  1. Did Mr. Dickey sign off on this? http://lookatmeshirts.com/lookatme/ra-dickey-shirt-knuckle-deep.html Probably not. That's why I bought this one

I think his complaints are a little too old school but he's right that this thing has become the one issue that Selig just cannot get right. And the more he tinkers with it the worse it gets. http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2012/07/10/sports/baseball/ap-bbo-schmidt-all-star-quandary.html It can't be fixed. Interleague took all of the luster off of the All Star game, these guys face each other all year now, even moreso next year when Houston jumps. Sorry, Bud, it's a dud. the luster was coming off anyway. Interleague? Why, did the Mets see Mike Trout or Mark Trumbo this year? last year? Did Rangers fans get to see Harper or Dickey?
  3. I saw Metspolice posted the pictures that the @mets account tweeted, I'm merely the spreader of info.
  4. Satin is the guy, he's not on the 40 anymore. Edgin takes the 40th spot.
  5. Frayed Knot wrote: So are you saying that you just were David Wright prior to becoming Piazza? I believe so, and Gwreck is now if you look at the members list sorted by rank or posts.
  6. This might be a non-rankings quirk, but it looks like #6 Piazza is ahead of #5 David Wright. It appears like Wright should be 7, although I could see where writing 5 next to his name is an easy mistake to make. the post above though says he jumped from 7 to 5. that doesn't seem to have taken place in the profiles..or is that not happening at all?
  7. Edgy DC wrote: Using a captaincy as a marketing angle does not necessarily mean authorizing official Captain merchandise. in a sense they've already started that marketing angle with the coverage of Wright this season. officially licensed merchandise gets mostly shared anyway, which is maybe why the Yankees never put forth much effort in that regard, since they already bitch about it.
  8. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: Another consideration for those about to rock Havana (like me), Mexico City, San Juan, or anywhere else Caribbean or semi-Caribbean: you're laying down a franchise who'll spend about 2/3 of their season looking over their shoulder at the Atlantic hurricane season. Aruba? They're always clear of the hurricanes right? I like the floating stadium idea though. or... underground! you walk through an underground 'aquarium' to get into the place. The field is actually BELOW sea level. The LF wall is thick solid glass and you can take the underwater tour and watch an inning with SCUBA gear from under water. Of course, it'd probably have to be named Google Field to have the money to build it, but it's worth it. This might be a better idea in New Orleans than in the middle of the ocean though. Plus drainage would be a bitch when it rains.
  9. Edgy DC wrote: I don't know. Maybe. But I see broadcast rights being sold throughout the Caribbean, big-time resort sponsors coming on board to reach the tourist market, and the team becoming a home team of sorts to the Spanish-speaking Caribbean diaspora in the US, who will subscribe to cable and internet packages to follow their team. The Marlins would HATE that. would resort sponsors come on board? being that the broadcasts will be to the people already down there, would you reach the tourist market? I could seem them preferring to spend money for a spot on SNY to get New Yorkers to come down to see the Mets on the road more so.
  10. Edgy DC wrote: If you get a San Juan team folks can bet behind, even at $3 a ticket, that's success. And as the NBA has proven, you make a sport popular enough with people struggling to make ends meet, the ones with money will come out too --- to prove they're down with the people and, by gobbling up expensive seats, to show they're better. Be difficult to field even a 50-100 million dollar payroll at $3 a seat though initially.
  11. Chad Ochoseis wrote: San Juan. I'm doubling down on the Caribbean. Easy travel, natural fan base, economies that could use a boost outside the tourist season. That stadium would probably be worth of a Carlos Beltran rotunda.
  12. I was extrapolating further, not not reading. What makes the ball go that fast and what would it's effect be?
  13. btw, Buck was talking about Dickey riding to the game with his family and mentioned that Eli (might not be Eli) was waving with a Knuckleball grip:
  14. Edgy DC wrote: but why not just take the top 4 HR guys in the league and go with it? Sometimes, with Selig, the last good idea he hears it the best. The last bad idea is the worst. Captain picking players: it has an emotional element of playground ball and Ryder Cup drama. Good idea! Let's go with it. Wait a minute, somebody might be disappointed, and blame a captain for the selection? Bad idea! Let's bag it!! Let's think things through. Well, he's a talking head mostly during this time, I doubt he's even processing what comes out of his mouth sometimes.
  15. Benjamin Grimm wrote: The article in the Daily News about Gee today had a sidebox showing Gee's stats for 2012. It was titled, "WHO GETS THE ROCK?" I have no idea what that means. The News wants you to propose to it.
  16. bmfc1 wrote: metirish wrote: metsguyinmichigan wrote: Yeah! Terry makes an appearance on the field! that was pretty cool by LaRussa .... Damn it, it was cool. Terry can be just as magnanimous next year. He let one of the other guys go out for the pitching change after that batter too.
  17. soupcan wrote: I picked Portland and Charlotte because I guess those two are probably the most realistic locations. I would LOVE to see Havana and Mexico City though... Benjamin Grimm wrote: I would want a Portland team to be called the "Beavers" but I don't think MLB has enough guts to let that happen. Yup. Just like the Rockies should have been the Denver Bears and the D'Bags should have been the Phoenix Rattlers. the Portland team would probably be called the Portland Rain or the Portland Mist or some other ridiculous, dumbass name. I kinda like the Portland Mist, although it sounds more like an NBA name. I associate Portland with amazing local cuisine and excellent beer and local hops. (I put Mt. Hood hops in my Strawberry NieuwenWeiss) What about the others? Vegas Rollers? Vegas Neons? (Would love to see the Neons play the Rays) (I'm tired of animals personally) How about Phoenix Phoenix?
  18. MFS62 wrote: It would seem that the force necessary to propel the ball at that speed would be greater than what is released in the resultant explosion. I'd have to see the math. Later That's true, someone email Randall and have him do the bio-mechanical write up on what a pitcher's arm would have to look like to do that. It'd probably tear right off his body right?
  19. metsmarathon wrote: i voted havana and mexico city, but would like to nominate for consideration, europe. I don't like the travel involved in any of those. Maybe Mexico City. add it to Vegas, Houston, Arlington and.. San Diego? as AL SouthWest division?
  20. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: Portland's a great sports town, and pleasantly Austin-y. I'll go with the weirdos y Habana. Does Portland have the population? The Portland Hop-Growers! Hoppers? Portland would have to be NL so we can force a Mariners interleague rivalry.
  21. Well, if they keep the same format, Beltran is campaigning to be the NL captain. We get to watch Ike (or Duda) blast home runs every game. It'd be cool if they were in it, sure, but why not just take the top 4 HR guys in the league and go with it? (besides that half of them would back out because some media guys like to propagate the 'ruin your swing' myth) Hell, who really cares who wins? The second and third rounds drag on and you've already seen those guys peppering the stands and fountains. Give us five and five and one round each, highest total wins.
  22. Vegas and Vancouver. I think more West Coast Baseball is a good idea. Portland was a close third.
  23. wait, Ronny Cedeno? did we know this? (And did he steal Alex Avila's wife?)
  24. metsguyinmichigan wrote: Harper is not having a good night. They need to stop with the Jeter love. How about talking to players who actually did something good in the game so far? "Jeter, so how about Chipper Jones' pregame speech. Did you have anything to say to the AL players?" "uuhh..what? lead? no, I was busy adding my number to your cellphone covertly. Chipper, good for him right?"
  25. btw I roughly clocked myself at 18 while making the quiz. I got all the position players except Torres, missed most of the relievers and a couldn't remember which number Gee and Niese were.
