IGT 4/1/2013: SDP @ NYM -- 52nd Season's the Charm
Ceetar replied to G-Fafif's topic in Archived Game Threads
I don't know if 'big time' is right, but he was there. I haven't noticed him much in recent years. I know he made his way to the The7Line group at one point too. Islanders were well represented Our bullpen Wright or Wrong (The cheesiness is at high levels this year) Steak Sandwich? -
Seems to be a theme this week. Crap, this picture's a little fuzzy. gotta zoom to be able to read, but it's not nice. Squeezes in a knock of Shea Stadium too.

I lurk more than I post nowadays, but it was great seeing some people from here today--MetFairy, D-Dad, KC, Greg, and Steve Rogers. Beautiful weather, at least in the beginning, great pitching, and an offensive explosion. You can't ask for much more than that! Ceetar too. Wait, which one were you? I got there at about 11:30 and stayed till 12. I'm not sure if I met you? Me with the beer cup and Dickey shirt. -
Edgy MD wrote: They're gradually turning from a sports magazine that also does swimwear to a swimwear magazine that also does sports. (And that Brian Cole story gives me little hope that I'm wrong.) The sad part is that one of the things that they're out there trying to get a handle on is the fantasy sports culture --- publishing like three or four fantasy guides a year for football alone. This ignorance is unforgivable to the "sabermetric community" and presumably useless to the fantasizers. I pretty much equate them with ESPN in terms of quality. i.e. my thoughts on this were "Yawn, another haphazardly thrown together sports article? No surprise there." Of course, you haven't seen Time Out New York's. (I took photos, I can share tomorrow)

well, that was fun. btw, I could've sworn Cowgill's grand slam was a triple. I thought it hit the bottom of the wall and was really confused especially since both the LF and Collin ran like it was in play. -
Fman99 wrote: I keep having to fight the idea in my head that both the Astros and indeed city of Houston itself were forced relocate to a new locale in order to join the AL West. This came up in conversation with my brothers today. And heres my question (now you have to figure this could never happen cuz of the Skanks but): If the Mets were forced to switch to the A.L., could you, would you still remain a Met fan? Ugh, and watch games with the DH every day? It's such a mindless product. The leagues are only going to further merge and you're going to be watching NL DH before you know it anyway.

It almost seems like they want Valdespin as their 'pinch hitter' doesn't it? I'm not sure I'd start him over Duda, Nieuwenhuis or Baxter as a lefty..but does that mean he's the 'second' pinch hitter after they pull Duda or Nieuwenhuis (Or Baxter, despite his lack of evidence of splits) for Byrd or Cowgill? I don't see Jordany getting SS time either except in a Tejada hurts himself in the 6th situation and Vegas is too far away to get Quintanilla or Hicks or Bixler here for the 7th.
-
What do you think, 4:1 odds they sign Santana?
-
Frayed Knot wrote: I think they're counting on Turner not being out too long and will simply fake it until he gets there or bring up Quintanilla if the Redhead's going to take longer than expected. Larger point being that you NEED a backup SS no matter how your top guy is hitting - and at the moment our guy ain't hitting. You can get away without one for a short span at best. I'd be shocked if Valdespin sees even an inning at SS. They'll stick Dabid there first. They may be thinking that Tejada (who has as many hits on the season as Mike Trout) will just play every game for at least a week and if he gets hurt or Turner isn't ready to be activated they'll reach for someone else.
-
Frayed Knot wrote: L Omar Quintanilla will head to Triple-A Las Vegas as the shortstop, meaning the Mets will carry no bona fide backup to Ruben Tejada. -- Hmmmm, no backup for the guy hitting .050 in Spring, that won't last for long. Not sure if it'll be Qunitanilla or not but someone will need to fill that role before long The remaining spots to be filled by two of the three from Turner, Nieuwenhuis & Lutz It's probably.. *gulp* Valdespin. Unless they think Turner is going to be ready but it doesn't seem like it (and sure, give the wounded ankle guy the backup SS role?) I imagine this means Kirk makes the team and it's Lutz the odd man out for Turner despite probably being a better fit.

