Still have that prayer though. before the all-star break was a minor skid where they lost more than they won. easy to bounce back from. with a couple of series wins. Barring an Oakland like run here, this is ..dismal. and the nachos I had were crap. Met Steve Rogers though. Probably the highlight of the night. wait, check that, highlight was probably watching the model model the Mets gear that company designed.
  2. Plus, the stolen base distracted fans from booing bay
  3. Saw Jeff Wilpon today. He spent some time with Collins. Matt Harvey has three #70 bats in the dugout...but no helmet

I was thinking "heart stress" and/or "inchoate, life-shortening depression." yeah but..wouldn't those apply even if I just watched at home?

I think either would be tradable, unless you're including coaches and then no.

Everytime Ichiro made a routine catch in right field the section would go wild. Not gonna happen here. no? The RF crowd goes crazy for Nick Swisher to wave at them. and then for Curtis Granderson to wave to them..

I went to a Sangria festival on Saturday in the Hudson Valley and there was also a high school reunion (that we pissed off) and a wedding. Yes, but were all three being thrown by the same people? yeah, pretty much. we were on a private winery. All sports teams do that. there is always a giveaway unrelated to the 'irish night' dances before the game while there is a charity group being honored. Star Wars is just more involved.
  13. Edgy DC wrote: And man, how do we end up with a Star Wars night featuring special guest... Snooki? And then give away a truck unrelated to either? That's a freefall promotional evening, is what it is. That stuff's pretty comment, the stacking. hell it's popular elsewhere. I went to a Sangria festival on Saturday in the Hudson Valley and there was also a high school reunion (that we pissed off) and a wedding.

What bothered me as much as anything last night was that it was the second game in this stretch we could have won in regulation (if memory serves) if the pitcher could only get a bunt down. Not up to Terry to execute for them, of course, but somebody's got to answer for the hopelessly casual attention to the finer points this team has shown under his watch. I think the pitchers have, in general, done a better job with most of the fundamentals this year. I imagine we can look up the numbers somewhere, and it's something Terry did in fact mention he was going to work on them with this Spring. Last night you're referring to bot-6 when Thole led off with a single. I doubt that's make or break there and Tejada and Valdespin (who erased two lead-off singles from Tejada) made out after that. What was more damning was the very first batter of the game, when Young failed to snag the liner, then failed to get off the mound quick enough to get it after that. I know he's tall and whatnot, but a little better fielding his position perhaps makes that start a little different.
  15. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Why do they do Star Wars night anyway? When is it going to be F-Troop night? Star Wars teams up with Stand up to Cancer. They've been doing it at a bunch of other parks/places too. My ticket was also a $5 donation. I got a t-shirt with Vader on it that says "Don't underestimate the power of SU2C". Costume contest for kids before hand, winner gets a trip to Orlando.

TransMonk wrote: still maintain that Sandy and ownership were prepared for much worse than what showed up on the field this season and, if anything, they have to be pleasantly surprised. while pleasantly surprised, I think it makes their job harder. If say Daniel Murphy proved he couldn't cut it at second even a little, it makes it very clear what to do with him. There seem to be a lot of guys that have been wading in that murky "Part of the future, or need replacing" gray area.
  17. Toss out some 'thoughts from the game'. Star Wars night was a let down compared to last year. The Big Apple Seats are kinda neat. I was on the end seat next to the apple in the 7th row. Jason Bay's loud fly out was about 20 feet directly in front of me. During the second Jason Bay at-bat, they very clearly raised the volume of his walk-up music as the fans started booing. I bought some baby Mets stuff for a baby shower in two weeks. A bib, a onesie, and a bear. (Mets fan and Angels fan) the kid will be living in Philly. The nice usher let us sit (we moved to stand in fair territory, by the right field pole) when most people left after the 9th. I heard too many "When do the Giants kick off?" comments.

Is there a history of fans loving and cherishing local guys with ERA's of 8 or above? That's pretty much what you're predicting. no, there's a media history of loving and promoting these guys. Look at Isringhausen, who was not particularly good last year. Obviously simply mediocre and 8 ERA bad is completely different too. But how many times do they tell us how nice Jason Bay is, or how cool Francoeur was? Oh, dear, don't you start. How much unearned time did the media's passion for Jason Isringhausen buy him? I was just citing examples, he said media not fans loving/cherishing local guys. Considering the second half was meaningless last year, he didn't get any unearned time. And we're crediting him with teaching Parnell that curve, so that's a net win anyway. And neither Omar or Sandy was stupid enough to give Frenchy the 3/15 contract that was rumored in the media for a bit near the end of 2010. But who knows? Sandy's mentioned clubhouse chemistry before, despite saying he doesn't think too much could be made of it. Often clubhouse chemistry/the media likes you means the same thing. Justin Turner hasn't exactly done anything worthwhile this year. Willie Harris wasn't very good last year and they rode it out all year. (He was a really nice guy in case you haven't heard)

  22. Edgy DC wrote: Well, then, if he's gold, he's gold. I'm just guessing at the marketplace. yeah, but he's just not very much of it. (Unless you're charging per inch anyway)

  24. barring Wright throwing Collins under the bus, it's not changing. Of course, if they continue to free fall to completely erase the entire first half and play .300 baseball the rest of the way, anything's possible, but that's a long way away right now. I'd like to see Warthen gone though. Hitting coaches are good fall guys too, and the offense has been disappointing, though I do like Hudgens and I don't know that he's to blame for Duda's struggles and it's not really his fault Tejada and Thole aren't power hitters.
  25. Edgy DC wrote: Well, sure he hasn't allowed a run since 6/23, but that's six innings, with a vacation and some drained knees in between. I imagine some teams may want to still look at him. but 9 appearances. including two in a row, 3 of 4, and 4 of 6.
