  1. Ed also has 600 games on David. Only 2000 defensive innings on him though. Ed has 900 DP turned to Wright's 178. And wow, he turned 100 or more in '65, '66 and '67. I guess there were a lot of guys on?

At least a couple of those bouncers are bound to sneak through the infield; we just have to figure out a way to group them into a couple of runs. Hopefully we can do all that before Maddon figures out to plant all seven of his spare fielders in the infield between 2nd & 3rd. what's the ground rule for the Trop roof? maybe Bay can hit a super-pop up.

So crazy it might, uh, work? I don't see why he's DHing and Muffy is playing second. the groundballs hit to second aren't appreciably easier to handle than the ones hit to short.
  5. Zobrist scratched. Jennings 7, Pena 3, Upton 8, Joyce 9, Rhymes 4, Matsui DH, Molina 2, Johnson 6, Rodriguez 5, Cobb 1

Problem is the relievers still seem to put you on base for free. Yankees are another low-batting average team that strives on making each hit count. Walls are a little more distant down at the Trop though at least.

I said no, the Mets were going to get swept. He looked at me oddly, with that Yankee fan way of being unable to comprehend that you expect your own team to lose. So on Monday morning, instead of being razzed, it was, "wow, you were right." Unless blood is on the line, you gotta take that bet every time. I throw down a lunch bet every Philly series with a my Chase-loving co-workers. Makes for good relations and stand-up fanhood. Mutual respect grows, and self-respect flourishes. I agree. Although I did not make a wager this time. It seems like wagering leads to more intelligent discussion of the merits/foibles of the games/teams than you'd normally get. Maybe I'll wager on the next series.
  8. Wednesday, 6/13: Reliably Astounding vs. LHP David Price (12 GS, 78 2/3 IP, 8-3 record, 2.40 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 70 K/27 BB, 5 HR allowed) Awesome. Will strike out a million Mets. Prolific Twitterer. Tall. Hurt himself in ST "toweling off too vigorously." Awesome injury.

I mean, yeah it's a small sample size and I'd like to see Tejada back as much as anyone. But, for in the short term anyway, finding a stop-gap SS is way down on the list of priorities. Certainly it's behind getting the 'power positions' of 1B & LF to say maybe get a ball out of the infield more than once a week. I'd also slot it in back of finding a reliever with an ERA of less than 6.00 that's actually Q's second 'big' error though It's just bad luck that both came in those spots instead of worthless 2-out dribblers in the second inning. Certainly though it's a race against the clock to see if the bloom comes off Quintanilla's hitting rose and Tejada (or at least Cedeno?) returning. and i'm still pissed Jeter got a hit on that. I swear 1000 of his hits must be infield squibs that he hit so badly they have so much spin and bounce weird or die in the grass for him to beat out.

  11. stupid fake grass. stupid DH. stupid Florida. Stupid helping the Yankees win their division. Stupid hoping the Yankees help us win ours. wow, I'm a curmudgeon today. Is Duda gonna share the DH position? Bay get a day there maybe? Wright for the sake of the 'half day off' thing? At least these are the last three DH games until October.
  12. Edgy DC wrote: Day games in St. Louis can be awful, heat-wise. Back in the artificial turf days, it could get up to 140 degrees --- literally like an oven. I'm sure it's a simple case of dehydration. I wonder sometimes if baseball players/coaches underestimate the importance of simple things like being properly hydrated and getting enough sleep.
  13. Indians 3, Cardinals 1. Chris Perez: hard core. Hate to speculate on how players feel, but I'm going to do it anyway. Perez can pitch, but Bay can't stand in LF because he's sick?
  14. on Bay, I hated the decision to bring him back. He was sick, he'd gotten 12 plate appearances in the minors. And I'm not sure we 'needed' an outfielder. So he had off, played in the minors, got promoted, wasn't in the lineup, missed the next game with the illness.. And he's going to have his swing and timing down? Not trying to exonerate Bay here because he sucks, besides maybe that one ball that he hit 390 feet to one of the only parts of the park that would hold it, but that didn't seem the be the perfect set of conditions to get him contributing. I'm not real comfortable with this defense suddenly seeming out of practice and now having to play 3 games on turf.

We deserved to lose the first one, the second two were a toss up. They certainly didn't execute, and failed, but 'deserved'? no, they weren't outplayed.

Or maybe someone in the pen could try tossing up a scoreless frame every once in a while Or maybe we can try to get on more than 3 base-runners between the 2nd & 9th innings And then maybe 2/3 of those runners we do manage to get on might want to try NOT getting picked off Or maybe we could NOT go 1-2-3 in consecutive innings against the likes of Viva Rapada and Cory 'Haim' Wade Or maybe we could try NOT extending one inning with an error and then starting the very next one with another error And maybe - just maybe mind you - the batters could decide to NOT STRIKE OUT THREE TIMES IN BOTH BASES LOADED AND TWO-ON SITUATIONS - two of those three Ks with less than two outs The Mets hit as many 'hard' balls as the Yankees. they just hit them to the gaps/center instead of down the line. main difference.

Anything that travels that far oughta have a stewardess on it. but , he throws in the high 90's .......straight heat, and real fucking straight a that. Parnell has had a first-batter problem roughly forever. velocity doesn't ramp up. not sure why. It's better when he nibbles and ends up walking the guy.
  18. oh fuck. that pisses me off.

  20. I actually don't really dislike Swisher, he seems like a fun guy. So anti-Yankee. anyway, Josh and Howie got on him a bit at the start. joking about how many times he said 'man' in his Ed Coleman Mets Extra interview and comparing him with a character from ..some movie which sounded like a stoner movie. High Times at something High?
  21. metsguyinmichigan wrote: Hey, just getting here. It looks like the MFYs are wearing the holiday camo caps. What's with that? Is this a holiday I'm not aware of? I see the Mets have their normal caps. they did some sort of military appreciation thingy. something going on pregame. Buck and McCArver made it out like it was all them, all special Yankees caps, etc. (Also didn't notice until the 5th)
  22. loud fly out to center by Alex. He just missed it, but I'm sure it'll spark "He's lost a little batspeed, can't get it out as easily" arguments. and it'll be glorious. Now get Cano out. Gee seemingly tiring a little.
  23. Yesterday when Quintinilla make out in the top of the third I thought "crap, they didn't clear the pitcher"
  24. not a great start, but it's early. I expect the Mets to clobber Kuroda the second time through.
  25. Gwreck wrote: is it? I'd much rather an 8pm game. 5pm I might still be doing weekend things, by 8 it's much more likely I'm home and done with whatever I had planned and can sit and watch the game. You have missed the point (and the thread title). 5:00 on Sunday is a nice time for the game to start if you are attending the game. is anyone here going to the game?