Turner likely to be DLd, and Quintanilla will go to Vegas.

Farmer Ted wrote: I actually enjoy standing in the Pepsi Porch area, leaning against the rail or grabbing a hi-top. No biggie unless it's very windy up there. $45, however, should come with a complimentary reach around. or a summer afternoon because you melt. I like to stand above the RF scoreboard myself, just next to the entrance to the porch or the Excelsior level. I call it the Shea subway view.

This is much more impressive than when Dustin Pedroia tweeted a picture of his red sock.

metsmarathon wrote: if he injured himself last season, then the evidence points to the cubs game, and the johnson collision. maybe the 134 pitches contributed some lingering faitgue that contributed to the injury on that date, or maybe it didn't. it sure didn;'t seem to have affected him terribly much the prior three starts. He also indicated that he couldn't put weight on his ankle and was throwing more with his arms/upper body. i.e. bad mechanics.

You didn't hear it from me. The guy's given him enough injections after all..

Edgy MD wrote: It seems strange that teams should have to make that choice. Two painful questions: Any notion that Terry's nightmare is true? That Johan re-injured himself because Terry let him go the distance for the no-hitter. (If Terry's culpable, than I and many other fans certainly are.) The timeline certainly supports that scenario, statistically. Any notion that the culprit is Johan's chip-on-his-surgically-reparied-shoulder premature trip to the mound earlier in spring, to show the beat writers and Mets he's more a man than they were whispering? Maybe he was already in trouble but that was the straw that broke the camel's shoulder socket, so to speak. I don't think so. (Did he get an MRI when they shut him down last year? I thought I remember hearing "No damage in his shoulder" but maybe they didn't check.) Can you tear a capsule, a repaired one even, doing normal things like say reaching for the flour on the top shelf at home? I don't think it was his random mound visit this Spring either. He was having trouble building arm strength even before that. It seems like more of a "discomfort/can't get loose" than a "my shoulder hurts!" Although when he originally tore it he wasn't unable to pitch either and was reporting the pain in his 'chest area' if I recall. If it's even torn that is. Both doctors confirmed the 'probable' status according to Alderson. I don't know what the difference is.

Zack with a K, because he's a pitcher. Martino quick with the race card on this one.

McHugh. I don't know why people (Mets included from the rumors) seem to be skipping the 'on the 40 man' guy. And I don't want Young. rather Hefner for sure.

Whatever happened to poor rookies? Cripes. Everyone I talked to threw in the engagement shoot as a freebie or like $100-200 when you bought the wedding package. Good way to get comfortable and familiar with the photographer. I'm not going to sully this thread by putting a picture of me in it though.

metirish wrote: Listening to Burkhardt on SNY and he made some pointed comments on Wheeler after Carlin set him up by mentioning Alserson saying Wheeler would not be coming up.. to paraphrase KB " we all know he is ready, there is not a scout or person I talk to that says differently, but for various reasons like money, eligibility and impact on free agency the Mets will not bring him up, he'll probably be up by the end of May". I don't think the _Mets_ are 100% convinced Wheeler is ready. He got almost no AAA time, and they want to stick to HIS plan regardless of the situation of the other guys. It's funny though, how crystal clear the Mets have been with Wheeler not starting with the Mets. he didn't get a September call up. He didn't get invited to major league camp. They've always said he's not going to start the season with them. And yet it's still brought up like people expect the Mets to go back on a plan.

I'd do it all again.

Edgy MD wrote: Where's the $70 million figure coming from? I know I remember hearing something last year about the projected losses for 2012, I think it was $70 million.. I'll try to google for it later see if I can dig it up if no one else happens to remember. I've always been skeptical of these numbers and I always wonder what it does or doesn't include. My guesses were always that that big loss number was strictly Mets revenue against Mets payroll, not taking into account things like SNY and naming rights and maybe not even MLB licensing payouts, but I wish it was spelled out somewhere.
