  2. Quintanilla with the axe. Beat writers/tweeters can't even be bothered to figure out how to spell his name for this either.
  3. And he's spotted with a bat! Twitter goes wild!

Edgy DC wrote: Bay still hasn't been officially activated, far as I can see. no notice in the game day notes either, where they usually say 'expected to be activated for tonight's game' just this: JASON BAY: Went 0-2 with two walks last night for Buffalo (AAA) of the International League vs. Toledo...Bay played the entire game in leftfield...Bay is 3-10 (.300) with two runs scored and four walks in three rehabilitation games with the Bisons...Bay was 0-6 with two walks in two rehabilitation games with St. Lucie (A) of the Florida State League...Bay has been on the Disabled List after suffering a concussion on June 15.

Put up a poll. Help inform my viewing! been all Dr. Who for me lately besides the Mets. Although Batman this weekend..
  6. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I've read a few times that Harvey's pitch selection needs some maturing. Isn't the solution to not have him call his pitches? Let Thole or Warthen do it? Not that I trust Warthen for anything in this dept, but yeah. Maybe hitters actually hitting his pitches in the majors will drive home the need to work on that aspect of his game better than the minors.
  7. clearly Nats fans have taken their cue on how to act from all the Phillies fans that used to invade the place for Nats-Phillies games.

Hairston, even against lefties, is still a lot more of a feast or famine guy, where Bay is more likely to get on making it more likely Hairston's hit drives in runs. Ceetar wrote: He's supposed to be a slugger. Batting in the cleanup spot and driving in David Wright is pretty much exactly what he was signed for. Maybe there is more comfort and familiarity with it than pressure. Which is it --- that Bay should bat before Hairston because he's a better bet to get on, or that he should bat before Hairston because he's a better bet to drive in runs? I think he's a better bet to get on. I also don't think there is any 'omg I have to suddenly carry this team and I can't handle the pressure of cleanup'. It's presumably the role he's most comfortable in. The flip side of that argument to me is that I think a pitcher is much more likely to pitch to Bay and NOT walk him, with Hairston and Wright sandwiching him. It ultimately comes down to if Bay can capitalize on perhaps a couple more hitable pitches.
  9. Edgy DC wrote: Didn't go for Cedeo or Turner over Moiphy. Interesting. I really like Tejada and Murphy at the top of the lineup, but not necessarily against lefties. I'm fine with Hairston in front of Bay. It's the middle of the lineup, so we're not looking of table setters, I'm not convinced he's a better one than Hairston anyhow, and he has enough problems without having to bat cleanup against a first-place team on his first day back. He's supposed to be a slugger. Batting in the cleanup spot and driving in David Wright is pretty much exactly what he was signed for. Maybe there is more comfort and familiarity with it than pressure. Swan Swan H wrote: I'd move Bay ahead of Hairston. Maybe in years past, but this year Hairy's OBP vs. LHP is a few ticks higher than Bay's (.333 to .321). If and when Bay can prove he's not that hitter he deserves to move up. Bay has merely 28 PA against lefties this year. It's hardly meaningful data. Bay as a general rule is the more patient hitter. Then again, hitting inbetween Scott and David, you'd have to be a fool to walk him.
  10. I'd move Bay ahead of Hairston. Hairston, even against lefties, is still a lot more of a feast or famine guy, where Bay is more likely to get on making it more likely Hairston's hit drives in runs.
  11. Edgy DC wrote: I don't know that they see either of those things as assured. Batista's been more or less effective when working as a starter. Hasn't gotten support, so if the plan is to go to Harvey because he's got the better chance for a shutdown start that transends bad support, go crazy, I guess. Kinda desperate, though. I wonder if we're not better off, starting Batista, working Harvey out of the pen, and thereby challenging Harvey take the spot from Batista. I don't think the starter versus reliever ERA is much more than statistical noise honestly. I wouldn't put Harvey in the pen unless it's September, we're fine with starters, and he's reaching an innings limit of sorts. Rather keep him fully stretched out and on turn. Learning doesn't stop at the major league level. The chances of a good Harvey outing versus a good Batista inning have to be pretty close. I think it's in Matt's favor. We'll see what the Mets think. Still, with every start it likely swings more and more in his favor, no matter where those starts are.
  12. TransMonk wrote: I watched most of the Bisons game and was left unconvinced that he can thrive in the MLB. Yes, he's a warm body...but I don't think he can live up to the hype right now. I would tend to agree with giving someone else the Saturday start and bringing him up out west if he's going to be called up at all. Give him a start or two to set his feet before throwing him to the home crowd lions. Better than Miguel Batista without hindering development? I think that's where we're at.
  13. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I feel like this series is one of those where it doesn't really matter who or how good the opponent is. The Mets absolutely have to play better in every aspect of their game or their season's going to be badly wounded. Yup, bonus points being that playing better damages the Nats directly. And hopefully they can do a reversal of fortune somewhat that they're still playing well next week when they play the Nats again.

