  2. I've now accidentally gotten the first two of these bobbleheads. (My Aunt got an extra Seaver that she's holding for me until I see her (probably Sunday) and someone offered me free tickets for Saturday so..) so now I'm sorta committed to getting all 5.
  3. since you mentioned wheeler and it was the next tweet after the feed from this thread anyawy @Wheelerpro45 wrote: Zack wheeler ? About to get this 20min run done then lower body workout and some core. Then a 10:30 game with a bunch of kids. He's either saying something rather profound about baseball or doing some charity appearance type thing.
  4. So far we've been managing to fake that 5th spot. Figure more time goes by the more options we have right? June first isn't that far away anyway. If today is the spot Young would be targeting, the next one's May 29th. Then June 4. So that's three starts if he wanted to be ready for June 9th against a last place AL East team.
  5. been an interesting early season. Texiera has seemingly become a one-dimensional slugger (well two , since he supposedly still plays good defense) and I do wonder if maybe he'd have had sub-800 OPS if it wasn't for the friendly walls. Could it be that the slow start he's so good at is that his number 1 thing is home runs and in the cold april air and small sample size of games at home he's just not there yet? Similar arguments could probably be make for some of the other guys too. home run numbers are always depressed early on (although it's been a warm spring and it's getting towards June now).

If you answered "yes", you're full of shit. If I do that and pretend there's no red hair, it looks like Jin from Lost. yeah, i see that.
  7. Frayed Knot wrote: The next bobble-head I see that actually resembles the person it's supposed to will be the first. well, my Mr. Met bobble head looks like Mr. Met..
  8. Rusty Staub bobblehead day is actually Saturday not today. I've never thought bobbleheads looked particularly good. Seems odd they'd nail the dirt on Seaver's knee but miss on Rusty. Or are you guys just hard judgers? http://metspolice.com/2012/05/23/even-more-video-of-rusty-staub-in-1975-to-compare-to-your-mets-bobblehead/
  9. Niese 5.0 Parnell 1.0 Francisco 1.0 Nieuwenhuis 1.0 Wright 0.5 Davis 0.5 Duda 0.5 Johnson 0.5

I do hope, though, that it's one of those years when a second-rate Mets team gets all its parts lined up at the end and steals the damn thing. that'd be nice. Duda seems to be a later starter guy, Ike maybe gets straightened out.. Maybe a half season or so of our lefty heavy lineup being forced to face lefties gets them used to it and suddenly they're a slugging powerhouse that's no one can get out come September. As long as we're dreaming, Harvey comes up and dominates in September.
  11. Mets weren't playing particularly well either coming in though, and not sure they broke out of that yet either. But they're 4 games up again (despite what Triangle guy says). maybe they can use beating a bad team while scuffling as a springboard to wake up and beat on some Padres.
  12. I think I heard Josh say at this rate all he has to do is hit .300 the rest of the way.
  13. Frayed Knot wrote: Niese walks Hernandez and now it'll be Parnell to face McCutcheon w/2-out and 2-on well best reliever in arguably the highest leverage situation. so..
  14. Dickey 4.5 Duda 1.5 Nickeas 1.0 Francisco 0.75 Byrdak 0.5 Cedeno 0.5 Nieuwenhuis 0.5 Baxter 0.5
  15. Although it's missing Beltran's 2006.
  16. Edgy DC wrote: Rusty Staub in 1983 had a WAR of 0.4, but a WPA of 0.9. I would contend that the latter is a more accurate assessment of his contributions. I haven't read up on this stat as much as some others, but it seems to me WPA is trying to contextualize WAR. WAR gives you value based on how much things lead to wins. a solo home run is generally worth 1 run and roughly 10 runs is 1 win in WAR, but that solo home run is in the bottom of the ninth of a tie game it certainly seems like it's worth more than .1 WAR and I think that's what WPA is trying to do.
  17. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I don't like Niese bunting for the 2nd out with a guy at 3rd. Yeah, didn't like that. Here's a guy struggling and we can't even trust Niese to put a hard swing on it and hope it finds a hole or they make a mistake? If pitchers are going to solely exist as bunters and an free out in the lineup we might as well just go all-DH. Not asking them to be .300 hitters..but how about half that or it be considered you're hurting the team. (which obviously, you are)
  18. whether or not clutch exists, the actual hits themselves are still clutch in that even if it's not an ability, Piazza hitting a three run blast against the Braves to put the Mets up 10-8 in the 8th is still adding a heck of a lot of win percentage.
  19. granted the first out was a 360 foot one to right-center.

Is he still with us? yeah, not on the 40man though. Would ultimately need to lose a player to do that. (well, not really, there's a spot on the 40 man but I'm not sure they want to fill it either)
  21. when Gary first said "Gorkys Hernandez" I though he was saying "Poor Keith Hernandez" like he had to hang out with the Phillie Phantic or something.
  22. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Ideally, when one guy slumps, somebody else steps up. Who would do that for the Mets? Murphy has pretty much been shadowing Wright (he's hitting .329 in May so far) so he can only step it up so much. Who does that leave? I suppose Duda, Torres, Nieuwenhuis. Not a whole lot to pin our hopes on. well, Ike Davis is the obvious answer. Torres needs to be not-horrible at the same time. Or they could get bigger hits, which is on Duda/Davis and even Murphy a bit. so they get more runs per swing..
  23. Edgy DC wrote: I really think the ticking is closer to midnight. I feel like there's a 50-50 chance he's gone after today's game. Could see that, Padres can pitch (and theoretically so can the Phillies, although they have league average ERA). Unless they just give him some PH against the Phillies bullpen to wake him up, but he'd face better pitchers in AAA.
  24. well if that doesn't inspire him..
