Doesn't mean there won't still be tough times ahead, but at least those in charge presumably know where everything stands. See (and this tells you where I am), this really is a punch to "no way in hell" insistence of Megdal. But yeah! Go baseball! I'm sure those (And they are, see Klap-trap) that predicted the Wilpons will lose team will continue to do so. They do have lots of loans and stadium bills and all that. But that's a long way away and their finances become even more private now so I don't see how we'll ever know.

  3. Utley, who hasn't played a game all spring, will go see a Knee specialist. #blamebeltran
  4. and it means more baseball talk and less finances talk. yay!
  5. Edgy DC wrote: It sure seemed that Alderson believed in Herrera last September, openly contrasting the relief of going into camp in 2012 with two knowns (Byrdak and Herrera) with the question mark camp of 2011. I guess I'm going with Edgin too, but I'd like to find out what changed their attitude about Danny Ray. #40man Yeah, he had to have believed in him at least a little bit. K-Rod was basically salary dump, but it'd be silly to take pure crap over crap that you might kinda like. And he pitched well so it seems weird they'd have suddenly soured on him.

  7. There are reasons (warning: SBNation link), and his teammates know. And if his teammates know, it's just a matter of time before one of his teammates is no longer a teammate and feels less beholden to the circle of silence. I thought the 'reason' he first went with was Herpes? or what that an unsubstantiated rumor?
  8. I went with Herrera, but don't know why really. I probably should've picked Carson, the only guy on the 40 man of those.
  9. Edgy DC wrote: Yes, but most voting citizens are more honorable than that. Wasn't saying they weren't, but people gripe and complain about jury duty and "OMG what if i get on a long case?!" when really they don't want people on the jury that really don't want to be there.
  10. metirish wrote: If a potential juror showed up in Mets attire would he or she be dismissed? This is why Jury Duty is rarely a big deal despite people complaining. If you don't want to do it, it's so easy to get out of just about every possible situation. Show up in a Mets hat and a "sell the team" shirt and you won't be picked.
  11. Edgy DC wrote: Robby Cano walking off the field holding his hand after an HbP. I saw a kid in a Cano jersey doing sprints outside the Brooklyn Brewery yesterday. This probably isn't related though.
  12. We should probably split this to You Make The Call: Ike Davis even if it's premature, but I agree on Hudgens. He did an interview with Ted Berg last week, and It was nice to hear him talk about the team's approach and what they're after and how they get there. It's refreshing to hear that there are complex thoughts to this stuff. Also, he praised Lucas Duda in almost a "Well this seems like a gimme answer" way when asked about 'surprise' guys doing well this Spring.

  14. Benjamin Grimm wrote: This was in an e-mail that I received from the Mets this morning: Ike Davis is projected by Bloomberg Sports to bounce back this season, with 22 homers and 83 RBI. I'm actually hoping for a bit more than that. Those numbers don't seem like much to crow about. I expect more too. I don't know how they can possibly provide an accurate RBI count without knowing where he's batting, which to my ears hasn't been really stated anywhere yet.
  15. Amazingly, Niese is now through 5 and has just thrown 25 effing pitches. Even more amazing, 24 strikes, 1 ball! The Braves swung at the first pitch each of the first 10 (!) hitters and 18 times in 5 innings! The Braves players must have tickets to a Toby Keith concert right after the game or something. (Edit: think all that shit is right, I'm just going thru the box score...) pitch counts are not correct for gameday in Spring Training. Niese finished with I think 74 pitches and 49 strikes. Rauch came in and got two grounders, Turner to the plate for the first out, simple 4-3 for the second. Thanks Dan. Dan drove in 2 in thebottom of the inning and we're up 2-0.
  16. Sure. Strikes out guys, improved both his K rate and his BB rate last year from the year before.. let's up too many hits but.. 4.1 ERA, 180IP, 165 K, 1.35 WHIp.
  17. http://mlb.mlb.com/team/roster_40man.jsp?c_id=was their roster links only 4 outfielders. One's not actually on the roster, the other's Harper who's probably/maybe not starting with the team.
  18. I think the Marlins may have passed the Braves for hated franchises in my eyes.
  19. Edgy DC wrote: Halladay comes down from the stratosphere, and this division really opens up. I put absolutely zero stock on random reports from Spring Training, but it happens to everyone eventually. I've actually been thinking first and last in the NL East might be separated by as few as 15 games this year.
  20. offense is spotty, supposedly Pasternicky, or whoever the other guy is for SS, both have looked the AA players that they are.
  21. Ryan Howard out at least into May, if not much later, and Chase Utley has yet to play a Spring Training game. Roy Halladay is not actually injured, but there's panic that his arm angle was off and his velocity down last start.
  22. The Second Spitter wrote: Ceetar wrote: How many real DHs are there? Ones that are specifically DHs, paid as DHs, and you really really really wouldn't want to put them out in the field? Jim Thome but he'll be playing at 1st this year. He'll go down with an injury in late April, when Manuel tries to force the offense by putting him there everyday. He'll breakdown, the Phillies won't hit enough to make the playoffs, and the talking heads will run with the story that if the NL had the DH the poor Phillies wouldn't have been unfairly eliminated.
  23. TransMonk wrote: Got it. I'm reading through on all the stuff on Fangraphs and it sounds fun. The last time I played fantasy baseball was 1991. I was the youngest owner in a keeper league that held a live auction. Back then I would wait for the Sporting News to come out on the weekend that listed all of the stats for all of the teams and then I would look all of my players up and keep their stats by hand each week. The commissioner would release standings every month printed by a service on a dot-matrix printer. I haven't played since the advent of internet stat compiling. I'm looking forward to it, but am admittedly a bit rusty on the process. I'll brush up and be ready to go on Thursday. This is the first time for roughly all of us I think. (I multi'tasked an auction last week)
  24. TransMonk wrote: Is this NL only or both leagues? the entire subset of major and minor league players included guys that aren't current (I imagine Andy Pettitte was already in there somewhere for example) I believe only major league players on the active roster accumulate stats though, but you've got a 40 man roster, and if you want to snag, say Bryce Harper, in the hopes that he'll be good at the end of this year or next year, that's your prerogative. I grabbed Nieuwenhuis in another league for instance.