  15. Harvey no hits through 4. three walks though. Walked first and third in the fourth, but a K, Pick off and K get him out of it unscatched.

Her's is the best...but we will probably end up with delivery tomorrow. Oh...and they'll be beer tomorrow. That shouldn't be as shocking. It's not . But I imagine the cheese gives Wisconsin a leg up on everyone but New York and St Louis.
  17. no audio at work (still up in the air on if I want 'spoilers' or not), I'm not sure who Dio is either. I personally don't have a problem with Nickleback though. I enjoy the terrible lyrical turns of phrases, I find them amusing and therefore entertaining.

If you click on your player, it will give you his game logs for his past 10. I was surprised to see that I'm in 4th place to start the day. I still feel like I'm going to be in sell mode, though. LWFS should be talking to all of us about selling his youth for our stars. well yeah, but then I gotta click 8 times to see all my OF and it's hard to compare that way. I'm willing to take on salary for offense if someone needs to trim.
  19. metsmarathon wrote: i think my team is playing all of their games in citi field. the old citi field. only with higher outfield fences and way more fould territory. i have a great rotation and bullpen, but my god, my offense is abysmal. my team, with its 0.324 OBP and 0.426 SLG can barely out-produce daniel murphy. Actually I've hit the fewest home runs. my OBP is middle of the pack though. I wish it had a 'last 7' feature, because I struggle with subbing in guys and playing the hot hand with my reserves, which is more relevant when you have large 40 man teams.
  20. Well apparently my wife likes them which is why we're going. And TholeMoley on Twitter. And that's all I know, but I don't pay a lot of attention to people's musical tastes. I wasn't even aware they/he/it was on American Idol at one point.
  21. Be there Friday for Daughtry! woo Daughtry! (what do they sing again?) and next Monday for Star Wars Stand Up to Cancer night. free t-shirt, collectible truck (which the wife is already grumbling about taking up space in the apartment) and seats in the Big Apple section, where I've never sat before. hmm, you music people.. Would my enjoyment of a concert be bolstered by downloading/listening to any of these songs before hand, or going in cold?
  22. Frayed Knot wrote: Joel Sherman this morning's NY Post -- The Mets are sending a contingent of executives to Buffalo tomorrow to watch Matt Harveys Triple-A start against a horrible Toledo team. If they like what they see, Harvey could start Saturday at Citi Field against the Dodgers. 'horrible Toledo team'? Is he implying that they can't believe anything they see because Toledo sucks? I suspect it's a little irrelevant. They probably want to talk to people too. and interview of sorts. After all, if it was just about the box score they could watch on tv.

  25. The script, predictable as a Hollywood rom-com, proceeds like this: In May and June, the team wins more games than the media sourpusses thought it would, and the fellas in the clubhouse tell us how well they are getting along, so much better than in other years. We should have learned by now that these story lines are too fast and too easy. This one is nice. He's basically saying he was lazy and sloppy with the storylines early, while starting to justify his "The Mets aren't good enough" story line that he had planned all along.
