  2. This is the day things start to get serious. Pare down the roster in camp so the big boys can play. 3 weeks and 3 hours until Opening Day, let's get this going.
  3. Edgy DC wrote: If we weren't pinched at shortstop right now, I'd see Turner as on the block. Definitely a candidate for a trade this season. Murphy might be too though, if he can't manage second, and he's probably have a lot of value. If we see Valdespin/Havens looking good up in Buffalo..

Turner at third seems more probable. I doubt that. Moving Muffy to 3rd and installing an actual infielder at 2nd would improve the D at a time when the offense is presumably suffering without Wright. I have my doubts that the Muffster lasts at second for long. I mean how he plays there is one a million big mysteries for this team. Besides, for all his terrific attitude, Tyrna is not a particularly good ballplayer, which is why I think it's just as likely that Valdespin and/or Havens get the next shot at full-timing second base. Havens isn't even healthy yet right? I don't think either of them have a real shot at breaking camp with the team, which is the month Wright would miss. Does switching Murphy and Turner really make that much of a difference defensively, including on May's defense when Murphy slides back over without the added month of practice?

Or we can watch the games, not pretend we know the future, and enjoy baseball? why have a blog then? To talk about the 2012 Mets, not the 2013 ones. Until next year. Law's post is so predictable, he doesn't like the Mets system, he's a minors guy, therefore he doesn't think the Mets will be good soon.

  7. Funny, I wrote kind of the opposite post today. (in terms of whether we should be looking to the future or not) He's full of it. and wrong. Too many variables and things he's taking for granted (Wright for instance, payroll staying what it is, new owners helping, none of the prospects he didn't project as good being good)

  10. Someone tweeted that this is a positive, because it's easier to prove you didn't do something than someone else did do something? I'm not sure I follow that though.
  11. Noticed a new host talking with Chris Carlin after the Mets game this weekend. Apparently Kerith Burke has joined SNY. She'll start on Sportsnite, but I guess she was filling in post game for.. Ojeda usually does that right? during Spring. I googled for an image for you folk, first one I noticed was this one, from 5 years ago when she apparently got pulled over driving drunk in Kansas. And she shares the info on the Citi song.. If you've ever wondered what the ENTIRE "somebody left the gate open" song sounds like, hear ya go: Somebody left the gate open http://www.twitter.com/KerithSNY

(Or, for that matter, "extreme couponing?") You have to watch the extreme couponing show and see these women. They are creaming themselves in the aisle during the checkout process. It'd be easier if they just bought dildos. Using coupons. There's a film at the Tribeca Film Festival about the invention of the vibrator.

No, Zimmerman lost 3 months because he re-injured himself during the season and required surgery. Wright's not at that point. Yet.... Well some good work and caution on the Mets part have kept Wright from possibly reinjuring it. But I guess it's still a possibility that it doesn't heal fully without surgery. I wonder if ultrasound guided cortisone is the conservative methods Zim tried.
  15. Frayed Knot wrote: May is an ex-SS who only converted to catcher a few years back. That probably means he was never a very good SS to begin with but for a backup role that's fine. In the meantime that kind of versatility can be valuable as it helps solve the problem of two catchers not being enough and three being too many. Keep a guy like him who can play elsewhere and it's like having 2-1/2 catchers. same with Rottino i imagine.
  16. Edgy DC wrote: Taking over at shortstop: Lucas May. For reals! Shmets still trail, 6-5. Do we read into that? Do they like May's bat and want to see if he can be versatile?
  17. A Boy Named Seo wrote: FYI - game's on ESPN if you you're playing hooky or have TV at work. wish. And I don't trust the bars around here to have Spring Games on, or I'd have taken a 1-2 lunch. I hear the Mets are rocking it though, and Turner made a good defensive DP start. via Twitter.
  18. Boesch was scratched for Matt Young btw, on the Tigers side.
  19. I kinda want to watch Turner. disappointed.
  20. bmfc1 wrote: smg58 wrote: Oh what the hell, I'll bet Lucas May beats Nickeas out and we don't see all that much of him. I agree. Nickeas better be the greatest defensive catcher in baseball because that's all he can offer. May is hitting and if he keeps hitting, he'll make the team instead of Nickeas. Nickeas is hitting too. It's Spring Training.
  21. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I think that working for Terry, or just being around him, would be mentally exhausting. I also think that, over time, I would have a harder and harder time hiding my disdain for him. I can see glimpses of how he wore out his welcome in Houston and Anaheim, especially if his personality was, as has been said, even more intense then. My prediction: There will be a new manager before the end of the 2014 season, if not sooner. I think his personality works with this team with these outside expectations.
  22. Edgy DC wrote: I'm sure he'll play like a major league athlete, but yeah, I think, as challenged as the Mets defense looks, that he'd be a most unappetizing selection at shortstop. Sure. But I guess they're hoping he can be a passable guy that they put out there to rest Tejada for say Niese starts with high Ks, versus awkwardly asking Santana to try to make sure the hitters hit the ball to the right side or in the air or phoning Alex Cora to see how he's doing.
  23. Presumably because you shouldn't get snippy with your wife? Practice biting your tongue and "yes dear". I think it'd be awesome if he started saying "Yes dear" to Rubin.
  24. Edgy DC wrote: Ceetar wrote: Turner! because of Cedeno's injury perhaps. Sure, and Tejada's. But they they have Valdespin available. So they clearly want to get a good look at whether Turner can hack it during the regular season. yeah, that's what I meant. Testing him there as a backup. Can't be that horrible can he?
  25. Turner! because of Cedeno's injury perhaps.
