  2. dickey will be in top 10 of Ks after today too

They can put on sale what they want, and nobody has to buy it, but geez, yeah. And people _are_ going to buy it right? I'd rather they have done a commemorative bobblehead or something though. I mean, they're in the business of selling us baseball. We make a, rightfully so, huge deal out of this. It only makes sense for them to continue to sell it to us.

  5. Benjamin Grimm wrote: No harm, though. R.A. strikes out the next two. (He now has 8.) 79 pitches through 6 innings. Extra day's rest for next start, so please give us 8 (or 9).

If it wasn't for Rubin's self-censoring concerns about your pathetically delicate sensibilities, we'd have gotten a prize-winning description of the texture and content of all the Baybarf. Adam was ready to go there. are you sure that the vomiting is from Bay? Rubin claims he's been on antibiotics himself three times this season, so no, maybe not.
  7. well, cleared the pitcher.
  8. panic is premature, Q starts, batting 8th.
  9. still, Sandy has to do something. There's a SS somewhere that's gettable that will be able to hold down the fort.
  10. Vic Sage wrote: say it with me, 62... "Best. Player. Available." Now rinse, and repeat. Indeed. one of the SS can be converted to an outfielder if need be. Or they won't cut some of the no-name scrubs to man down the position, or there's always the international draft/signings. or maybe I'll give them my phone number. I could probably fake it on a Single A corner OF spot right? hey, i bat lefty..
  11. Wilmer Flores is hitting pretty well in St. Lucie, on the 40 man. They switched him to third this season, but still..
  12. What I want to know, is what Dave Hudgens is doing in response. How is he getting guys to use the whole field so that 4 guys can't easily cover all the trajectories?
  13. one from yesterday about his using Game of Thrones music as his intro: http://www.sportmanagementacademy.com/2012/06/06/a-baseball-game-of-thrones-r-a-dickeys-new-alliance/

Of opposition bats spitting out clutch hits like a two-out Repeater? Screw all that. Let's take these fugazi-first-placers out-- it's Dickey Day. The King In the North!
  15. metirish wrote: Two bases on balls and a nice hit the other way into the gap for a double. the hit was real nice, the soft roller to second, not so much. Good to see him walk, but they were wild walks, not quite the 'fight off good pitches, avoid bad ones' walk.

  17. Zvon wrote: talk about a boot. Error all the way Gary. yeah ,geeze, relax with the Harper praise. If you want to talk him up when it's out of town scoreboard stuff, fine, but lay off while we're playing him.
  18. metirish wrote: Apologies for my slip with shit there, rushing out of the lab. Getting kind of tired of hearing how progressive the Rays are...... Expect three pretty heavy days of it next week.
  19. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: This is ridiculous. He got on the roster the same way every 40-man player does, because he was one of the 40 best options at the time. Now he's not. No he wasn't. The season was 'over'. He didn't even play much, wasn't a part of the offseason plan, had virtually no chance to make the team this Spring. And they've been facing a roster crunch that entire time. Fine, he was an insurance policy. For what exactly? Like you said, hundreds of players in the system. They resigned Val Pascucci. They could've signed anyone else for minor league minimum if Satin got claimed in the Rule 5 draft. Insurance guys that far down the depth chart shouldn't be on the 40 man.
  20. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: He's expendable because he's getting replaced by someone else. There's only 40 slots. again, why put him on? He clearly wasn't part of the 2012 plan.
  21. Also, Satin was playing first base almost exclusively (and not hitting for any power) in Buffalo. DFAing one of your 40man 1B options probably says something about the immanency of demoting Ike.
  22. This isn't really about Martinez though. It's about the chance they actually gave Satin. Why is he an expendable 40th man? And if he's not going to stick in the majors, why did you add him to the 40 man roster to begin with? Or is it just the two months of minor league ball have decided them?
  23. Edgy DC wrote: Martinez was always the better whatever. Their opinion was that Satin had more value to them going forward. I disagreed. You apparently did too. But until Martinez starts putting points on the scoreboard at the big league level, it's still an open question. well yeah, I'm just questioning if they really had that opinion given the little rope they gave Satin. Martinez 1 2B, 2RBI to Satin's nothing so far. Might be an insurmountable lead.
  24. Probably. But in a way they removed F-Mart to make/keep room for Satin. Martinez was always the better prospect. I'm just trying to get a handle on the roster management. It seems sloppy.
