I think Collins should've vetoed him going back out for the 6th based no that. Prove you're not a liability in the batting order to get that extra rope. Obviously Santana's a special case and isn't usually a liability, but still.

  3. Edgy DC wrote: Stephen Strasburg's lone prior start against the Mets. Pretty middlin'. Game score of 53. Let's chase this guy. I watched it in Philly.
  4. TransMonk wrote: Lotsa pitches in that first inning, but no runs across. I wonder if we'll get to a point once it's warmer where Santana's feeling good and at like 102 pitches and Terry trots out and Santana shoos him. I hope so. Thole guns down Espinosa at third for the final out.
  5. I imagine they won't make a decision until tomorrow or Friday. Have a minor leaguer prepped on the runway, and see if David can grip the bat with the splint and all that. The worst would be the "It's much better, but I just can't quite grip it" answer that leaves the Mets convinced it'll be less than a week and has them playing short.
  6. well yeah, he sucks, but just seems harsh coming from a beat writer. Nor am I sure what his point is. That Turner should be playing today?
  7. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: Midweek, in April? Fonzie STILL gets under-respected around these parts. might've been his choice, who knows. Maybe he'll be back for his bobblehead. He was doing a meet and greet or something at a bank yesterday afternoon too.
  8. TransMonk wrote: Who is that? Fonzie? yup.

  12. Mets lineup is out somewhere. Duda batting third. I'm torn between an early lunch so I can be on the radio/at bat by the time the game starts, or late lunch and going somewhere to watch the beginning. hmm..
  13. Cedeno 1.5 Tejada 1.3 Gee 0.9 Turner 0.4 Bay 0.5 Thole 0.25
  14. just a bit. but my mother always says America glorifies gangsters. (The Mob museum in Las Vegas is pretty cool.) I agree the 'positive impact' punishment is usually the better course of action. This why even if the pissed off people don't buy the forced apology (And why would they?) at least something good comes from it.
  15. G-Fafif wrote: Ozzie Guillen was hired to be good for business. He looms as the diametric opposite. It's funny because it's happening to the Marlins. Stop laughing about it for the sake of Wright's finger.
  16. Edgy DC wrote: Times like that, you miss the color of Shea's seats. really I just was just missing the 20000 units of body heat that would've allowed me to feel my fingers.
  17. Ashie62 wrote: Jordany? Ceetar where are you? I was at the game witnessing that first hand. I think David guts it out personally, two more days off and a splint. But if he does DL I'd be surprised if it's anyone but Satin due to 40man issues. edit: I'd forgotten they added Lutz to the roster. hmm...probably still Satin.
  18. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Totally forgot about this. Thanks for the updates! bet we see the first SB tonight.

  20. Edgy DC wrote: If the Mets had played these first five games half as sloppy as I've built the threads to follow them with, well, shit, we might be looking up from the bottom of a big hole. well, by the time you've done 162 of these I imagine you'll be a little more polished.
  21. precisely. And if he'd said what he said in Chicago (in fact, he did) it wouldn't have become an issue because there's not a large subset of White Sox fans that are Cuban/Latino and would stop spending money because of it.
  22. Ashie62 wrote: Ceetar wrote: oh yeah, and don't forget Darling's "THERE IS NO BOOK!" rant about innings limits for young pitchers. "You did everything by the book and look what happened, he had Tommy John in his first season. Congratulations. Good job. THERE IS NO BOOK!" Was he referring to Strasburg or just speaking in generalities? prompted by Strasburg. I think Gary said Strasburg Monday, he pitched 7 innings on Opening Day, 153 to go. That's where it started, with Ron pondering why they open their mouths and tell people the innings limit. (probably because they're repeatedly asked) And then pondered about if the Nationals were relevant what would they do. Transitioned about how you have to let these guys be great and the idea is to keep them around and healthy to win a championship but what if you're ruining your chance to win a championship now by not letting them pitch... and then he really got the head of steam talking about the tommy john and going 'by the book'. Really, the only thing missing was a "Fuck you Tom Verducci".
  23. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I still think it was just "he". Turner's name was probably mentioned by the questioner, and when he responded he used the word "he". shh, that's boring.
  24. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Srsly. I understand there's no point in saying anything pro-Castro in Miami, but the Marlins hired this guy precisely because he'd say things to get into the headlines. To punish him when he does, only days into his first season, is completely gutless and a completes a clusterfuck all over. The Marlins are a disgrace. Not that they're not a disgrace, but they further extend the headlines and drama by suspending him. And then get to talk about it more when he returns. Then they'll sign Tim Tebow. wait, that's not right.
