Wouldn't .tv and the station have the same access to advertisements and what not? I have no idea what the reach of the Network is though, there still cable companies w/o it?
  2. The thing is, a lot of times there are things to look for, we just don't know what they are. The team isn't usually looking at Collin Cowgill's line to see if he's going to make the team, it's things like "Did he lay off a slider in the dirt?" or "Is he buying into the general approach at the plate of picking your pitch that Hudgens is preaching?"
  3. mainly I look for mobility. I don't care if a guy makes errors or flubs balls, but you like to see them at least able to move. same with pitchers, especially this early, as long as they're actively throwing in some regard.. (take a look at a clip of Ryan Howard running this spring for example) After that. staying healthy I guess. That's pretty much it.
  4. TransMonk wrote: I thought that Florida was an MRI-free zone? my guess, and just a random one at that, is that it's not deemed to be serious or complicated, and therefore the Mets don't think it's important to make sure their own doctors take care of it first hand. If it comes back less than 100% conclusive though, you can be sure he'll be headed to NY for a second opinion.
  5. Ashie62 wrote: Did Johan let the Mets know the only thing he rehabbed off season was his mind? I'd put my money on Johan out-pitching half the league with just his mind anyway. He wasn't rehabbing anyway, no injury to recover from behind the simple rest and recovery for a sore back/ankle.
  6. vtmet wrote: Ashie62 wrote: No WBC for Johan..so why rush him..Santana is adamant he feels fine and just needs to build him arm up. He's no kid and has had surgery.. He will be ok how did Santana even think that he might be ready for the WBC? Was his "interest" just a publicity gimmick so that he'd look like he really "wanted" to play, but figured that the Mets were going to say no anyhow to get him off the hook? my guess is he just assumed he was 'healed' and his arm would respond like it always used to. He'd already have made two starts and be ready to go for the limited first round.
  7. vtmet wrote: And all that proves is that in most save or hold opportunities you can stick just about anyone in there and get away with it pretty much why I never understand wasting a lot of money on a veteran closer that isn't elite (which pretty much is anyone not named Mariano Rivera)...Somebody like Frank Frank, or Looper, or Wagner, or Lidge, blows just as many saves as a young guy that throws gas and costs relatively little...and tell me that KRod didn't give you more panic attacks than Parnell does... Well most years you can find someone better than Rivera, if it's just one year, and certainly now. It's not so much about 'veteran closer' as it is about giving money to a reliever that you have any confidence can simply be good and won't have a 2012 Ramon Ramirez year.
  8. Mike Kerwick @mikekerwick wrote: In the middle of Santana trying to shoo away reporters, Frank Francisco entered the fray. "I can talk." Gotta love Big Frank. This pretty much says it all for beat writer analysis.
  9. Edgy MD wrote: Damn shame if true --- and it sure seems to be, with the agent more or less copping on his behalf. Always seemed to be pretty attentive to his condition to me. Well, the rest was always supposed to be important, but I wonder if Johan thought that with the long Spring Training his arm would respond quicker, faster, perhaps like it did when he was younger before all this. It surprised me too that he wouldn't have started throwing in January like normal though, I wonder what his reasoning was for not.
  10. TransMonk wrote: Unless he can put up triple digit RBIs to go with the 30 HRs, it will be too many in my book. That has everything to do with Wright, Tejada, and Valdespin/Cowgill/Murphy/etc and very little to do with Ike.
  11. TransMonk wrote: I'll take the under for Ike's BA with everyone's predictions save CF's 30+ HRs with too many Ks. As Alderson noted the other day, it's probably not too many Ks with 30+ HR if he's also walking occasionally.
  12. I guess I should be consistent with my predictions, and I did Ike previously so: .271/.350/.533 41hr, tying the franchise record for HR. It's probably a tad high on the AVG/SLG portion though.
  13. TheOldMole wrote: Are we worried about Zach's oblique? No. (and it's Zack not Zach, because he's a pitcher and striKes a lot of guys out. )
  14. bmfc1 wrote: How many people stay after a game for concerts? not a lot. and it's not like Citi Field was designed acoustically.
  15. bmfc1 wrote: G-Fafif wrote: Bob Carpenter really does suck. Thank you. understatement. "The Mets have vacated New Orleans for Vegas"
  16. just for reference, the Indians lost fans last year at more than 2x the rate of the Mets, ended at 600k less, and had the second worst attendance in the majors, ahead of (by less than 4k) the Rays. Although I do think some 'dollar dog days' would be a decent idea at Citi. Who runs Progressive Field's concessions? Not Aramark I assume.
  17. is there such a thing? seems like it'd be a great source to get some of those Kiners Korners episodes that were lost.
  18. If you're interested in some of what Alderson had to say to bloggers: http://www.amazinavenue.com/2013/2/28/4038400/mets-sandy-alderson-transcript-interview-blogs
  19. how embarrassing for the Mets to be associated with something like this. Just a big red mark. can't get out of their own way. PR disaster.
  20. I expect a good first half, maybe not as good second half as perhaps teams catch up to him a little. But he had amazin' success last year in the minors after reconfiguring his delivery, so maybe he's a lesser-Dickey story. 7.1 K/9 3 BB/9 over 55.1 IP. He didn't give up many home runs last year, I don't know if that's just luck or a factor of his delivery, but if it's repeatable that should bode well for the Mets bullpen a bit. Parnell isn't prone to the long ball either, and keeping them in the park in the late innings could be very very helpful.
  21. .250/.315/.400 over 85 games.
  22. metirish wrote: I can see him being out of shape That people can see it is I think is the main basis for such reports.
  23. I think he'll have a good year and I don't buy the head case thing, but I haven't read up on this latest..sitting out thing? I'd be surprised at an out of shape thing considering he's been there for weeks. a Spring Training of hard work with his swing and approach should pay off in my mind. .270/.365/.475 28 HR I do agree that he's going to be the scapegoat.
  24. Edgy MD wrote: I don't get it. I mean, I get that Amway wold want to re-present themselves as a legit act by opening a storefront or two. But why not in a strip mall in King of Prussia, PA? I don't know much about how businesses choose to operate, but King of Prussia, PA isn't Queens, NY. I don't even really know what Amway does, and I'm not sure how a store facing eminently destroyed junkyards (or people going to McFaddens) is prime location, but I guess they want a foothold or something.
  25. People actually care which businesses the Mets do business with? Could probably dig up 'dirt' on half, if not more, of the companies on any given team's list of sponsors. As long as the money is green..
