall of famer that played a large and excellent portion of his career with the team and managed them to a World Series in a different timeline.

Will a lost season hurt deGrom's HOF chances?

does he have pimples on his back? cause that's worse. -
Lefty Specialist wrote: Players, coaching staffs and other essential personnel would be sequestered at local hotels, where they would live in relative isolation and travel only to and from the stadium, sources said. That doesn't sound like they could bring their families. And they wouldn't go anywhere but the hotel and the stadium. Sounds pretty draconian. Maybe their families could could be included. maybe they should, to limit hotel personnel that would need to interact with them. It hasn't even reached the logistics stage, it's just a thought experiment. Plus the idea is to get a jump on things. Maybe there will be no crowds of 50k people in 2020, but it easily be that quarantine does get lifted somewhere shortly after the end of 'spring training' and limits them less.

Lefty Specialist wrote: Basically you're holding MLB players prisoner for 4 1/2 months. Not sure how that'll work. But ratings for this would be through the goddamn roof if they manage to pull it off. What about announcers? I can't see Keith locking himself in a hotel room in Arizona. Who would feed Hadji? I don't think holding them hostage is going to be part of the solution. It'd have to come with the testing and early warning stuff. They'd still be able to go home to their families, who hopefully are quarantining as well. You'd have to have confidence that you could contain any outbreak among the population (including stadium workers) so that you're not spreading the virus. It's all about testing. So if Gary and Keith and Ron are not testing positive, you're not really worried about them sharing a booth. If one tests positive, you treat them all as positive and isolate them. New booth. YOu could do shift work too, where they work one week, and then we only have away broadcasts for the next week, etc. It might make sense to have more than just Arizona too. Pick 4 locations so that if one is contaminated you can still have the other three playing while you're making sure you're not spreading the virus. It's a lot of logistics. It's still unlikely without testing.
