  1. found Rubin's link. he's claiming someone told him that he does indeed have a partial tear and the Mets are 'bracing' to lose him for the season but exploring other options. The way he writes it makes it sound worse, like it's a foregone conclusion but Alderson made it out like they had no idea and needed to see what the next 2-3 days bring.

Rubin's a moron. edit: Ligament tear not ruled out. further tests tomorrow for full diagnosis followed by a second opinion. 2-3 days yet before we know. Best case is probably like 3-4 weeks. according to Alderson. Schwinden probably making the start. Up to Collins, but probably Nieuwenhuis in left, Torres in center. Torres probably returns in Houston rather than in Colorado.
  3. well, here's hoping it's just soreness and not actually ligament damage, which i assume is code for tommy john? Carson is a lefty reliever, presumably only here until Friday when they promote...Schwinden? Hefner?
  4. Edgy DC wrote: New team in town. New light. New life. New Mets in uniform. It's gonna be great. The Mets are undefeated against the Miami Marlins. Jose Reyes is hitless against the Mets in his career. (although he's 1/4 against Johan)
  5. <-------- I rank as Jose Reyes today. how fitting.

  7. bad reputation is more technically accurate though, imo. He's never gonna reach his Celexa quotas spending so much time playing baseball.
  8. ZZ will wear #19.
  9. I'm more excited for ZZ than for Valdespin, but looks like Jordany probably the one ticketed for more actual playing time. Make it count.
  10. ZZ: Zach lutZ anyway, wonder how he'll be used. I presume Valdespin in the outfield now.
  11. Edgy DC wrote: I've been having homonym trouble with my posts too, to be fair. this doesn't excuse it, but posting at work usually means I say my piece and go back to staring at my code hoping it's 5pm, not really proofreading. And saying he gets a bad rap makes him sound like a rapper. probably should say bad rep.
  12. Edgy DC wrote: Valdespin is superior athlete, but he muffs and muffs and muffs. The discipline in his game can be seen in his inexplicable swing at the first pitch making his big league debut after two walks loaded the bases for him. A terrible move. I knew he was undisciplined at the plate, but I hadn't realized he was like that in the field as well. Terry's style seems to be more give the young guy a start and then pinch hit for him later. Murphy's probably due for a day off anyway.
  13. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Going "a couple of days" without making a defensive miscue hardly makes you a Gold Glove candidate. nor was I making him out to be one. pondering if perhaps he isn't the opposite of a Gold Glove candidate isn't declaring him to be one.
  14. Gwreck wrote: I had almost forgotten about [crossout]Leo Nunez[/crossout] Juan Oviedo, former Marlins closer. He's stuck in the Dominican Republic, unable to get a Visa to come to the US at this point. When and if he does make it, he's suspended by MLB for six weeks. Not Marlins related, but this is the story of[crossout]Fausto Carmona[/crossout]Roberto Hernandez Heredia too. A lot of that going around.
  15. Edgy DC wrote: One thing about Valdespin: replacing Cedeo with him ain't a step forward defensively. We really have no viable defensive sub for Murphy now. Turner's fairly sure-handed if not great, in my estimation. Is Valdespin that bad? I know he gets a little bit of a bad wrap, but I figured growing pains and what not. Then again, tell me right now the last play Murphy muffed. It's been a couple of days hasn't it? Or did he butcher something when I was averting my eyes recently?
  16. TransMonk wrote: Since opening 4-0, the Mets are 4-8. That's a little closer to the 2012 squad I expected...but so far away from the one I wanted. *sigh* Ups and downs right? all teams have 'em. minimize the downs and maximize the ups..as in, start the next winning streak right now before you drop below .500.
  17. 925: Jordany Valdespin.
  18. #1 Jordany Is in the game.
  19. Tejada,Murphy,Wright,Bay,Hairston,Turner,Nieuwenhuis,Nickeas,Gee
  20. Hefner back down, Valdespin debuts.
  21. metirish wrote: Yeah, I think the TV spots are weird. To me it's not like the Mets running spots to remind us Piazza is coming back, come and see him. it's weird in a sense but that's more SNY/default advertising spots anyway right? I mean, if Reyes had been a Brewer they'd be advertising this series the same way. we do have a thread though, somewhere, called "the second career of jose reyes"
  22. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: It was a nice changeup. Both righty-lefty-wise and on-base-guy-before-contact-guys-wise, Davis-Tejada-Thole-Baxter makes more sense than Davis-Thole-Tejada-Baxter, doesn't it? Thole has like the third highest OBP in the National League.
  23. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: Gary praises Thole's throwing, and it does look fundamentally sound... but he kind of looks like a guy who's counting out the steps while he's ballroom dancing. Either way, he barely misses nailing Melky stealing second. And now it's 1-0. And now Lucas Duda is Frenchy. And now it's 2-0. Lucas Duda now tied for the lead in RF assists. (Bay tied in LF)
  24. Benjamin Grimm wrote: And... we're underway! 1 down, 26 to go.
  25. Benjamin Grimm wrote: So they'll go into this doubleheader with 13 pitchers and only four hitters on their bench. only 4 if you're counting Bay. #53 for Hefner.
